As a repeat of the topic, this is mostly for those that read the original Teen Titans comics. I want to know what your thoughts are/were of the old Teen Titans cartoon. Was it decent, good, bad, what did you think? I'm mostly asking this in that I sadly decided to watch an episode of Teen Titans GO, unknowing of what I was getting into. One of the comments talked about how original fans of the comic books thought the old show was a mockery of what the comics had been, due to it having more "comedy" in it and changing a LOT of the source material. I suppose I'm mostly trying to figure out if you felt just as much like vomitting over the old cartoon as I currently do over the new one.

And for anyone that hasn't read the comics, but maybe watched the cartoon and have seen the new one, what are your thoughts of GO?

I think that The Teen Titans cartoon show introduced a whole new batch of people to the world of comics (of course, this could be very bad thing, according to some die hard, "Keep out, this is our hobby club house!" fan boys out there). That's the show that got me to start reading the Teen Titan comics, or at least The New Teen Titan comics. Before then, I had no idea who Raven, Starfire, Beast Boy or even Cyborg were. Now though, I've read as much of the New Teen Titans as I could possibly get my hands on, and I have followed Raven's character across multiple series. Including the rather painful-at-times Teen Titans, with Superboy and Wondergirl.
And personally, I think the cartoon show does a better job with the characters than the original comics. Raven is useful, Starfire doesn't come off as eye candy first, character second, Beast Boy's jokes seem more humorous, and Cyborg feels like he's part of the team more. Of course, that could totally be because I watched the TV show first.

As for GO, I don't know. I enjoyed it. I thought it was rather funny, but I completely understand why other people are going to hate it.

I haven't read the original comics, but apparently they were aimed more for mid-late teens. The themes were a bit heavier, and romance played a bigger role. So, a lot of the fans disliked the show since it was aimed towards a younger audience. I'll admit I'm a bit curious about the original comics, but comic books is such a confusing vortex of timelines and alternate universes and reboots, I can't quite bring myself to make the jump.

I really enjoyed the cartoon though. Lot of fun. It was light hearted, but still had some tense moments. Each character was really well developed, with plenty of complexity and more than enough time in the spotlight. It is more for kids, but I'd say its a worthwhile cartoon to check out.

As for GO... I did enjoy it somewhat. It made me chuckle, and had sort of that slapstick comedy that a lot of cartoon network and nickelodeon cartoons did. That being said, I can't figure out why they used Teen Titans. They could have invented their own characters, and the show would have been just the same. I may watch another episode or two, but I probably won't see it to the end. The main problem is that it seems to be aimed for an even younger audience (like 7 and under).

How will GO fare? Online, it will fail. Old fans hate it because while it may be an ok standalone, people will compare it to its predecessor, and it will be found wanting. Also, everyone knows that Young Justice was canceled, and this took its place, which further fuels the hatred.

I haven't had a problem at all with either show, but then I've sorta handwaved GO as an in-universe licensed cartoon that the Titans lent their likenesses to because maintaining a huge T-shaped building is super-expensive.

I haven't read the comics, but as someone who grew up on the DCAU, I really disliked the original cartoon. Hate is a bit too strong of a word, but it really baffles me to see people gushing about it. For me it fell into the same trap as a lot of early Western attempts at cashing in on the anime boom, where it tried to copy the art style but messed it up, and relied on way too many poorly done anime-esque facial expression gags.

Plus, the action and the comedy never meshed well. The action at its best was okay, but it was always dragged down by the comedy, which wasn't particularly good. It was basically two "meh" components smashed together to make something that was less than the sum of its parts. I haven't seen Teen Titans: Go yet, but I'm actually mildly interested in it, since the original show would have been much better if it had picked either action or comedy and focused on that, and we already saw what the show would look like if it focused on action. It was called Young Justice, and it was beyond cool.

By the way, I have heard something from fans of the comics: Young Justice the show is a lot like Teen Titans the comic, while Teen Titans the show is a lot like Young Justice the comic. Since you read comics, that might mean something to you.
