Do you think flying aircraft carriers would be a good idea if the technology to create them existed

Seriously how awesome is that.

Would it be a good idea? I don't know. Another world war might become even closer to a reality if these existed. They are cool, but probably not the best thing to put our resources into.

They would be an easy, expensive target, and much too vulnerable. They would also be fucking awesome.

Think of it in terms of power rangers. You have zords that come out of a base except that base is also a zord that can move around and fight.

I think it would mean that conflict with other nations would more than likely happen. That's not a good thing in my mind.

they look like big fat targets flying around, to be honest
Not if we get that energy shield tech up and running.

Impractical. Why would you ever need it? To get the airfield closer to the target? Were already well within range with normal carriers/airfields/refueling planes.

Not to mention it would require a bitching amount of resources to keep it running for more than a few minutes (assuming its running on traditional fossil fuels).

Bonuses < Cost

No more so than having more normal aircraft carriers would.

...right. I forgot about that.

It still holds true, though. You would need a LOT of energy to keep that thing in the air.

I dunno...last I checked, most landlocked countries wouldn't care too much about an aircraft carrier in the ocean...lots of response time for the defender, lots of resources required for the attacker.

With this...well, some countries might be threatened. Airspace is typically guarded more than oceanspace...

It would be very impractical. Fuel costs alone would make it easier to just have your fighters refuel in the air on the way to the fight.

Unless we can find a more cost-effective way of keeping things in the air, I can see no tactical advantage that an airborne carrier would provide that current US naval carriers, and world-wide airbases don't already provide cheaper.

Yeah... when I saw that trailer for the Iron Man 2 video game I just cried bullshit at the end.

How about an immediate fire base/airpad that can double as an escape vehicle in an emergency.

I'm actually working on an adaption of a table top game named Clockwork: The Skymasters.

I've already included multiple varients of these into the game, as well as several other air ships. The Cyborg Pirate Nomad Nazis use them the most I believe. And yes, that is a faction...

I have never seen a more awesome name for a faction.

Now imagine them having one super city far far away. The city is absolutely massive, with large stone buildings everywhere. It's also extensively fortified, and has artillery and anti air guns surrounding and covering it. Not to mention several massive airships flying overhead. All of this to protect their capital building. In the centre of all of this is a massive stone dome, where their leader is housed. 90% of the building is a linked network of computers, all helping power and operate Hitler's revived brain, stolen from the Russians.

This city is currently known as 'Little Berlin'.

"For the Fatherboard!"

And this is only one faction out of four others made so far. You then have New Chicago, Londontown, and Fort New New Old Texas. In case you haven't realized, I encapsulated a lot of my own crazy into this game.
