Hmmm...I am sensing this is a way to get peole to check out your blog...

Just kidding, maybe you should try advertising with shame.

If your writing is good, try and get an article published here or on another website that your desired audience hangs out. I know the Escapist is looking for articles. You would start to get some traffic if people liked your work I would bet.

Again, just kidding.

In reality you should probably develop some new angle or setup to distinguish yourself from all the other 13 million people who have a blog. Maybe attempt to colaberate with a gaming website to feature your blog. Or, you could always streak naked down the street with a sign with your website adress on it [sub]that's what I would do[/sub]

OH you tricky bastard, I see what you did there [/joke]

My friend And I had a blog a while back where we would review unsigned bands, and the way it got mildly popular was that the bands would tell their fans and other bands about us and we got views through word of mouth (Per se). basically get people who already go there to get their friends to check it out and if they become fans they'll get other friends to check it out and so on and so on.

Drop subtle hints about you having a blog in your posts, on other forums or if you go on a forum that lets you have a sig put a link in your sig.

In my experience, you don't. You wallow in squalor and anonymity until you eventually snap from the isolation and start writing five hundred word essays detailing why trees are the enemy of mankind.

Because they are.

Seamlessly plug it into other situations. For example, forum threads about blogs. For a more specific example, this thread. I assumed that's what you were doing. You rather missed something here.

Post into other peoples blogs about similar topics, linking back to points made in your own ect, ect, whatever.

Dumb luck. Go with that.

Be honest, to the point and interesting I wont look at one if its a copy paste of the last five Ive seen
Try and get a interesting angle on something I already know about and spark one on a topic I don't know about (Remember its up to you to show me something interesting and prove to me that it is)
Being funny is always a good bonus but can backfire

I know you were against shamelessly plugging your blog but...well, what's the website? I would not mind checking it out and at least giving you one person of an ego boost (assuming I like it of course...)

If you review a game on your blog, put the review here in the User Reviews section, and provide a link back to your blog.
I've been thinking of doing that, but I'm a little worried it's against the rules.
Anyone got a clue?

Might as well advertise it here, since it's sorta on topic.

First, tell your friends about it, mention it to people who would be interested in what your blog is about, be-friend other bloggers who live near you, go to conventions and talk to people about it, etc etc. Basically, get the word out to people who care. Find people who care by socializing with people of similar interests as your blog. Once you get to know other bloggers and people like them, you could have them give publicity to your blog, expanding its base.

Second, make it NEW! Make it stand out, from its theme, its humour(if any), its visual layout, as much as possible without loosing the point of the blog. If you don't have any ideas, look at all the other blogs on the internet, take notes about what they all do, and do what they don't do.

Third, if you're doing any type of critical, political, or review blog, know your subject. If you care about what you write about and you aren't stuck up your own ass, this will be the easiest step.
