For the person who created the Windows Update System, death is too good.

I simply want to vent.

Played 2 hours of Dwarf Fortress when suddenly windows decides to update without displaying a message or timer. Just BAM update, I lose all my progress. I fantasize about finding whoever invented such in intrusive, nonsense system and letting them know how upset I am that they chose this walk of life.

It's MY computer. MY property. The only person who should be able to f**k with it is me. This kind of s**t should be a criminal offence. Moreover it should be left to vigilante justice because whoever did this wasted precious hours of my brief existence. I should be able to slice fractions of their body off, maybe fingers and toes, to symbolically represent the hours of life they stole from me.

Actually scratch that I want to murder their offspring. I should hide a message in their house with "I am going to murder your child in 15 minutes, would you like to postpone?" If they don't finf the message it's their own fault. This might seem a little extreme but I think we can all agree whoever designed the update-your-system-while-you-arn't-looking program deserves it.

Bear in mind that your PC will have been telling you it was going to restart for the update for two full days before it did it, and you have full control of how it is going to install updates.

So whose fault is this, the person who designed a system to keep the PC illiterate from reducing herd immunity by running unpatched systems, or the person who couldn't be arsed to work out what his PC was going to do about updates?

Press Start button.

Open Control Panel.

In top right, select view by small/large icons.

Select Windows Update.

On the left, select Change Settings.

In the dropdown, change it to download updates but let you choose whether to install them.

I like the complaint about how Microsoft updating Windows should be illegal, which then comes before making violent threats. Priorities people! Priorities!

In other news, some people really don't understand their computers and how to change the settings to what they want.

You can disable automatic updates, you know. Here [http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/turn-automatic-updating-on-off#turn-automatic-updating-on-off=windows-8] are step-by-step instructions for Windows 8.1, and here [http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/turn-automatic-updating-on-off#turn-automatic-updating-on-off=windows-7] are the Windows 7 instructions.

How was the automatic update not the first thing you turned off when you booted up?

I do agree that it is frustrating that it is the default but the reason for it defaulting to automatic is for the Grandma's of the computing world that are just trying to get to their "email box" and don't know how to do anything else.

I know 'violent threats' are on the mind today, but this is not a threat of violence.
1. It wasn't sent to the person.
2. It is clearly hyperbolic.

Calm thyselves.

Also I agree, the Windows update system can die in a fire.

It's an annoying system that I wish had more of a warning before it goes off. You can disable it but I generally don't so sometimes it happens.

*shrug*

Not sure if this is supposed to be satire.
If it is, it isn't funny.
If it's a serious rant, you might want to work on anger management.
