My problem with My Little Pony is that it's insanely popular when there are better kids cartoons out there. I mean, look at something like Adventure Time or Regular Show. Both of those shows are by far better executed than MLP and they aren't as "preachy" as MLP. They also can appeal to more than just kids, which MLP aimed for exclusively but also somehow hit the 4chan demographic.
I think it was just by chance. It's the fandom that then created more fandom and so on. For me the fandom made the difference. If there wasn't this big brony fandom I'd probably never given it a try. Also the huge amount of good qualitiy fan videos made the difference for me.
It could have happend with any show. It were probably multible little factors that led to MLP specifically but that would require lots of research and detail analysis.
Alfred J. quack [http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alfred_J._Kwak] is a good example of a Show that would deserve more attention. It even has the holocaust and Nazi dictation as themes.

Incorrect. MLP:FiM is a family show aimed at girls and their parents. There are plenty of in-jokes and such for the older audience.

* * *

That said, why do I like the show?

Strong, diverse female protagonists. I'm a sucker for these, regardless of if they're humans or ponies or whatever else.

The lesson of the day. Yes, I actually enjoy these. I suppose they remind me of shows like Mighty Morphin Power Rangers... except MLP does it so much better.

It's surprisingly cool and funny once you get into it. I especially like the jokes spawned from the usually very human mannerisms the pony characters exhibit, such as Rarity's refusal to let Spike into the room when they're getting dressed for the gala:

Finally... it's soooo cuuuuuuuute! :D

EDIT: Also, musicals. I love musicals. I somehow can't get enough of singing along to old Disney songs... or Mamma Mia... or South Park... or... or...

I watched the first three episodes of MLP: Friendship is Magic (just to see what all the hubbub was about) and I have to say it's one of the kiddiest cartoons I ever saw. I mean, it's nicely made, the voice acting is good but it's aimed at young kids. I don't get why all these adults are falling all over it, which is saying a lot since I can enjoy a good cartoon.

So yeah, not a Brony here.
Likewise, i watched a few episodes (this was when i was objective towards bronies)and after watching the show i really do think that bronies have taken their fandom too far.

All I'm gonna say is: If you actually tried the show and you didn't like it, that's cool. I respect you for having a mind of your own.

But is it really too much to ask for a reason why you hate/don't like it? Reading a shit ton of posts all generally implying outright hate for the show is really frustrating, especially for fans of the show (like me,) and ESPECIALLY without any reason why.
I think that is a valid reason to dislike something, or more precisely, the fans of something. If something you have no interest in is talked about all the time, it can easily annoy you. But if you are told over and over to watch it that can turn to an extreme dislike of the something in question, especially if the something in question is clearly not aimed at you, and there is nothing to suggest that you would find it at all interesting. This kind of behavior can really sour someones view of something without them ever seeing it. But its not a real legitimate reason to hate the show, really just those annoying fans who claim 'The only reason you don't like it is because you never seen it', Maybe I don't like it because it has nothing in common with any other show I like, and has things in common with shows I don't like. I'm not accusing you of being such a person, just my point kinda grew out of yours.

Watched a few episodes it's decently animated and the voice acting is well done but it still aimed at 4 year old kids and I cannot see what all the fuss is about.

At this point the so called "bronies" are annoying me more then the show itself. I would even say that they are more annoying then Justin Bieber/Twillight fans.

Yeah I've watched it. I liked it but it simply is not worthy of the fanboyism it's receiving. It's good but not spectacular. 7/10.

I think the part of the appeal of FiM is that it is a "girl" show that could have so easily done the checklist for a girl show, but they didn't.

In short, the show is far better than it should be and such shows should be praised and appreciated so that way other shows could start to appear with equal or better performance.

OR we can banish such a show so that way the current piece of **** shows of today can be demanded more.

Pet Rocks.

Tomagachi.

My Little Pony is just the latest in a long line of fads, and it's perfectly fine to ride the fad wave. I'm just not on that ride.
I don't remember Pet Rocks having this many memes and an entire image board site sprung up because of it's existence.

But I suppose it doesn't matter as long haters keep to them themselves and the lovers don't flaunt it in peoples faces.

I stayed all night to watch MLP:FIM marathon (I know I'm surprised too) but then I realize how many references I have picked up.

Examples:
Doctor Hoofs - Doctor Who
Swarm of the Century - Pipe Piper story
A Bird in the Hoof - Trolls
A Dog and Pony Show - Lord of the rings

The maze - The labyrinth Movie

Too busy watching the first episode of the second season to care about parasprites (trolls) trying to bash the show, so I leave you with this:

Heh, shame that neither group are able to adhere to those simple guidelines. I'm honestly just so burned out hearing about goddam ponies. Everywhere I look, ponies. It's just exhausting.
