Since they're all vastly different, what's your favorite Transformers series BESIDES G1. For me, it's the latest series, Prime. I enjoy thoroughly mainly due to the fact there is great writing in the series, beautiful animation, and some rather creative plot points. The acting is pretty well done and the human characters are a bit more fleshed out than normal. Meiko is annoying at times, but I don't think that's a bad writing point, I think it's part of her character in an odd twisted way. Jack is definitely a great character and I can relate to him easily, as well as Agent Fowler. I find that the Cybertronians themselves are more fleshed out than previous series, a bit more life to them. Megatron actually has some relatively smart plans and actually realizes Starscream is not the greatest assistance. I also like how they have the over-arching factors that they keep track of, such as the metal eating pests. It's like the equivalent of ants eating you alive.

I grew up with Beasties. (That's Beast Wars for you non Canadians) It's like the Deep Space Nine of the franchise, shaking things up majorly, and being generally fucking awesome.

I do like Transformers Prime right now more than the anime-esque mid 2000s series. Something about how the humans are animated in Prime makes them hilarious. And there's this.

I did watch Beast when I was younger but I don't remember much from it, sadly...I feel a bit terrible for that. But I do remember a few plot points and characters. As for the video, that's a clip show done right. It actually comes out as a logical event that would happen after the previous episode, and at the same time, answers a few questions. Like why Fowler doesn't need equipment for his aircraft. Also, the ending is pretty hilarious. "I am fine and well. How are you?"

I'd also say Prime is my favourite. The writing is clever and the animation is brilliant. I like the little details they put in like the Transformers sustaining battle damage. If Optimus is punched in the chest, his windshields crack, or there is a dent, things like that.

And the human characters are probably the best out of all the various incarnations. One of the problems I've had with the humans, especially in G1, is that they never think that a suspicious car/plane/tape player is a Decepticon until it transforms. In Prime the characters tend to make the logical conclusion, which led to a good twist when it turned out they were being attacked by normal vehicles driven by people one time.

Agreed and agreed. An interesting factor about the humans is that they are indeed more logical than past humans. I especially like the scene where Jack and Megatron talk and Megatron says "Kill me now. It's what Optimus would do." And Jack responds with "...No. It's not what he would do." It is rather cheesy, but it shows the bots and humans are vastly understanding of each other, not to mention the humans provide their own skills to assist, like Jack's Mother who's a nurse.

As for the bots themselves...Arcee is a brilliant retcon. I love her completely in this series. She doesn't feel like a tacked on female robot like in G1, and the writers don't make her preppy or girly in any way. She's a wonderful character, not to mention her relationship with Jack is like a sibling factor.

Truth be told, I can't really remember the details of any of the series, but I know I grew up with Armada, so I'll go with that. I don't even want to know how many Mini-Cons I've got scattered around the back room of my basement.

The Michael Bay movies.

I kid, though I was never into TF as a kid, my first real exposure to it was in fact the new movies. Pretty much the only cartoon I watched as a kid was Batman.

Beast Wars first, then Prime, then Beast Machines, then Animated. I also like the Unicron trilogy, but not as much as the ones I said. All of the series I liked did it right: they took the established continuities and set it aside for the sake of the story they wanted to tell while keeping the core intact. They took elements of the series and rearranged them into something that works for that particular version of the series. More importantly, they limited the character set to about 20-25 characters, with about 10-15 core characters in total. That way we get to see some character growth with everyone.

I'm not a fan of the G1 Transformers. The story lines were bad, characters were introduced just to sell a new toy then forgotten about, and there was no character development. The characters were complete pussies as well. For being a supposed badass leader, that version of Megatron never really got into battle that often. He would also retreat from battle when one of his soldiers got hurt, something that a thug like him should never do. Sorry, but a leader like Megatron should never lead from the rear. He is good at battle, not strategy. He should be right in the thick of it when the situation calls for it.

Also, it was cobbled together from three different toylines, one called Micromen, another called Diaclone and from one of the Macross series. Ever wondered why Optimus and Megatron never shared screen time? Ever wondered why the Transformers turned mostly into cars and the Decepticons turned into walkmans, pistols and planes? Read this article and find out.

And no, I did not cry when I saw Optimus die in the 88 Animated movie. Around that time, my grandmother died and the death of a figment paled to the real one my 9 year old self had to deal with.

Everything I liked about Megatron was not in the G1 Transformers cartoon. Sorry, but it wasn't. All of you saw a better version of the character from other sources and your memory of that better version was transposed on the G1 Megatron. The core of the Megatron character you love was created by Marvel Comics, mostly the United Kingdom iteration of the comic book.
