Football and The Escapist. Am I the only one who is starting to get irritated by this combination?

Did you know FIFA 15 is now out?

Look EA want to market their new game. The Escapist is totally reliant on ad revenue to meet its running costs without having to make us all pay subscription fees, it?s an elegant business arrangement but this is starting to get beyond stupid.

For the last two weeks every time I have tried to watch a video regardless of producer I have to sit through adverts for a game I have no intent of buying, based on a sport I have no interest in, all the while wondering if the time between the start of the advert and that wonderful moment when I can start watching the videos I want to watch is getting longer and longer.

Am I the only one who has had enough of the adverts for this bloody game?

Look Escapist I understand why you need to show adverts. I am guessing that EA don't want you to advertise any games produced by their competitors, but please either start advertising some other games from EA, or give me the option to skip five seconds into the advert like YouTube does.

The same one each time? Odd. Probably working as intended, but you can ask the Tech Team to be sure:
http://www.escapistmagazine.com/groups/view/Tech-Team

This thread alone won't do much, though.

EDIT: You can take a screenshot with Lightshot. This thread has commands for embedding images:

Praise the pub club.

I can imagine that would get annoying after a while.

The Escapist is going to have the highest bidder (best case scenario) or they are not even in control of their ads (which I believe is the actual case as most advertising online is run by other companies and The Escapist gets paid for them to put in what they want within reason).

I know members of this forum likes to pretend that sport games don't exist but FIFA 15 is going to be the biggest release of the year for many people. This is a gaming website so it is not unrealistic for ad companies to put 2 + 2 together and have FIFA advertise here.

The site needs money to run. You can either give them the money directly if you want (Pubclub [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/registration/subscribe]) or you can sit back and watch the ads to pay for your use.

This is a gaming website. Which means that the people on here play games. (most of us, at least - plenty of writers, artists and people just wanting to talk, though)

FIFA 15 is a videogame, whether or not you have any interest in buying it.

Surely you can just do the math here? It's not hard; other people have interest in a thing that you don't, and the properties of reality don't bend to yours.

OK to the people telling me that this is a gaming website and that FIFA 15 is a game wheather or not I'm intersted in it or not...I KNOW THAT!

I did point out in my original post that I fully understand why The Escapist is advertising a game I have no interest in. Its basic advertising. Its not the fact that The Escapist is promoting this paticular game that bugging me, its the fact that this gaming website seems to be interested informing the game buying public that between the 26th September (UK release) and now only one game of any note to have come out in that time has been FIFA 15 and not;

Bayonetta 2
Alien Isolation
Borderland the Prequal
Middle Earth Shadow of Mordor
Smash Bros 3DS
Civilization: Beyond Earth

Look I know why The Escapist is advertising this game, I know that the world does not revolve around me and that I have no say in what games get promoted and what games don't on this site or any website, unless I decide to start my own.

What I wanted to know was am I the only one who is getting board seeing the same game advertised again and again, to which the answer seems to be yes.

You know, I can't remember the last five ads I've got on videos. I don't think this sort of advertising is particularly effective, because it at best has a neutral impact on me, but also because it's "The thing I need to watch to get to the main video" and thus is an obstacle. An obstacle I tend to forget the minute I hear Jim or Yahtzee's theme music.

Do you know how many ads for things I won't ever buy I've had to sit through? I don't either, because they don't matter. Either pay the Pub Club fee and get rid of the ads or learn to ignore ads in general. In 34 years of life, and the amount of TV I watched (suffering through 90's commercials especially) has built up an immunity to any form of advertising.

Ssh don't let them know or they'll make ads more intrusive!

It should be that if X user has watched this ad this many times, change ads. The 100th time will not convince me anymore than the 10th or the 50th. It gets boring and fails to advertise the game, especially when they have fuck all to advertise the game. I've seen like 2 FIFA 15 ads on escapist over and over, shame you can't sell football games to anyone but the long-standing fans. If you are gonna be that way just do what GTA 5 did: simply show the name, logo and release date on the side of a bus so only people who already want it will purchase it.

Or... you know... do that... other thing.

OT:
I for one greatly enjoy the Sponsored Advertisements that appear on this great site. They are completely unobtrusive, but they always manage to inform me about products that I realize I desperately need. Without these Sponsored Advertisements I would never have purchased so many fabulous and worthwhile products from that excellent and consumer friendly company, Electronic Arts?, among others.
As I am a truly good person who does not do such horrifically villainous things such as using a blocker or other Hitler equivalent activities, I have had the unmatched opportunity to view, and then purchase each and every one of the excellent products that appear in these Sponsored Advertisements and I can say from experience that they really are as excellent as the Sponsored Advertisements would have you believe and that every user should purchase these products as soon as possible.

You could just switch to another window while the ad loads, it's not like you have to actually watch it for the site to get it's revenue.

What does Fifa have to do with football? That's soccer, mate.

And I haven't been following football as my team is currently 2-6. Man, they really gotta do something about the offensive line.

Well, I mean, cable tried, and they no longer get any of my money.

I'd just as soon join Pub Club and toss the Escapist money that way than deal with increasingly more absurd tactics to get me to buy stuff I don't care about.

Odd, I haven't seen any Fifa 15 videos. I've been hit with nothing but Alien: Isolation ads instead.

Perhaps the selection of ads depends on location. Do you live in Europe or South America? I know football (or "soccer" as we Yanks call it) is more popular there than in the States.

It's an ad. Most ads are annoying and for things I'm not interested in. The ads I get aren't even video games most the time. I get shit like sealord (so it must be region dependant cause that's a NZ ad). At least it stopped looping between ads for other things and the ads for the escapist itself instead of playing the video. :/
