eeyup, you read right, tossing this thread out there to field some ideas i had, this morning in fact, on how to stop this rather pathetic trend of people dropping on threads not aimed at them at all and starting flame wars

ok, lets talk about 'discussion value' of the pony threads first, i'll get to the ideas in a moment. there is, to be honest, less 'discussion value' and more 'post value'. EI: its worth throw a post at, maybe replying to quotes but nothing deeper, and to be fair, this actually apply to the bulk of threads on this site. second, there all repeats of the same things, again, this applys to most 'hot topic' threads, from 'you avatar' and 'last game' threads and so on.

but none of those catch even half as much hell for existing. why? easy, same thing a lot of you focused on in the title, 'pony'. the show is, admittedly extremely polarizing, weather or not your inclined to give the show a fair shake depends solely on how open minded you are to the show being good despite being about 'candy colored ponies', weather or not you like the show is completely moot here.

i have, as stated above, come up with a few ideas for handling this, after all we(bronys) have as much right to have our threads as much as the person losing their mind over halo/skyrim/CoD/BF ect,
and if some one that actually knows how feasible this would be wants to jump in that'd be great

1) Private Threads: this would work in a manner similar to you tube's private videos. the threads would not be visible in the that sections thread listing, and would only be accessible via a link the OP would have to provide. this would keep the thread away from every one but the people it was intended for.

2) In-Group Threads: this would more or less add another tab to groups, and you would have to be part of said group to view the thread and create a thread.

" well you have your own group chat, why bother with any of this?"
there's 1169 of us in our group, YOU try fallowing chat with that many people(our 'chat pages' are at 16,047) and I'm sure groups with smaller groups with several hundred members have a similar issues, assuming you pay attention to the chat at all. also this befits every one, I'm sure a few of you could find uses for these tools if implemented.

we're not going anywhere, we like the site, but the flaming needs to stop, and to 'just not make threads' is not only not a bad idea, its absurd and offensive to me as both a person and a fan of anything.

This set of suggestions begs the question: If one only wants to make a post accessible to the Brony community, isn't there an MLP fan site where a post would be more likely to reach the right eyes? Why post on the Escapist?

Private Threads are the worst idea I've ever heard of on this website because how would you moderate who'd be able to post in it?

In group threads are the best idea I've heard of on this website. Pitch the idea here. [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/groups/view/Ideas-for-The-Escapist]

Although, you don't really need to do any of this. Just ignore the MLP threads trolls make and just remember, people's words on the internet can't actually hurt you.

So you are proposing the Escapist extend the functions of User Groups to allow you to make threads within them.

While a good idea, I can't help but think that would fraction off the forum users quite a bit, leading to private zones for discussion, and less use of the main forums.

I mostly agree with what you are saying, and I'll also point out that you mean private threads, not privet threads. Privet is a kind of shrub.

We don't care if you like MLP.

We don't care whether or not you go anywhere else.

People are gonna complain, there's nothing you can do to stop it. It's like a force of nature.
What annoys me personally is that the people(some, not all)who like MLP make it out to be such a big deal. Not the show itself, just liking the show.

Seriously, stop deliberately bringing attention to MLP, the fact that you like it, the fact that some people don't, the fact people flame people for liking it and so on and then you'll have less people getting up in arms about it.

It's a cartoon with ponies. Big fucking deal.

EDIT: I'm aware that this could be seen as kind of antagonistic but I'm just trying to put it as bluntly as possible. Hell the only reason I haven't watched it already is that it's on at 7am where I live.

this times one thousand. Seriously why do people keep discussing MLP on a gaming web site? I don't go to MLP fansites and start threads about Skyrim coming out because its not a gaming site.

Because TROLLS WILL TROLL. No matter what precautions you put in place, this in an undeniable fact.

Well, see, these forums have a little subsection called Off Topic Discussion, where we can talk about whatever we like. It is not unusual to talk about non-gaming things on this site.

Sass said it right. I wouldn't mind threads for the groups (the chat format feels so crammed, hence why I'm much more active out here) but private threads doesn't seem like the way to go at all. If you want to go on about MLP, why not go onto a site dedicated to it? Or at least the group? It's been made abundantly clear that even the Brony community here is sick and tired of seeing pony threads pop up just because ponies are the most popular thing to talk about fight about.

So if you make a pony thread here, expect the war to flare up again. If you don't want to deal with that, I guess you'll want to take it elsewhere because it is kind of inevitable here -.-

Get serious, you keep bringing up MLP and people will flame it because they don't like it. If COD,Halo,Bethesda,or any other game is at risk of being flamed, then so are you. Your not special at all in this regard.

And your question brings up the question of why should any post about any series of anything be made on the Escapist when their are fan sites dedicated to it, and frankly that's just not going to happen.

O.T:In group threads would be the better option, except not everyone's going to follow that idea. In fact, that one guy who keeps posting things is actually trying to appeal to the pony-haters as well as the bronies, and I kinda doubt that he would use the in group threads for that.Plus very little of the other groups would be so forced into only posting threads about their fandom on their group's in group thread section, which would piss off at least a few people, me included.

The discussion value for threads about pony threads (threadception) is repetitive.
