I've not played Fallout 1+2, but weren't they set over in the west side (California?) of the US? It seem highly unlikely that this is the same Dogmeat. More like it's a dog called Dogmeat as another one of Bethesda's nods to the older games.RinrIck said:My big question is. Has anyone been able to find out some of the down low on Dogmeat. If he is the original then he would be 30+ years old. Was he infected by the FEV virus or what?
What do you think?
One thing that made me wince the worst was that there was only one type of dog skin for every mutt in FO3...((Except vicious dog of course))searanox said:Canonically, the dog isn't the same one from the first two games, but he is a long-lost descendant.
There have been plenty of stories that people move across the US and their pets somehow get to them. So on a scale of 1-10 how impossible do you think that that is the ORG dogmeat?Amnestic said:I've not played Fallout 1+2, but weren't they set over in the west side (California?) of the US? But to give it the exact same name and look? A tribute is a tribute but when you go that far out of the way to make it exact...A tribute starts to look like the real thing...Richard Groovy Pants said:You're missing the point, it's not supposed to be the original Dogmeat, I don't have any sources but Bethesda already said more than once that this one is just a tribute to Dogmeat.RinrIck said:My big question is. O please do!Scorched_Cascade said:There was a blog from the devs I'll go dig up saying that dogmeat in Fallout 3 was just a nod to the previous games and in terms of cannon was "his descendant or something".
and as to what happened to the original Dogmeat?Dogmeat is a dog that could be found in Junktown, a reference to the dog Mad Max has in the film Road Warrior.....wearing a black leather jacket, which would remind him of his previous owner - i.e. a reference to Mad Max - who also had such a jacket
In the Vault Dwellers memoirs it is disclosed that Dogmeat died in the military base after running into a forcefield.
As far as I can tell, it's the same model and to some degree the same texture that the dogs in Oblivion use. Fallout 3 shares some other assets with Oblivion, too, like animations.RinrIck said:One thing that made me wince the worst was that there was only one type of dog skin for every mutt in FO3...((Except vicious dog of course))
It's a ten on your scale. The dog has been confirmed to be a different one. Period.RinrIck said:There have been plenty of stories that people move across the US and their pets somehow get to them. So on a scale of 1-10 how impossible do you think that that is the ORG dogmeat?
Thanks I never really knew what happened to the mutt who saved my life hundred times over...and ate more then half my stimpacks...Scorched_Cascade said:and as to what happened to the original Dogmeat?

I ran into him in the scrapyard on my way to minefield, but I didn't realise he was a friendly at the time and shot him with my hunting rifle. He ran off and I haven't seen him since.orifice said:How do you find him?
Scrapyard south of Minefield. When he turned up to the scrapyard he was biting the face off two raiders, solo.orifice said:How do you find him?
Also orifice use this: http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_l2B5tvTbqM8/SRSIDvIgJ_I/AAAAAAAADmU/q3JVfGpsas8/s1600-h/fallout+3+map.bmp hes in the north east part of Scrapyard battling 5 raiders the first time you go there.orifice said:How do you find him?
It's like a post-apocalyptic 'Homeward Bound'RinrIck said:There have been plenty of stories that people move across the US and their pets somehow get to them. So on a scale of 1-10 how impossible do you think that that is the ORG dogmeat?
I hear you. I only take him to places where I'm certain I won't encounter tough enemies (like Deathclaws, Mister Gutsy, Centry Robots, Behemoths and places where there are too much Mirlurkes) other than that, he can handle Raiders, Mercs, Super Mutants and members of the Waistland Fauna (vicious dogs, ants, radoscorpions, etc.) pretty effectively, just make sure you give him some stimpacks after every encounter cause he's pretty good at finding weapons and ammo.spikenog said:Dogmeat...the lovable little pooch that stayed in Megaton (in my apartment) for the ENTIRE game.
Stupid dog.
