Anyone who browses the user reviews section on these forums knows how much I loathed AssCreed 3. It was one of the worst experiences i've ever had playing a game, as a result every other AC game went on the back burner forever (I hadn't even touched AC2 yet, and had played a bit of AC1). I saw AC4 in a red box the other night and decided to pick it up (mostly to gather about an hour of footage for my year end GOTY video).

Lo and Behold! I actually enjoyed playing the game. All of the problems I had with AC3 (shitty controls, lame acting, incomprehensible plot and lack of context for the mini games and collectables) have been rectified?for the most part. There's still a few iffy issues with the combat in huge groups and the naval combat's randomness, but overall this is pretty impressive in the way it's managed to suck me back into the series.

What do you think of AC4 so far?

Well that's good to know, I (well, my Dad) was intending on getting AssCreed IV when I got an Xbox One since it was mostly water based and the only bits anybody liked about AssCreed 3 were the boat missions. But isn't Desmond still in the game? You can't remove lame acting with a character like that :p

He's mentioned, but I haven't seen him yet. The boat missions are still as good as ever, and, because you're a pirate, it actually feels good causing havoc.

You played Assassins Creed 3 before Assassins Creed 2? How many other games in the series have you played to base your opinion on? I mean I didn't have as many problems with AC3 as alot of other people did but it certainly is the lowest point in the series thus far.

I've heard alot of good things about Black Flag and I plan to play it soon as a somewhat "fan" of the series but the most interesting feedback I've heard about it suggests the best parts of it are those that have the least to do with the
Assassins and the whole conspiracy backstory of the other games. It's almost as though Black Flag is the Assassins Creed game for people who don't like Asssassins Creed?

I've played all the games countless times (ok ACIII I only played 3 times cause I'm not that keen on it) but Black Flag is brilliant, I can't put it down! Being at sea, attacking forts and British and Spanish boats is so much fun, and believe me, after a while you'll even be joining in with the shanties!

I've not completed the game yet (damn you work, getting in the way!) but so far Desmond has been mentioned a few times, (there's a video and some voice messages that he had left for people) And I don't think acting had anything to do with making him lame, Ubisoft made him "Mr Plain" in the first game so you focused more on Altair, by the time thry tried to give him a personality in ACII it was "too little, too late"

the modern assassin's angle is done brilliantly, it's more subtle, you know like assassin's are suposed to be!

I might pick it up when it drops in price. I loved Assassins Creed 2. I hated Assassins Creed 3.

So I'm kind of on the fence. Not a release buy for me, purely because of how much I hated AC 3.

I wasn't sold on it, despite it looking pretty damn cool for the most part... until I saw the modern day segments. That's how you do that, and it's mostly optional too. Gonna do it anyway.

I can still see it getting that special AssCreed brand of repetitive though, unless the boat upgrading really changes things.

From what I played I really liked it (even though it isnt that different from the second), although I would have liked to see actual stealth as a more viable solution instead of what it is at the moment (for stealth there is usually a very linear path that you must take). They only needed to make the character be able to crouch and the map itself would have a lot more places to hide, for now you are forced to use the bushes that are placed in very convinient spots.

I've completely finished the game and Desmond didn't show up other than some audio logs/footage. It gets my "Desmond Free" seal of approval.

Overall I had a blast with the game. With Revelations and ACIII I had to force myself to finish those games (especially Revelations), but this one I couldn't stop playing. The naval combat was absurdly satisfying. A trip anywhere would involve me sinking dozens of vessels, just because I could. The stealth system and missions seem much more fluid as well. I didn't play a single mission that was too slow or boring. It's just a much smoother game than the previous ones.

I'm holding off for the PS4 version.

I'm glad Ubisoft decided to make an entire game with the one good mechanic AC3 had.

I personally love the game

The Naval combat is amazing, there's a bigger emphasis on stealth in missions, the combat is actually harder, and the characters/story are pretty great so far.

Played the first one once for a hour, didn't bother with 2 or 3 but the 4th one is awesome. The pirate songs get a little tiresome but naval combat is fun. Learned the hard way not to admire the beauty of a Legendary ship.

Luckily you can make them stop singing. XD

I really enjoyed those legendary ships. Even with a fully upgraded Jackdaw some of them are tough nuts to crack. In the end I had to resort to shouting Master and Commander quotes at them to bring them down. Needless to say, it was amazing.

Well, as I might have stated earlier, the fact that you are now a pirate gives everything context, and now it's quite the joy to take on those monstrous battleships. At least we can shut off the singing.
