The crazy amount of racism that people from there are subjected to; particularly by the seemingly erudite portion of the population that regularly logs on to various forums to have one too many discussions about issues they think are relevant.

My first thought was that I'd love to visit the place once, but I can say that about many places in the world. I'd have to learn a bit of the language though, just to make things easier.

As someone who is studying in Japan now, my realistic expectations (my unrealistic expectations were....unrealistic). were only wrong on one regard: Japan is not as convenient as it's made out to be.
