For the older gamers (10+ years of gaming), what is your GOTD (game of the decade)?

For better or for worse, it shaped the morden FPS.
MW was a great game but by the time it was released, the 'modern FPS' was pretty much formed. What it did shape was a never ending franchise that Activision won't let go even if faced with bankruptcy. There's no denying it's popularity, but I think Halo: CE shaped the modern FPS a great deal more. Unfortunately, a biproduct of CoD's popularity were the awful shovelware games that followed in suit. Not exactly IW/Treyarch's fault but it still happened.
Which is pretty much what I ment by for better and for worse.

Pff, tough one. I don't often buy new games.

I think I'll go with Team Fortress 2. I played that game for nearly 800 hours now, it was a good 3-4 year ride so far.

This would be late by a couple of weeks, but Grand Theft Auto 3 gets my vote. No game ever gave me the same sense of freedom or just really had that sandbox feel before this game had come along. The slick car chases, the corny story with it's oddball cast, punctuated with an ending that had me laughing, gun battles aplenty. GTA3 was an unexpected triumph in transition; it left it's "last gen" forefathers in the dust and just dazzled me in practically every way. Oft imitated, played to death by myself and I'm sure many others, it really showed what the "sandbox" era had in store, and it really was a leap forward in gaming as a whole.

Game of the decade? Ether Alan Wake or The Witcher 2; Assassins Of Kings.

Also Imma throw out a IPhone game there called 'Dark Meadow' Because it's Silent Hill mixed with Amnesia.

I really can't decide between Wind Waker and Portal.

Honorable mentions:
- Dragon Age Origins
- Ace Attorney series
- Super Mario Galaxy
- Portal 2
- Mass Effect
- Fallout 3
- Heavy Rain (yes, really)

I love Half-Life 2. It got me into doing what I do now; or want to do in the future that is.

For me it would be Dragon Age: Origins, or Hitman: Blood Money.

(They are my fourth and fifth favourite games of all time. Alas, the top 3, X-COM, Starcraft and Deus Ex are still unmatched).

I'm going to say WoW. Whether you like it or not, there's no denying that it is one of, if not the most influential games of our generation. It's one of the few games that you can mention to a non-gamer and have them know what you're talking about. It's had a Southpark episode dedicated to it and it has influenced every mmorpg since. I'd say Call of Duty is up there too, even though I personally despise first person shooters.

Now, just to clarify, I'm not saying WoW is the BEST game of the last 10 years (I like it and play it, but I don't think it deserves that title). It's just one of the most influential.

Been gaming ever since I was 4. I have to say the Original Pikmin, followed closely by Portal, then Team Fortress 2.

Why the 10 years if I may ask? Out of sheer curiosity by the way.

Banjo Kazooie on the N64, along with Banjo-Tooie.

In that prespective, Conkers Bad Fur day was a good one too.
I kinda do miss the cheery 'happy go lucky grim world' type of games. Nowadays every fantasy is either hopelessly emo or dark gritty 'I'm a long wolf, the rest can sod off' that turns into 'stop following me around, I have to do this alone' and eventually into 'I had to do this on my own, you all ruined it for me!'.

Myeah. Either people develop the game all the way to the right or all the way to the left.
I want that Banjo Kazooie feel back :V (And if anyone mentions Nuts and Bolts I'm gonna cry.)

sidenote: Final Fantasy 10 was the last of the games that I played that were actually set into a real fantasy style world with the actual feeling of a fantasy, instead of realism in a world with a unicorn and a minotaur every now and then (I.e. Oblivion)
beat me to it! I was thinking Conkers Bad Fur Day too. I miss games like those, however saints row kind of feels similar in regards to their humor even if there two different types of games.

Homeworld 1 or 2. They are both awesome games with great storylines, great music and awesome campaigns. I have never been as emotionally triggered by a game as with the destruction of Kharak and such. This game is so beautifully made, i dont know any game that can meet the standards.
Agreed, they were such epic games.

Game of the decade? We've had this thread for the past 3 years (1999-2009, 2000-2010, and now this). Yesh...

Anyway, I'd say BioShock since that and Final Fantasy VII are my two favorite games.

Couldn't you have made this thread on friday? If Skyrim blows Oblivion out of the water, then Skyrim. If it does not, Oblivion.
