But I will agree the Japanese ones are best.

Why is that prepubescent boy wearing a bikini? His mother should really do something about that...

I think the problom is most people don't go as people to fit there body types. For example since i'm really short and kinda chubby My spciallity is small children or chibi characters like Aryll from windwaker. If your really tall and kinda skiny you can take your pick from the bucket load. but the problom is most people don't really fit into these so they say screw it and do whatever they want. Thats not bad. They can still have fun if they add something cool to the character but if they don't they stand out like a sore thumb and.

Personally, I'm not into it, but if you are, good for you. I'm glad when people take the time out of their lives to enjoy something they do, be it Cosplay, or RPing or DnD. I'm a little less glad when I see pictures like this

I have absolutely no problem with cosplaying myself, as I indulge in it occasionally. The problem though, is many people dress to be their favorite characters, instead of using a character with a similar body type. Which is why we see so many people with too much to show wearing too little. I'm average in size, and by no means in shape, so on the rare occasion that I actually cosplay I choose characters with similar body types or wear lots of clothing. The last character I cosplayed as was as Hitomi Kanzaki from Escaflowne. Unfortunately, I'm one of few sensible ones like that. Though I have to admit, the worst I've seen at a con was a 6 ft. tall, 400 lb. woman dressed as Shippo from InuYasha.

Cosplay is one of those things where you're either really good or really terrible. A good cosplay can require hundreds of dollars, countless hours, and considerable skill. Most of the best cosplayers are either experts in costume design or are willing to pay professionals up to a thousand dollars. I once paid $150 for costume pieces, assembled the costume, was really proud of myself, brought it to Gen Con, and realized it was crap.

So high cost of entry + people willing to try it anyway = Sturgeon's law.

I once knew a girl. She was something like 5'6" and weighed 180 pounds, but carried her weight really well. Basically living proof that you don't have to be anorexic to be attractive. Wanna know who she wanted to cosplay as one year? Lust from Full Metal Alchemist. Yeah. The tight-rope walking I had to do to talk her out of that...

Third one along ('fucking' link), I don't believe that that's a real person...it looks too similar

Me and my friend went to a Manga convention where one kid (about 12) dressed as Gara from Naruto. 2 things about this:

1. The guy leading the presentation broke off half-way through a sentence to comment on him, saying "Wait, is that kid wearing eye-liner?"

2. Me and my friend just kept singing 'Gara of the funk' from Naruto Abridged

If anyone can dress up PROPERLY as a Gundam model, that'd be amazing

I dunno, I think its a bit fucked up. Especially the people that will only refer to themselves as the character name when they;re in the suit.

And most of the people that do it are fat and ugly (the internet is a liar). I passed by one convention on the way to a concert. It smelled like ass and I've never seen so many fatchicks in tights.

So yeah, Cosplay is a bit too far for me. For know, I'll continue my distance from it
Ah, the smell of sweaty fat people. Tis like Satan invades your nostrals.

I could probably get away with anyone as short as me (seriously, I'm 5 foot). Probably a male character too, since I could hide the boobs and I have a very masculine face and haircut.

I have a serious question to ask you.

Why?
What is it about cosplay you dislike?

I'm not trying to be a jerk or anything like that; I'm honestly curious. I've heard a lot of people say that they think it's creepy and I've also heard people mention that it's only "retarded fangirls" that do it.
So, I'm not asking about the people that cosplay and why you dislike them. I'm asking what you don't like about cosplay itself, if there's anything.

In case you don't know, cosplay is basically dressing up as an anime or video game character.

Let me tell you as a guy living in a country where cosplay is socially embarassing and with no costumes available anyway,if someone doesn't like it they are having too much spare time, money, and hate.(so that i don't call them ^^^^^)

I agree 100% While they have every right to dress as who they want the way i see it it's disrespecting the character to portray him/her bad.

I don't understand why people would have a problem with cosplay. Don't like it, ignore it.

I dislike that most people in these sorts of threads ignore the most important (in my opinion) factor: the construction. Cosplay isn't just about "dressing up like the character", it's a display of skill in construction and design, bringing something from two dimensions to three (or sometimes just from the screen to reality, from a game or television show).

But I'm biased; I cosplay. Most of my friends do, too.

She's been photoshopped. Which is sad, I've seen the unedited one and she really didn't need it.

That's my point exactly. Your friend sounds like she's built along the exact same lines as I am (Though I hold no claim to calling myself attractive, I consider myself to be rather plain). She would have been able to pull off Hawkeye rather well, rather than Lust, and few cosplayers stop to think about their body type when it comes to costumes. Hell, I've seen women who can't dress themselves properly in normal clothes, and that makes me sad.

She's real. You can tell because of the material the costume is made from. If you look closely at screen shots of Vanille, her clothes seem to be made of leather or something similar, while this girl's costume is made of what looks like a polyester-nylon hybrid.

DO YOU SEE WHAT FOUL WRATH YOU HAVE BROUGHT UPON US COSTUMED PLAY, DO YOU?! YOU HAVE DAMNED US ALL!

Okay, Okay, I'm joking - I don't have an issue with it. At all.
Personally, if you want to show devotion to a show/manga by dressing up like a character from it, go right ahead.

I think people find an issue with it because they feel it's 'weird' or 'strange.'

When, in all actuality, it's pretty much Halloween - minus scaring the hell out of infants and all of the candy.
HAHAHAHAHAHA

Yeah thats mostly why I hate cosplay. However if its a hot chick doing cosplay I have no qualms with it at all.

Honestly I think that is awesome. If I saw that guy at a comic con I would be so happy. Funniest thing ever.

I love cosplay. I don't have the money/time/skill/desire to do it myself, but I think it's great that people do it. Granted there are people with shit costumes but at most comic cons I'd say the ratio of shit to decent is pretty 50/50.
I don't really understand the people that hate it. Maybe they are just jealous they can't do it themselves?
In any case, I've seen some pretty damn fine looking girls cosplay so I am not going to complain.

See the thing about Cosplay is that it is either awesome or shit. It is very hit and miss it can either be sexy or make you wanna vomit. It is also very marmitey as people either love doing it/seeing it or hate it. If the costumes are done well and on the right gender or atleast right looking gender(ie no hairy, beared, male Sailor Moons). As someone already said with the Kefka videos they need to act like the character or atleast try to to make it good.
