Me and the missus were talking about how we went through different phases of gaming as kids; but first and foremost our fondest and first encounters with gaming. For me it was definitely my nan's NES that brought me into gaming.

I remember being only 4-5 and coming home from school and asking my nan to fetch the NES from on top of the wardrobe and set it up for me so I could play Super Mario Bros. 3. Then if she was doing a night shift and it was just my granddad (the least tech savvy person in the world, can't even work the pause, rewing and record features on his Sky HD box) I had to wait for my dad to come home and he'd set it up for me (at the time we lived with my grandparents).

Right up until I was 7 or 8 I had limited access to the NES and later the SNES as my nan bought one to continue her Mario antics. I vividly remember my dad bringing home the NES port of Metal Gear and before he could even play it I was tearing it up when he was at work. It wasn't long after this when my nan bought her first PC and I watched her playing Doom and my dad had Duke Nukem 3D. It wasn't long until I'd learned how to play them in DOS and my young mind my being twisted.

So Escapists, what were your first gaming memories as well as your fondest?

I haven't touched Ace Combat 5 in over 6 years, yet there is a memory I have of it that drew me back so well I bought it online last week.

Remembering the boss battle of the Scinfaxi- a giant submarine aircraft carrier. This is what it looks like in a drydock.

My first actual gaming experience was a platformer called Alex Kidd that came preinstalled on the Sega Master System.

My fondest memories come mostly from the sucession of Ace Combat games though. New and old.

And Okami, i dont go a week without mentioning Okami to something living.

First... playing Joe & Mac Caveman Ninja with my brother on his Spectrum.

Fondest... perhaps, entering Iapetus 16-01 for the first time (self-proclaimed Spanish lobby for PSO DC).

My best gaming memories are back when I got my first PS1 aged around 11 or 12ish, Me, My Step Dad and my little step brother would spend hours and hours playing Gran Tourismo, We all shared the same save file but each had our own cars that the others weren't allowed to use.

My earliest memories with gaming are playing a game called Flimbo's Quest on the Commadore C64 (spelling) I can barely remember the game but I can still hum the music, There was another game on the same cartridge that was set in a circus, If anyone can remember the name of that game I will give them 1million internetz.

Oh god, the second my nan got her SNES she protected her save file with her life which was naturally on file 1. to prove her dominance in the house. Anyone played on her save and somehow she'd know and we'd get a beating, especially if it was Super Mario World or Yoshi's Island.

My first memories are playing Sonic 1 and 2 on the Genesis when I was really little (I've been playing since about 18 months old).

My fondest memories are either playing Super Smash Bros. Melee with all my neighbors or playing Tales of Symphonia with my girlfriend.

Haha! That's epic, I'm a bit like that now (minus the beatings). The number of times my girlfriend has logged onto my 360 profile (even though she has her own) and saved over one of my save files is ridiculous.

Fondest happened not that long ago, I was home for the first time in a few years and it was raining so my sister and I just gamed all day, switching out on single player, cooping or just beating each other up and my mum kept bringing us tea and snacks it was awesome!

Earliest, playing duck hunt and super mario with my dad (ie watching him beat bowser because I could never get that far)

Snap!

almost to the letter. Except he wasnt my cousin... I just thought he was till i was about 8-9. He was just my neighbour. Thats the earliest

Now fondest... gotta say playing soulcalibur on the dreamcast with a whole bunch of my dads friends when i was about 11. They talked to me like i was their age but they didnt think i could play on their level. My dad set them up, and i didnt even know. It was fun
