I work at walmart, and we still had black friday.

not only did we have black friday, it started on fucking thursday.

I should be a sheep dog, because I corralled those mother fuckers into calm and organized lines in my section of the store in the hours leading up to 6pm when it started.
You have the gift, my child. To control the wild beasts. Use that gift wisely.

Black Friday as an American thing makes sense, even if you hate the shopping-related madness that comes with it. What doesn't make sense is that it's been exported to most of the rest of the world now too, where we don't celebrate Thanksgiving, and don't have any holidays at this time of year. So this is just bargain day on a random Friday in November. Having another Steam sale is always good though! ;o)

I don't know about you but Black Friday in the UK was just a normal Saturday. Most of the shopping was done online, the deals werent that good at all and yeah, a dull day. Well, apart from the few customers who argue about something that leads to nothing but that's just retail.

So all in all. Online stores are gaining more ground again retail stores. Better deals, less fess and more wider range of products.

Fuck Black Friday!!

It's all about consistency of brand. Black Friday is a pretty huge public part of their North American marketing efforts, and it's in their best interest to unify their global image.
OT: I'm a seasonal hire at Best Buy, and I think I got off pretty easy. My role was to put our back-stock of mobile accessories (phone cases, headphones, portable speakers, etc.) up as the shelves were cleared out. You know what people (evidently) aren't there to purchase? Accessories for the things they're there to purchase. I spent way more time putting back abandoned purchases and helping customers find movies because I had so much extra time on my hands. Plus, Best Buy bought the employees food, AND we're getting holiday pay, so...

Honestly, the hardest part about it all was that so much of the inventory in the store got moved around, and the people in my department weren't told where anything was moved. It felt absolutely horrible to take a customer to a place where the item they wanted SHOULD have been, and informed them that we appeared to be out, only to walk by a display packed with the damn things on the other side of the store an hour later. So, let that be a lesson, when it turns out that the employees "mysteriously" found stock in the back or whatever, it's not some kind of crazy timed deployment strategy. We literally did just find some more in the back (or wherever).

I've been going out to Black Friday sales for the past number of years and honestly I've never seen it be all that bad. Busy as all hell, sure, but I've never seen a fight break out or people literally pushing others out of their way in the rush for whatever it is they want. Worst I've seen is some people attempting to dash into the store ahead of the people who waited in line for hours as soon as the store opens, but invariably they are stopped by the security officers and made to wait.

On Black Friday, I sat at home and watched this.

I have been working in retail since the beginning of the year and this video speaks so much truth.

eg. Fallout 4. Pre-order was £44.99 and sent to your home on the 10th of November, free delivery, the day of release. The day of release has arrived and the game is £39.99. Then the next day, 11th, it's back up to £44.99.

See how something isn't right there? Those who pre-ordered paid more than those who got it in store on day one. How's that fair? Fair? There is no such thing.
