... how easy is it to switch controllers?

Because I went to a friends house yesterday and we played on his PS3, and I found it very hard to use. I own an Xbox 360, and the main problem was the location of the left thumbstick. Whenever it came to moving I would always dart my thumb upwards, only to meet the D-Pad. But, it's not just that - the whole controller was lighter and felt different, and overall it was just incredibly tricky for me to feel fully confortable with it.

This isn't intended to be a 'XBOX/PS3 CONTROLLER SUCKSORES!' thread, I was just wondering - how easy is it really to switch controllers?

When you've lived as long as some of us you will find that their are many different controllers out there, yet they all seem to have similar features.

I had no problem with the transition between controllers.
maybe switching to the gamecube or something like that, though.

you get used to ut, there are some that are more intuitive than others (xbox, n64, and nes get my vote) but the only one you WILL have a problem with is the game cube ctrlr... which should ALL be destroyed

And... that is supposed to mean?

Maybe if you sort out there/their/they're I'll listen to you attempting to be condescending.

It was never much of a challenge for me. No matter which console you're playing (be it an Xbox, playstation, or Nintendo thing- they should try common names) the differences between controllers is usually small and finding what's where has never been an issue for me.

That is, until the Wii came along.

However I should note that Sony products are harder to play FPSs on. It seems like the Xbox controllers just operate "smoother" then Playstation. PS2/3 thumbsticks feel a little sticky in my opinion.

I have no problem switching between the two because I have always had a sony console in my house and I have friends who had a Xbox and more recently a 360. They complain when they have to use the PS3 controller and ask how I can stand using it which is answered rapidly with a "because I'm awesome"

Hold up a gamecube controller and one hand and a xbox controller in the other, then list of the differences for me.

I assume you will type with your feet while observing properly.

Douchebaggery aside, I think you should check your punctuation before correcting someone else when it comes to the English language. Also, I don't see what's so difficult about the differences between controllers.

GOOD DAY, SIR!

Transition to the 360 controller isn't that hard. It's small and ergonomic enough that shifting the analog stick is pretty easy to get used to. I just can't get used to the trigger positions because it feels way too low for me, and I can't get used to the ABYX? thing.

well it hurts to hold, the buttons are located awkwardly, and the c stick is in a terrible placement for its usual use from what game i have played, it could eaisially be replaced with a d pad

i know my argument seems about as flimsy as chinese toys but it just bugs me, just dosent work

I've been using PlayStation controllers since their first little grey console, and I finally got to use the 360 controller recently when a friend and I got together for some switching between Gears of War 2 and Resistance: Fall of Man. The similarities between the controllers make it easy enough to work everything out, even if the buttons feel different. The only thing that gets me is the X button: since both controllers have them, but in different places, I always end up going for where it would be on the PS3.

And of course then a gun would jam or I'd screw up and get shot, but that's beside the point.

I can transition between them better. The 360 controller is bigger and it fits my hands, but the PS3 controller is rather puny.

The PS3 controllers DO feel a bit awkward when I'm playing a shooter. For third person games like RE5 it feels so awkward between the two controls once you're accustomed to one.

I have no problem changing between controllers.

However, there is a tendency for me to automatically pick the Xbox controller up after I've been away for a while, no matter which system I'm actually playing on at the time.

I've got a personal 360 and a shared PS3 that sits in our front room. I don't find it too hard to switch but in general my breakdown would be:

360:
pro - Ergonomic layout
pro - tight analogue sticks
pro - rim on analogue stick helps grip
pro - basic button colours (I'm a dreamcast veteran)
con - shit d-pad
con - no 3rd party connections
nb - bumper and shoulder buttons are very different feels

PS3:
pro - solid d-pad
pro - sensitive analogue sticks
pro - simple usb connector
con - left analogue stick location not ideal for FPS

I massively prefer the look, feel and weight of the 360 controller. When it comes to games I spend most of my time on FPSs and would take the 360 any day.

I found it disturbing to play the PS3 controller. I am used to it now - but I somehow prefer the xbox now! The L2 and R2 triggers are so light to touch and the curve is disturbing! also the analogue is far too light.

Feedback people feedback! When I push a button I don't want to have to second guss if I pushed it.
