I felt the books were quite a good read, right up until mockingjay's 2nd and 3rd acts.

I actually wrote a thread on it here years ago, before the movies when no one cared, and no one replied :)

The first film didn't really do them justice, thanks mostly to a PG-13 rating and a badly miscast Donald Sutherland, but it had highlights (like the fantastic, but criminally underused performance of Lenny Kravitz as Cinna).

The third book's final parts were a horrible, messy waste of my time. It was interesting, if unpleasant, that the author took the series into such suddenly stark, depressing, brutal territory, but it was executed horribly and the characters' actions made no sense in the context of the rest of the series.

If they re-write the whole third book for the movie I won't complain.

Ok, well this is a change I can agree with. The third book was horrendously paced, and suffered massively as a result of it. With a huge rewrite and some actual character work going on amidst the plot in a double movie, this could work out all for the better.

Ooh, get you with the mis-remembered spoilers. Actually that was another one of the nerds. Jonathan got murdered by Andrew, if we *have* to spoiler it for everyone.

Of course, this being Buffy, death was no barrier to him turning up in a few more episodes after that.

PS - Captcha asking me to 'Describe Goldman Sachs'? WTF?

If it can cover Mockingjay without making the heroine a self-centered twit in a constant state of flat-affect-inducing gloom, that will be a significant achievement. An achievement not surmounted by the book, in my opinion.
Seconded. Mockingjay was fucking awful. "rarrr I iz angsty as fuck... that's pretty much it I guess.. characterization be damned, I must fill the role of tortured heroine so the author can SHOW US HOW BAD WAR IS GUIZ!!".

^Mockingjay from the perspective of a self aware Katniss.

You too, man, you can join the hate train for the third book.

You too. I will never not shut up about a decent but otherwise forgettable series turned into the authors personal soapbox for her heavy handed anti-war sentiments. Especially not if she's going to do it with about as much subtlety as beating someone over the head with a brick.
