Yes, it finally happened, one of the two fabled/dreaded/useless (cross out the unnecessary) motion controllers prepared by console manufacturers for this season. First reviews are in both at IGN and at Gametrailers, and as such, I've decided to create a discussion topic and provide a summary of the reviews I've seen for the launch titles.
So, here we go:
First of all, we have Sports Champions, the PS3 Wii Sports clone. GameTrailers is still silent on that one, so all we have is IGN's review. IGN's stupid, stupid review.
Sports Champions got a 7.5, a score that's pretty good, for it matches the score they gave to the original Wii Sports. But, as with Wii Sports, half of those 2.5 that were decked from the game were decked for its presentation. The video review supplement says the reviewer found it lacking, because he found the environments too lifeless and the other athletes in the game too stereotypical. I think that's idiocy, but that's just me.
After that, the guy went on about the sports themselves. Archery was crowned the best sport (also, the least original, hello, Wii Sports Resort), Bocce was genuinely well-reviewed although berated for being "always the same" (I question the reviewers expectations), Disc Golf was also branded with a positive review and so was Gladiators, but Volleyball and Table Tennis were both criticized - the first because the reviewer doesn't know how volleyball sims work, and second - because the reviewer unapologetically sucks at it.
My opinion: It looks hella fun and the sports selection is fantastic, and pretty original. Oh, and the graphics are great goodness.
Second title - Kung Fu Rider.
Both sites described it as a miserable attempt, giving it respectively 4.5 and 5.5. I have trouble explaining the game, but basically it is Stuntman: Ignition without cars but with shopping carts and other stuff.
It looks really original, but controls like a nightmare.
My opinion: Wasted potential much?
Third one - Tumble. It's a stacker. IGN compared it to Boom Blox, bashed the hell out of the controls and awarded it a 3.something.
GameTrailers gave it 8.3
So, I honestly don't know.
So, with that said, discussion value. Did you expect such polarizing reception for the Move's launch titles and do any of these games sound interesting to you?
P.S. Also, IGN has a hardware review of the Move posted.. 8.5, praised for really good technology, but berated for its lack of worthy launch titles. Colour me intrigued, this looks much better than that Microsoft thing-y.
