Yes, it finally happened, one of the two fabled/dreaded/useless (cross out the unnecessary) motion controllers prepared by console manufacturers for this season. First reviews are in both at IGN and at Gametrailers, and as such, I've decided to create a discussion topic and provide a summary of the reviews I've seen for the launch titles.

So, here we go:

First of all, we have Sports Champions, the PS3 Wii Sports clone. GameTrailers is still silent on that one, so all we have is IGN's review. IGN's stupid, stupid review.

Sports Champions got a 7.5, a score that's pretty good, for it matches the score they gave to the original Wii Sports. But, as with Wii Sports, half of those 2.5 that were decked from the game were decked for its presentation. The video review supplement says the reviewer found it lacking, because he found the environments too lifeless and the other athletes in the game too stereotypical. I think that's idiocy, but that's just me.

After that, the guy went on about the sports themselves. Archery was crowned the best sport (also, the least original, hello, Wii Sports Resort), Bocce was genuinely well-reviewed although berated for being "always the same" (I question the reviewers expectations), Disc Golf was also branded with a positive review and so was Gladiators, but Volleyball and Table Tennis were both criticized - the first because the reviewer doesn't know how volleyball sims work, and second - because the reviewer unapologetically sucks at it.

My opinion: It looks hella fun and the sports selection is fantastic, and pretty original. Oh, and the graphics are great goodness.

Second title - Kung Fu Rider.
Both sites described it as a miserable attempt, giving it respectively 4.5 and 5.5. I have trouble explaining the game, but basically it is Stuntman: Ignition without cars but with shopping carts and other stuff.
It looks really original, but controls like a nightmare.

My opinion: Wasted potential much?

Third one - Tumble. It's a stacker. IGN compared it to Boom Blox, bashed the hell out of the controls and awarded it a 3.something.
GameTrailers gave it 8.3
So, I honestly don't know.

So, with that said, discussion value. Did you expect such polarizing reception for the Move's launch titles and do any of these games sound interesting to you?

P.S. Also, IGN has a hardware review of the Move posted.. 8.5, praised for really good technology, but berated for its lack of worthy launch titles. Colour me intrigued, this looks much better than that Microsoft thing-y.

well I'm not gonna buy it but deep down I want it to fail so we can get on to some better innovations... though Kung Fu rider did look sort of funny and original...

I'm liking Move a lot, but it needs more games than just the update to Heavy Rain, which is currently the only Move-enabled title I'm interested in.

I'm not buying a new controller just to replay a game a bit differently, even if it is awesome :)

Sorry, had to.
I actually hate that update with all of my being, because it put on hold the Heavy Rain Chronicles, something actually interesting.

Echochrome 2 needs a review! That's the best looking game for Move so far :D

IMO Motion controls can suck it, period.

If I had to choose one, I'd definitely go for the Move. Sure it's a wiimote clone with little dildo balls on the tip, but instant 1=1 movement is a plus to me.
If they make an Ass Creed Game with a bow and arrow, then I might actually consider maybe perhaps buying it.

I'm with you there. It's probably that and the deBlob sequel that will move me(hahaha) to get it.

I'm actually tempted to get this when the Move edition of Heavy Rain comes out, I felt guilty about not picking it up originally anyway. There's also the Time Crisis pack coming out which I'd quite like and I wouldn't mind trying out Killzone 3 using it.
So I'd say I'm positively skeptical about it so far, I'm waiting for some bigger and better games.

I also agree, as echochrome was one of the most original puzzle titles i've ever played. Well, bar Portal.
Also, you are going to hell for that pun.

They're making a deBlob sequal? *Quickly checks* Thank goodness its multi-platform otherwise I would have had to by a Move as I love that game.

Echochrome is on par with Portal in terms of originality. In terms of other things though, portal is way out there.

Well i'm glad that Sports Champions seems like it will be good seeing as how it comes with the Move. Other than it I don't think I will be getting another game for it until 2011 because thats when all the best games for it seem to be coming out. Which makes me wonder if I should just wait to buy it until 2011 when it might have had a price drop.

Definitely getting it, and word to the wise, do your own research, IGN's about the worst site in the world to try and get decent information from. Hell, most review sites are.
Truer words have rarely been spoken.

I'm kinda intrigued now. I think the games looked good. Something like tumbler is much better to play with real wooden blocks, makes for a great time if you're playing with small kids. It improves their dexterity (which this might do aswell) and promotes creativity. I'll give it a rent.

There is no Move edition. Its a patch you have to download on PSn for free to enable the use of the Move. I also would try it out with Killzone 3 if they made the cross hair in the middle of the screen and have the character's viewpoint move where you point. From what I've seen the pointer flies all over the place and you have to move the pointer to the edge of the screen to turn the character around. If they give you the ability to customize the control scheme then it would be awesome for FPS games.
