Flawless Bands

Closest to flawless for me would probably be Johnny Cash or Pat Benatar, as I've loved every song I've heard from them. But no one is flawless. Even my all time favorite band Iron Maiden had the Blaze Bayley era.

No. If a band only produces song that you like, then they have no variation, sing the same thing over and over and thus are crap. If they have variation and do different things then I can guarantee you that at least one song will be different from what you like and thus they aren't flawless. Luckily it doesn't really matter since you have the ability to choose things and listen to things you like as opposed to those you don't.

My 'flawless band' is HIM.

I just. It's so good. All of it. Absolutely, 100% all of their songs are awesome.

Spoiler: Especially this.

There are, of course, songs I like less than others (typically slower ones, as I'm not keen to slow songs by default). But none of them do I dislike.

Something about the way everything sounds, and just the general emotions in HIM's music resonates with me. I also heavily enjoy the more ethereal and metaphoric lyrics (e.g. from the above song, "I unlit the light to embrace the dark, to be near but not to turn into you"). It kind of pulls me out of a song when the lyrics are more grounded in reality.

Ah HIM, I like everything before Dark Light. Dark Light and everything afterwards was complete crap in my opinion.

OT: My flawless band would be A Lot Like Birds, they only have two albums, but there is not one bad song on either of them.

OT: See, Godspeed You! Black Emperor are my favourite band of all time but their music isn't really divided into songs... I love all their work apart from their occasional drone tracks.

Are you not a fan of Drone music or do you just not think GY!BE did them well? I did read your review on Sputnikmusic a while back and I was not sure what your opinion on the genre was, I happen to love Drone music and thought that GY!BE were able to translate their sound well into a genre that is disliked by the majority of casual listeners. Just curious.

Well no, I don't really listen to drone. Not much anyway. I just didn't find much in these tracks to really bite into although they're nice to have in the background. To me they just felt like bits present to fill in the spaces between the main tracks and I'd rather they'd fitted them in with the main bodies of music. The drone-y bit at the end of BBF3 (can you call it drone?) is pretty amazing though and there's the odd bit of drone, in one form or another, that I like here and there. E.g. The Angelic Process, Nadja. But then again, those bands include other styles too.

They're ok, I just didn't really get into them like I did with the main pieces of music. I'm thinking of Yanqui and Allelujah here, when the drones were separate to the main songs; I actually I think they had really good drone elements on Lift Your Skinny Fists, where they let those moments build out of the music. The ending of Static, for example.

I completely agree, I feel as though their new album would of been better if they incorporated the two Drone tracks actually into the two main songs instead of having them separate otherwise they feel like filler tracks IMO. Also, The Angelic Process fucking slay, I have been listening to a mix of them, Type O Negative, Alcest, Boris and Jesu today while finishing up my coursework.

Dark Light is definitely where their sound sort of shifts. Though I don't think it's, like, as bad as Panic! at the Disco's Pretty. Or Muse's The 2nd Law [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PRGsN2piqJg] compared to... anything else they've done previously.

It really depends on the band. If they want to repetitive, they will be. If they won't, they won't be repetitive. I see [user]Twilight_guy[/user]'s point, but it's not true half the time.

Tool and Gojira definitely count. I don't recall any songs my Opeth or Animals As Leaders that I didn't like. MUSE would count too if this were still 2008. That's all I can think of.

Deftones for me Yeah few songs am not keen on but i can still listen to them. I think its chinos voice its like, well perfect. And the other things he has done. team sleep, crosses.

Noticed few said Tool yeah love them somtimes i just carnt be arsed with them same with A Perfect Circle.

It seemed like they weren't even trying anymore. A lot of the songs sounded very similar with hardly any variation. I wish they would've built upon their heavier side as shown in "Love Metal" which is by far their best album.

I wouldn't call any band "Flawless" as that would infer that perfection is in fact possible, and considering that the flaws are what make life interesting, I don't see perfection itself to be kindof paradoxical, complete perfection(everything always works out for people in a positive way and nobody gets sick or even has to try anymore) is boring, therefor not perfect, so true perfection allows for flaws to exist, because there is struggle and challenge again, which adds interest to the world again, but due to flaws and struggle existing it is no longer perfect.

Anyhow, taking my understanding into account and not just leaving it there, contributing and such y'know, POINT FORM HO!
