I've seen quite a few kids recently running straight into roads without looking, blows my mind.

"I wonder what's on this road... cars? naaah, can't be".

Honestly, if kindergarten is over and you still don't know that, you suck as a human being.
I can recall my childhood and those kids running through the streets and even playing football in the middle of it and they were some dumb kids.
Kids aren't that dumb for the most part and if they are, they will be dumb even as adults and their kids will be just as dumb.

I think it's just natural selection doing it's job.
I honestly don't want these kids to grow up and reproduce.
Sorry for having such extreme views but... actually, I'm not sorry, I stand by my words.
And dumb people are worthless and blah de blah de blah.

Spoken like a true sociopath who prides themselves on being analytical yet utterly fails at the "human interaction" side of life. YOU are the reason that animosity exists towards intellectuals.

If I had to choose between saving my sister, who is mentally retarded and has major mental hangups yet is also sweet and makes everyone she meets happy, or you, who thinks that people like her should all die out, I know who I'm picking.

Unintentional pun?

OT: Ah, I had road safety drummed into me for years. My only close call was actually almost a year ago. I was in the middle of crossing a road when this silver car being driven by a squinting old lady belted round a light corner. About twenty feet away, but closing in fast as I turned to the source of the noise, she only began to slow in the last five feet or so, culminating with me jumping back with my hands instinctively outstretched as she vaguely turned and kept right on going.

It's a bit of a stereotype, but old drivers can be fucking lethal.

On a partially related note, I despise drunk drivers. One of my childhood dogs was killed by a drunk lorry driver who actually ended up on the pavement. My dad only survived because he vaulted the wall just in time. But he had no way and no time to get our labrador up.

Funny, I'm fairly sure he stated that he doesn't want people that would run into traffic as though automobiles aren't multi-tonne ramming machines of death to reproduce, not that all the mentally handicapped should die. I've known of several mentally handicapped people that would never cross the street unless they knew it was safe. Funny how you went and implied that you believe all mentally handicapped people would happily do so though.

Generalizing and making assumptions dude, you shouldn't do it, it makes you look bad.

Kids, like adults, are different. Meanwhile my son is utterly hopeless and just doesn't pay attention to anything, despite loads of close calls. It's not for any lack of 'drumming it in to him' on my part, it's simply that his mind wanders.

But what can we do?
If you live in the country you tell him next time he has a close call you're going to throw him into a ditch. Then you do it the next time there's a close call. He'll bawl his eyes out, he'll be cold and muddy and more than a little shocked, but unharmed and he'll remember it. It worked for my born-addicted niece, who has actual physical problems with her brain, and it'll work on your just-plain-dumb son.

YOU DID THE SAME THING. I only mentioned my handicapped sister as an example of a "dumb person". Did I imply he was speaking of all mentally handicapped people? NOPE.

He said he was fine with dumb people being mowed down, because he's worried that the genes will pass on. And to that, I raise both middle fingers and a series of curses.

Don't throw rocks. You might be in a glass house.

I actually did not make any generalizations, I simply called attention to yours (he doesn't want unintelligent people to reproduce, therefore he is a sociopath, because only sociopaths wouldn't want unintelligent people to reproduce, right?) and I wasn't making assumptions, I was calling attention to yours, seeing as how you chose to "assume" that when he says he doesn't want dumb kids to grow up and reproduce, that he wants them (you included the mentally handicapped in this declaration yourself, I might add, never did he mention them) to be run down in the streets. He said no such thing, he simply stated that he doesn't want them to reproduce, for all we know he added the "grow up and" bit because most children would have to grow up before they would begin to reproduce.

Not wanting someone to reproduce does not equate to wanting them dead, nor does it equate to a malicious lack of empathy.

And yes, actually, you did. You actually stated it outright.

Not exactly having to do with traffic safety, but I was sitting in a car enjoying some food from a fast-food restaurant near a busy intersection, and suddenly an old car (Looking like a car from the 70's) was going over 100 mph and crashed straight into the traffic lights. Ends up it was an old man who had a heart attack, but I sure as hell jumped when it happened. Luckily no one else got hurt in the fiasco. Also, the traffic light, while not functional, was still upright in the ground. Car was completely destroyed though.

I pointed out that his views are very compatible with sociopathic viewpoints, yes.

And fine then, Master Pedantic. How the hell WAS I supposed to take "I think it's just natural selection doing its job"?

Remember, "natural selection is doing its job" means that the "inferior" subjects are dying before they can reproduce. "Inferior" is a hell of a loaded word.

Edit: And when I said "all people like her", I'm referring to the fact that she's gone wandering into the street before. I thought it was obvious, just as you did.

It would actually be best that we drop the subject here, were I to say anything further on this matter (least of all voice my own opinion) you'd more then likely lose your temper, and shouting obscenities at me wouldn't be worth getting in trouble with the mods, I'm sure you'll agree.

Advising someone to cease jumping to conclusions and making generalizations is hateful rubbish? Well, I must be a veritable Hitler 2.0 then... And actually, HardkorSB was on-topic, seeing as how he was simply giving his opinion on the matter, even if it wasn't one people may have agreed with. Just sayin' is all.

Forgot to give you my sympathies for what you were so unfortunate to have witnessed after allowing myself to get wrapped up in a spat that wasn't my own, I apologize for that at the very least and hope you're doing better regardless.

Hope it goes without saying that my sympathies extend to the child's family and the person behind the wheel of the vehicle that struck said child as well.

EDIT:
Also wanted to point out that I ended the altercation between lackthenack and myself before it got ugly, so I would appreciate it if you would refrain from treating me as though I were attempting to drag or otherwise egg it on when I had literally done the opposite the day prior, thanks.

Y'know, I agree with this sentiment exactly.

If I see anymore of this subject from the people OP has quoted, I'm going to take action.
