To be honest. Flags annoy me, I dislike walking down a street and seeing every second house waving an Australian flag. I know I'm in Australia, why do these people need wave it around. It's almost like their afraid someone will tell them that their 'un-Australian' or some nonsense like that.

The only thing that annoys me more than flags in that regard are the previously mentioned, are the "This is my country, if you don't agree with me your un-Australian" wanka's.

As far as the OP's opinion goes, I'm sorry you'll have to live with it. Its their and land they can wave what they want over it. You should actually be happy for them, their providing you with something different to look at. Other than row after row of US flags.

I believe that people should fly whatever flag they so choose, so long as it's within reason. Simple answer, but it's what I believe in.

It's just showing pride in your heritage. My neighborhood is heavily Portugese (Or from Portugese speaking countries). One of the houses nearby has an Angolan flag hanging from the flag post. Nothing wrong with it. It just say's "I am from an Angola and I am proud of that."

What the big deal with flags anymore. If I seen the British flag burning i'd be like ok don't care(not sure about other people from the Britain) Although recently it's not been burned but held up by Iranian protestors:p and the Scottish flag being waved at that guy going back to Libya.

Its a flag. If you are honestly thinking that someone putting up a foreign flag is essentially their way of thinking "my country is better than yours" Get over yourself.

I know what you mean; years ago when the UN announced they would send peace keepers into East Timor they chose Australia to lead the charge. Soon after we had news footage of Indonesian protesters burning Australian flags.

As I recall no one cared, it just wasn't something that bothered Australians back then. In fact some people were proud of it, joking that we were a proper power in the region now that we were hated.

I tried to extort and conquer a small section of land in Massachusetts from this "ownapieceofamerica" site so I could erect a flagpole and fly a flag of my own design. Just because. I had plans to declare independance too.

On topic though, America is culturally diverse. Why would you want to hide that?

"Should people be allowed to fly other flags"

Lol @ naivete. "Land of the free" indeed. I fly a black and red one. Patriots don't like it. Maybe I should fly a UK union flag as well, to show how I'm a BRITISH Anarchist. Here people who fly the union, or the George Cross, generally are BNP wackos anyway.

Being proud of your country is fucked up anyway, I mean surely it kind of means you support all those murky things they don't tell you about, like CIA torture. Plus the ones they do, like wars.

As an Australian we don't fly our flags... it's too American.
Correct it is a very american thing to do. Do they really chant to the flag in schools?

Theres nothing wrong with being proud of your country but having hundreds of flags draping every building in all major american cities is going too far and it just looks tacky!

See this is why I like Canada better than the USA in Canada we pride ourselves on multiculturalism but in the USA they want to be one big single culture (the melting pot thing, but you know when you melt a bunch of different crayons you get one single gross looking colour YES I SPELLED IT WITH A "U" the canadaian way -thumbs up-) thats probably the basis of this in the USA its "fly our flag be patriotic" in Canada its "fly your own flag be your own individual culture"
Yay! Go Commonwealth nations! It's time to take our language back!! :D

My opinion on foreign flag's? I'm fine with it, one of the bars here on campus has a whole collection of European flag's decorating the ceiling, there is a union jack imprint on one of the university building's. Hotel's in Britain sometimes fly the national flag of any foreigners that are staying within it. I've seen the American flag, the European Union flag and the Japanese flag flying outside hotel building's.

I don't see any issue of displaying foreign flag's in one's country at all.

I can sum up OPs post in a single sentence.

"American or GTFO!" Yep, that does it. Also, nobody's stopping you waving YOUR flag, unlike my country.

And, call me mad, but aren't Americans all immigrants themselves?

I see no problem with flying your own country's flag.
Just because the American flag isn't there doesn't mean they don't respect it.
They own the car/land, they can fly what ever flag they want on it.

I've got no problem with it. Here in The Netherlands, I sometimes see people having only a non-Dutch flag hanging from their homes. Whatever - it's fine with me. It's kinda cool to, because you can see where they came from. Most Dutch people only fly the Dutch flag during major events or their birthday anyway, it's not like all the houses and buildings are decorated with flags. Hell, even goverment buildings usually don't fly a flag.

It's a piece of cloth... Seriously.

And you know what? If I for some weird reason ever moved to America, I would fly the Norwegian flag if I could, just for kicks. If I was told to bring it down because it is "unpatriotic", I wouldn't fly any flag. Patriotism is silly.

I don't see why people shouldn't be allowed to fly their own nation's flag where they want to. It's stupid to say "No, you have to fly the american flag instead, or else don't fly any flag at all".

Why not, fly whatever flag you want to. I don't care... Burn it or use it as toilet paper, we can always make more...

P.S Not American but Swedish...
