So you're telling me he's free to go around killing noobs? Why won't anyone think of the noobs!? They're people too, you know! They didn't ask for this, they wanted that guy in prison to save themselves from his virtual onslaught, but you didn't care... L!tt13_T0mmy will never be the same again... you monsters!

Their virtual deaths are on your hands!

Now to be serious for a moment. I don't care? I just don't, it's sad that he lost his job, but he lost it by being stupid and talking about this in a freaking school. A school, a place more sacred than the airport. The cops did their jobs, the person that reported him did what was asked of them and now the guy gets the chance to sue the school for wrongful termination. A small chance considering that talking about that kind of a thing isn't conducive to a learning environment, but still a chance.

He made the mistake, he has to own up to it. This thing is blown way out of proportion, it's not at all like Koua Fong Lee who was arrested and jailed for eight years before being set free when they realised that Toyota was at fault. All charges dropped. Jason Davis wasn't sentenced to prison for the crime he was accused of. They didn't hide evidence, they didn't reject evidence that could have gotten him innocent like they did with Koua Fong Lee. They found Mr. Davis innocent during his first trial. The system works, he's not in prison being traded as currency. That's a victory if I ever did see one.

He lost his job, well maybe he didn't follow school policy... like how you're not supposed to be talking about killing people. Even if it be in a video game.

Well, he kind of asked for it. Saying that in a school setting, no matter the context, is a bad idea. But I don't support him spending a month in jail or that fact that his teaching career may be ruined because of a single comment.

Seriously? no one thought that it was a LITTLE far-fetched that a high school teacher would try to kill 500 people in reality?

And they aren't even going to rehire him, even though he was acquitted? Personally,I think students would like the teacher more because he plays video games.

Please tell me he's at least getting compensation...

It worries me that there is a criminal charge called "terroristic threatening".

America, I think you have some issues.

Why didn't this pop up during the initial investigation? Did they not question him at all about why he said what he said? Seriously he deserves a lot of compensation for tarnishing his record and losing him his job. Absolutely ridiculous!

This is the kind of thing that plagues teachers... it doesn't matter if he's innocent or guilty - he's been charged, he's as good as out. Take it from a teacher - it barely matters if something results in a conviction or even gets to court.

The sad part is, that's really going to follow him around wherever he goes. Guilty or innocent doesn't matter, once you've been charged with something you're tainted forever in the eyes of employers and the general public. Shit, a bogus simple assault charge from when I was sixteen that's been expunged from my record has still managed to haunt me for my entire life. Best of luck to him.
i have sympathy for you as well as being apprehensive myself- I got an assault charge for an act of self-defense and though its just a misdemeanor it won't be expunged until probation is over. Seeing that i wanted to go to grad school I'm wondering how this will affect my chances of getting accepted and/or getting a decent job. Expunged should mean completely erased. If you pay your dues it shouldn't haunt you, especially if its a bullshit charge.
Lol. But keep in mind how states keep records. Someone checks up on you, and they read, "This guy was charged with killing like 5 children and eating them. But then because [CENSORED FOR PRIVACY], we officially expunged it."

I guess the word "expunged" is supposed to make you forget what you just read. Like how in the 1800s they used to just paint the word "fire-proof" on wooden buildings and assumed the fire wouldn't try to test it.

The real crime is the school didn't immediately rehire him when the proper context was revealed. Now that I think about it, it's probably worse that it even got to that level. Shouldn't the school have investigated the charges before the police were called?

A month? A fucking month in jail before the hearing?
What fucktard lawyer did that poor sod have?
A lawyer can only request a bond reduction. Its up to the court to set a date for the hearing.

With an obscene number of 500 people, someone must have though "He can't be serious". *Wikis Simo Häyhä*

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Simo_H%C3%A4yh%C3%A4 THIS guy killed over 500 people over the a period of a hundred days during the finish winter.
Of course, this was during the second world war, so he had had to wait a little for a new pillbox hat to shoot (no offense to you russians out there- pillbox hats are cool), still. It took a hundred days- five kills a day, per average.

T'is impossible for a teacher to kill that many before getting turned into a cheese grater himself.

Then again, this is the US- SOME concerned parent probably took it the REALLY wrong way, and in the best interest of her/his child, reported the teacher.

Poor dude for getting fired in this economy, but he could hae been a little more careful with what he said- seeing as what happened is the knee-jerk reaction to anything that hints at violence.

He's a public school teacher so he could probably only afford a public defender.

I can't believe he actually got charged in the first place. He'll probably never have a teaching job again. Thank you paranoid parents and broken justice system!

*glories in the fact he is Canadian for a minute*

He might end up killing the kid who stole his marker for real now...

Hmm... Does anyone still wonder why gamers hesitate to talk openly about their hobbies with non-gamers?
