Ah I used to be the same but now I'm used to it. I will say though that sometimes I get quoted and I just don't know how to respond. I feel bad for not responding but oh well.

Only time it really bugs me is if the thread has been going on for days and people (or worse, the same person) are still quoting me. There comes a point in every debate where you have to recognize that both sides are so dug in that further argument is pointless. This is doubly true for arguments on the internet. Or, if it was a legitimate mistake or omission I made and corrected later, it's annoying because people are quoting me and pointing out something I'd already pointed out myself later on in the thread, meaning they didn't read the whole thread before firing off the response.

I just get worried that I'm gonna see a "You have been banned" message just because I said something a mod or admin didn't agree with. It's happened a few times before.

Hello and welcome to why I've been on this forum 2 years and have hardly posted anything. That and I don't have anything interesting to say usually. Last time I got a message back I'm pretty sure it was in 2010 and it was a warning about something I posted, that put me off for a while.

Edit: Another reason I get anxious would be the three spelling errors in this post I just corrected.

I usually think "Oh, new message" when I see the icon. When it's only an announcement or something it kind of bums me out a little.

Since I don't get messages too often, I'm usually quite happy when I see one, even is it's a quote where someone is disagreeing with me. But it is often an information note about a badge or something. So no worries about it from my side.

I wonder how many people love me, because there's no way little ol' me could cause much controversy, right? =D

inb4 everyone quotes the OP to make him feel like the thread describes.
I love you...

Me? I love getting quoted, it means my post was read and there is an opinion of it and I can't get hard otherwise...

I'm usually pleased to see a message as it means either someone has noticed one of my posts, or something is happening in a usergroup or RP. I'm more wary however if I know I've said something controversial recently, especially if I quoted someone.

Yeah, probably been done before...When you get back on the forum, and you've got messages, what do you think?

See, I just got back on, and had three messages, all quotes. I immediately thought "Oooh shit."
Also my default reaction. Depending on the thread title.

Happy now? Dude! Where ya been?!!! Hehe!

If I get a non-quote message, I get fairly excited, but tinged with a litle bit of caution when it's not a user(name) that I recognise.

A lot of the time when I see the new message indicator, I just think:
"Great, what have I said to piss someone off now?"

I like to think I've grown out of being a twat online as I've actively worked towards being a nicer person by limiting my opinions to just that. I also don't outright insult someone who's being slap-wrist stupid without seeing if they neglect all reasoning first.

I even ignore religious arguments these days because things always get ugly, and I avoid YouTube arguments as much as possible - now getting out of that frame of mind really was hard work. :D

It's been a while since I correctly presumed I said something stupid online. I'm glad for that, though the past will likely come back to haunt me.

I'm actually somewhat similar, although I don't feel anxiety at seeing messages.
Whenever I visit this site, any time I see that I have a message I get a rush of excitement hoping it's from one of my friends. Hearing from my friends is one of the great joys in my life.

Of course when I log in and I see that I don't have a message or I see I've gotten a system message or one I wasn't looking forward to I feel a rush of disappointment and sadness.

I don't really care too much about being quoted, unless I had posted something expecting to be quoted; so far every time I have been quoted has been a pretty underwhelming experience so I'm pretty indifferent to it.

Since I maybe get one notification/message a week and it's typically from getting a personality quiz badge, any excess is appreciated.

If I somehow did manage to spark some massive debate involving not very nice words and name calling, I'd probably just sit back and watch the chaos unfold.

Hooray! People are paying attention to me!

I've always been here :D I don't post as much, but I'm still around. I haven't seen you in a while though!

Used to like it but then since I like to play devils advocate sometimes it got ridiculous with the reply's. Now I have notifications turned off. Plus i'm not a fan of not in person debate, I just can't be arsed to put forth any critical effort in a forum discussion. double negative sentence

Im trying to better communicate and being less offensive/confrontational but still get a :/ feeling when i see i got a message, i always expect peeps to quote me with passive agressive tldrs as thats how my first 2 years in the escapist was, especially for march madness and popular topics.

But working on being a better poster seems to be paying dividends, cant remember last time i got a "bad" message, having a humbler attitude has prevented potential situations happening when i said something really stupid. I remember even litterally saying once:"rest assured, i am suitably embarassed" which to my surprise got a really positive response that made me :)

Now i gotta work on having a better writing style/better communication. Way i write and tell things, especially for narrating stories or even attempts at humor come off as wooden and "off" to me, the above being an example. Itll come with time and practice hopefully...

I'm terrified every single time I see that golden envelope, yet I can't stay away. Maybe I'm an adrenaline junkie. That must be it, yeah.

Meh, most of the time it's another badge notification. I've never had someone truly flame me on this board (inb4 someone flames this post), in fact usually seconding whatever suggestion/argument I'm giving.
