The first few reviews for Battlefield have just come out, gaining 94/100 from Metacritic.

Thoughts?

EDIT: When I checked 10 minutes ago there were two reviews. Seems like people have been busy....

So? My thought is simple, BattleField 3 only gains such a high score because of hype, read anything on the Faults of Game Reviewing to understand further.

It's funny how AusGamer starts by saying 'There's certainly room for improvement...' after having given it a score of 98. The reviews for games receiving scores below and 85 must be scathing.

Other than that I didn't read too much. Of course this is going to be one of those games praised by absolutely everybody for absolutely everything. I won't know until I play myself though if I like it.

I didn't think it was possible for a hugely hyped up game by a major developer to score less than 90. Isn't that usually how it goes? I don't even pay attention to reviews at this point. Of course, you've played one war shooter, you've played them all.

A couple of the reactions so far are exactly what I was complaining about in one of the Arkham City threads - that game received good reviews, and everyone took it as confirmation of their expectations, but when a (non-Valve) shooter receives good reviews, everyone dismisses the reviews...

I'm sure it'll be a great multiplayer shooter. I enjoyed the beta (from the 1 day I played of it on my 360).

I still think it's a bummer that they can get away with shitty single player as long as the multiplayer rocks.

Yes I can be petty like that. I was expecting huge praise for this hype train anyway.
Because Campaign has always been less important than Multiplayer in a Battlefield game? The games didn't even had a singleplayer mode until Bad Company 1, and that was a spin-off from the main games. You should be grateful there IS a singleplayer mode.

It's Battlefield 3, not badvoiceactingshitstory 3.

Only sheep take heed of what other people have to say. In this case what reviewers have to say. If you have doubts about a game and need to see what other people say about it just to make up your mind, well you're just weak minded.

Honestly though should really make up your own mind based entirely on your own feelings.

I'm getting BF3 because I've been able to keep up with it for quite awhile now. I don't have COD because I stopped at WaW. I'm also getting Ghost Recon Future Soldier because Ghost Recon is just flat out badass.
Or perhaps you want a second opinion to find out what other people think? Reviews are not a be-all-end-all, and if you treat them as such you are a fool.

And you know the campaign sucks.. how, exactly? It's not really fair to go into it assuming it will suck.

Besides, you're not forced to play the singleplayer. The older battlefield-games didn't even have a singleplayer. Does that mean they shouldn't be able to get a review-score?

I could have told you 5 years ago what the score on this game will be, tho it is a bit lower then expected, maybe a few EA checks got lost in the mail.

Oh and let's me just call the MW3 score here aswell, it will be 95+

You don't get it, you're still listening to other people.

So what, you want me to become a hermit and whenever anyone suggests a game to me I viciously attack them for spreading their propaganda around? That's what I am getting from your posts:
If you listen to other people, you are a weak willed pathetic sheep.

You still fail to understand and I'm tired of trying to explain it.

You're being sarcastic/trolling? Cause otherwise I got nothing.

Or maybe you want to form an opinion based on the knowledge of others. Not everyone is as knowledgeable as the next man on a specific subject.

If it wasn't for others I would've never found out that The Witcher 2 was so amazing, and yet, I don't feel so weak minded, au contraire, it was an enriching experience.

The scores are higher than what it deserves but certainly what I expected.

Deducting only 2-10 points from the score because of a bad single player campaign just goes to show how hype and fanboyism works (and the reviews are all essentially pointing out the campaign is "meh").

And yes, I've heard the bf3 fanboy response of "BUT BATTLEFIELD IS PRIMARILY A MULTIPLAYER GAME SO YOU SHOULD JUST IGNORE ALL THE FAULTS IN THE SINGLEPLAYER" but if DICE didn't want their game to be judged including the single player they wouldn't have included a goddamn single player. But they did, and they should be judged on it properly, which it seems they haven't been.
