Hey everyone. If you've ever even heard of World Of Warcraft or tried it you know how addicting it is, and with the new exspansion out I'm having some weird dreams. My parents don't let me play W.O.W because I became too addicted to it. I'm having a cruddy time doing almost everything related to gaming. Any thoughts?
now that you have lost your addiction you can walk into WOW more confidently now knowing if you get addicted you know what to do

Meh, I used to be addicted to WoW as well, and was tempted when the thing came out. Lately I've had weird dreams too about it (completely random). But, when I listen to my friends and look at the videos I don't see much that's too interesting. More grinding, grinding, and grinding. I just relax with my friends now and play the 360 or such.

Not true. It can be an addiction. While we may need to have worked on it better and controlled it easier, it's still an addiction. That's like saying you're addicted to a certain TV show or game because it's really fun, and someone tells you "you can control your life". Which everyone has something they're addicted to. A game, toy, TV show, etc. We never said it was like drugs or such, just that it was really fun and time consuming, causing us to become addicted. Our lives are fine, thank you.

What "you people"?

I played this game a couple of years ago. I got to level 60 (cap at the time) then quit when the expansion came out. It's really not as addictive as everyone makes out. People just pretend it is so they have an excuse to keep playing it and appear slightly less lame.

You know.. I think the best part of having quit WoW about a year ago is that I have had time to play other games.. and they are games that don't have to eat up my entire life.. and that I can actually finish.

Plus, really, Blizzard keeps on destroying all the old content.. so the stuff that made the game fun for me in the beginning.. the whole big cool storyline.. really isn't there anymore.

i would strongly advise never touching wow ever again if you've quit i quit and its probably the best thing i've done in life since i started playing games having a social life is alot better than your would expect it to be. i do have to say that the expansion looks yummy yes, most of my m8's still play but its just grind and spiders cept now the grind has a icy look to it and the raids are stupidly easy so the casual players can have fun to so if you want to play wow casually you should go back but chances are you might get addicted again so i would still advise against it.

Yeah, jesus man. Man up! Buy a copy of Left 4 Dead and blast zombies. Fuck grinding your way to hell.

Think of it this way:
What has a lvl 80 WoW player actually achieved for his 100s of hours except for giving Blizzard money?

Pick something that you'll want to play for 1-2 hours and then put down. Games should be a replacement for TV, not a replacement for ANYTHING else.
it gives you an experience

So does fucking a watermelon. Doesn't mean I should spend 20 hours a week and £8 a month on it.

I can honestly say I'm glad I quit before Wrath of the Lich King. Pre-BC I was just raiding Molten Core, with some BWL and Ony thrown in. Nothing too fancy. I got into the hardcore raiding scene once TBC came out. I raided with a high end guild for a long time. It was great for a good while. Tier 5 content was actually quite hard. Taking down Lady Vashj, Kael. It was all great. Tier 6 was comparatively easy after looking back at Tier 5, but it was still fun. So I sat there in Tier 6 gear, I was proud of that of course. Granted on our server there were several other high end guilds around the same level as we were.

Oh then they nerfed everything. Vashj got nerfed, Kael got Nerfed, Sharaz got nerfed, Archimonde got nerfed, so did Illidan. All the harder fights were nerfed to the point where they were trivial. Then you had these upstart Tier 6 guilds essentially taking away what you worked so hard for. By the time Sunwell came out a vast majority of our guild has quit. Many came back to do Sunwell but the old feeling just wasn't there. Hurray we got Sunwell gear. Our guild didn't down Kil'Jaeden, our guild effectively split up and our members got diluted into other guilds.

Now at first when I skipped on Wrath I wasn't sure I had made the right choice, that is until I heard the 25th of November guild cleared what Wrath had to offer so far. They did this in what? 74 hours? That includes leveling to 80, prepairing for entry level raiding, and clearing 3 instances. Even when you consider their experience during beta, they still didn't have access to all the bosses, it's nuts. I was also generally opposed to the direction Blizzard was going with PvE class balance. They just wanted to give everything to everyone, and as a result the pure DPS classes got the shaft.

Anyways, World of WarCraft is now more about gear then anything else. Blizzard caters to those who don't give a shit about the experience and want shiny gear. Gone are the days of the gear people wore actually meaning something. I for one am glad I'm not playing WoW anymore. If I was ever to return to WoW it'd be on a casual basis. Endgame content just isn't worth it anymore.

I'm a former WoW addict myself. If you're susceptible to it, MMOGs can definitely get in your head. Just tough it out for a couple months and you'll forget all about that Talisman of Unending Rage you were jonesing for and start hanging out with you friends and loved ones again.

Although, seriously, that talisman is freakin' sweet. Easily would increase your DPS by a full 1, maybe even 1.5 percent.

WoW addicts and gamers in general are just the massively understimulated portion of the population. Bored with what "IS" and have to make more to think about. Brains bored with the world, and making work.

Video games are just the easiest, most current way to get instant acheivement and stimulation. Just work a little harder at something else. Paint models, excercise more, play sports. It sounds a little cliche but you need to find something you can get passionate about, that REALLY interests you, rather than just "fills the holes".
