When I first found the internet, there was an adults only website I frequented. Not like that. Get your minds out of the gutter. I enjoyed it there. There was a section of the site where I RP'd and a forum section I was very active on. At first it was fun, but then some really crappy role players took over who wanted to only run their specific storylines (as opposed to the more open role play we'd been doing for years) and god help you if you accidentally got into their perfectly planned out play! Shitstorms became the norm.

After I stopped RPing there, I still went to the forums because I'd made a lot of friends there over the years. But, all of us kind of stopped talking about the stuff that made it so much fun for the first few years because it got lost in the waves upon waves of people asking for good thoughts for their boss's daughter's best friend's second cousin's BFF's hangnail surgery and posting pictures of their grandkids and dogs and generally sniping anonymously (registered names aren't required there) at people who pissed them off at some point (usually over something stupid).

It became an utter cesspool of the worst of humanity, and I haven't been back in at least three years.

I stopped posting on there after my boyfriend of the time found out and started finding all my old posts on there from before I had even met him
Alright, now you have made me curious. What were you posting there? What was so bad about it? Did they have a share your fantasy section and you confessed that your secret fetish is being gangbanged by amputees while going to the toilet? You can see that I immediately took this in a fucked up direction, but why else would your boyfriend be so pissed?
Nothing that weird! Most of it was just me complaining about how I couldn't get anywhere with the guy I was in love with at the time (actually the guy I'm going out with now!), just stuff you dont want your boyfriend reading, especially when it involves major trawling...

Well, there was:
GameFAQs, where I slowed my posting rate until I stopped.
Two or three DnD-esque RP forums. One got taken down by adbots, the others died out the arse.
A wrestling forum which not only killed my interest in posting, but my interest in wrestling (for a while) due to Australian broadcasting.
And here, which I've noticed I've started to slow down because of repeat topics, or ones that lack interest...

Years back I used to follow a small gaming project, there were very few of us ever on the forums and we all had similar interests so everyone knew each other and there was practically zero trolling going on. Of course, as gaming projects often do, everything went through a management change and new members who were a lot more vocal turned up. The old members starting leaving fast as threads just degenerated into long insult filled arguments with next-to-no work getting done. It got to the point went where the project fractured into two separate games each with their own forum, neither of which seemed related to the original subject matter and prone to changing ideas every other day. I finally gave up hope that the project I followed for years would ever be completed and just left.

I still miss the old forums from the early days though, all that is lost now.

Back when I was a young boy, I discovered Nintendo's original official forums. It was my first taste of an internet gaming forum, and I loved it.

...Then they did away with all that and angered a shitton of their fans (including me). A group did form a new forum that tried to be exactly like the old forums, but it just wasn't the same, at least for me.

The Escapist is probably the first forum I've kept coming back to consistently since then. Don't see myself leaving anytime soon.

This one.

I've been here for a couple of years, and I've just grown a bit tired of it. However, the content is too good to actually warrant leaving the site, so I just mainly lurk. And, I've made one or two really good friends on here.

I liked this forum. I still do. Sadly the characters have gone. big names, funny, recognizable people. That was fun.

Phew, for a moment there I thought I was the only one. Nice to see other current/past Seventh Columnists [http://www.bungie.net/forums/topics.aspx?forumID=3] around here too!

I left for the exact same reasons as below in the quotes; though I, as I would assume so did erttheking & 3 legged goat, only went on the Halo games forums and the Flood before 343 took over the Halo games. The Flood forums and the Bungie Community forums today are significantly more friendly. Berate / over-praise a Halo game in a thread, other than for nostalgic reasons, and you'll get shouted down by B.nets true community for not being over at Halo.Xbox.com [http://halo.xbox.com/en-us] (where Halo is located now).

I've noticed I've been hanging around there more and more often in recent weeks. Seems like such a nice, small, closed community where everyone's welcome. I recently got flagged as a veteran member with 5 years under my belt :D

It's also made better by the fact that Bungie employees regularly post within threads; though mostly only trolling as they darn't speak a word even relating to a word relating to a sound that sounds anything like it could be referring to their new game, "Destiny". Overall, it's -fun- there. Though this is my main forum by a longshot. It's also quite quiet over there.

In fact, the only trolls left and the employee's themselves; but it's all in jest.

Used to be a fan of the Bungie forums, left after they got filled with people who considered anyone who wasn't a 2% Onyx with a 2.0 K/D to be bad.

Ah, BZPower, how I remember thee. Mainly because I was on you not five minutes ago. But the sad thing is, the forum appears to be in its dying days. Member numbers are lowering and most boards move slowly.

Basically this. It also has something to do with the fact that a lot of the older members who voiced their opinions on changes that happened here got banhammered or simply just up and went because they didn't like the looks of things, and I honestly can't blame them.

Well I would say "this one", but to be honest I never thought it was that great anyway. And it still has some nice people.

The FSTDT boards. Admittedly it didn't take me very long to realise I hated it, but I did like it at first.

Gamefaqs/gamespot (they share the same boards). I joined back around five years ago for .hack//g.u. And I would surf other boards and it was good. It was friendly to an extent but those were the old ps2 boards. Now every time I go into a topic it eventually devolves into a mess of troll baiting and flame wars. It makes me sick. Sometimes I wonder why I still go there and every now and then there is an amazing fun topic or a topic where I can give friendly advice. But now that I have started to post on The Escapist forums I don't see why I keep diving into that cesspool.
I think Gamefaqs has a pulling effect of once you are in, you can't come out.

I seriously hate all of the unmature, troll bating, fanboy cock waving that goes on there nowadays, but it's like a car crash you can't help but watch.

Well (like Eternalnothingness topics on here), at least the Xciteme/TwilightGavin topics on the PS3 board are worth a laugh or two, but it's by far the worst board on Gamefaqs, even the 360 board is rather tame in comparison, and the Wii board has become a little bit less hostile than it was years ago (I've never seen so much hate for a console). The PC boards aren't that much better either, and has transformed recently into the old Console vs PC's argument, though most of the posters are at least helpful, and they don't slur a load of crap like the rest of the platform boards.

The only safe haven there now is the Dreamcast board, which I check regularly as I'm a fan of the system. it's surprisingly still rather active (like the ps2 board), and has some good mature posters in it.

Well I used to be part of this guild forum in Guild Wars. As typical from a game forum, it great for arranging event and helping others. Other than that the members are boring.
I mean I made some topics like the stuff you would find in the Off Topic section on here (they had a similar off topic type of discussion) but I would get very little to no replies. It was because of this I wasn't so "attach" to the community compared to this site.
When I was about to have no internet for a month, I said my farewell and chose not to return to that forum when I was back online (well it was the fact I had competely lost interest in the game during my time without the internet.

Project Ego, the fable forum.
It was a good forum, but as soon as you said a bad word about fable II or III you would be shot down in flames
"How can you, Peter is our God, his games are untouchable"

Yeah well fable II and III suck!

Unforgotten Realms. When Rob Redisigned the site, he basically stopped wanting people to make fan art or write fan fics or make fan shows. I've move past Fan-things now, but back then, I'd only make fan-things for Unforgotten Realms, and constantly getting banned for wanting to do that was a big turn off.

Now the Unforgotten Realms Forums are basically dead.

I used to frequent the GT forums, but after I started frequenting here(and getting smacked down a few times for old habits) I started to find the discussion there quite.....lacking. It was also full of idiots and trolls to be frank. So I just shifted totally to this forum.
