Fox gave the green light for the production of the live action Cowboy Bebop movie. They have decided to cast Keanu Reeves for the role of Spike Spiegel while the other characters are still open for casting. They are also enlisting the help of the director and writer of the originl series, Shinichiro Watanabe and Keiko Nobumoto respectfully, to keep a close on this adaptation of the show. As of now, no date has been set for when the movie will come out.

What are your thoughts and opinions about this? Who would you cast for the movie?

Personally, I am worried because it FOX who is make the movie, and they have the tendency to disrespect cult icons. Hollywood also loves to force a romance into the plot somehow. Cowboy Bebop never had a romance. Sure Faye loved Spike, but it was one sided because Spike would always be in love with Julia. It was a tragic romance that I'm sure Hollywood would find someway to mess up. So I'm very tentitive about this movie.

Goddamnit, live action versions of anime never work. I can assure you this movie will be quite the disappointment.

I don't believe it's ever going to be made, sorry. Bebop isn't going to become a live-action film; it's going to be delayed over and over and over.

Oh crap. Well this isn't going to go down well. Especially considering the animated Bebop movie was great. Frankly, this reeks of a big-budget film company pissing on a great cartoon by making a live adaptation of it. It didn't work with Scooby-Doo (at least not with the critics it didn't), it hasn't worked with the Smurfs, and it REALLY didn't work with the Last Airbender.

Keanu Reeves as Spike? Seriously?

Ok, I admit they're both twats, but that's where the similarities end.

. . . Keanu fucking Reeves?

As spike!?

dude. are you trolling?

Because that is horrible.
Unfortunately, no. That's been the talk for some time now (see publication date of late 2008). Of course, it seems to have hit Development Hell again, so maybe it will never see the light of day.

No no no no no. You'd have thought the film industry would have learned their lesson from that horrible dragonball movie.

Let's all hope that development hell is the destination for this movie.

Neo as Spike.....idk about it. He was supposed to be Akira, and that got cut quick. Probably a First thought guy, but they'll probably find someone else.

Yeah, you know that this has been in talks for years now, and on the wiki page for Cowboy bebop as speculation. This will most likely go the way of akira nd fall through. Or go teh way of the Soul Calibur film which just sits in development forever while people think, hey, that would be a good idea, then get distracted with actual movies with actual potential to not suck.

EDIT:

In fact

On July 22, 2008, IF Magazine published an article on its website regarding a rumor of a live-action Cowboy Bebop movie in development by 20th Century Fox. Producer Erwin Stoff said that the film's development was in the early stages, and that they had "just signed it".[20][21] Keanu Reeves has been confirmed as playing the role of Spike Spiegel.[22][23] Variety confirmed on January 15, 2009, that the production company Sunrise Animation will be "closely involved with the development of the English language project." The site also confirmed Kenji Uchida, Shinichiro Watanabe, and series writer Keiko Nobumoto as associate producers, series producer Masahiko Minami as a production consultant, and Peter Craig as screenwriter.[24] It was originally slated for release in 2011, but problems with the budget have delayed its production. The script that was submitted was sent back for rewrite to reduce the cost and little has been heard about it since an interview with producer Joshua Long on October 15, 2010.[25]

I think you called it.

"Dammit Spike, open your eyes! Julia is dead!"

"I can only love Julia."

"Love me dammit! *flash*"

"How could I have been so blind! *kiss* I'm gonna go fight Vicious now, LAYTAZ!!"

Other than that I'm interested to see who they get to play as Ed and, Jet. This could be an alright movie.

can someone please give kargathia a cookie and the baby-seal clubbers over at fox a punch in the teeth. I'm sorry, Fox they already made a live-action "Cowboy Bebop" which I actually have respect for, you may have heard of it, it stars an unfortunately unknown actor by the Nathan Fillion and it was called FIREFLY.

Not a Cowboy Bebop fan, but I do agree.
The tropes and archetypes common in anime and manga just don't translate well to human actors, which is unfortunate.

nononononono no a thousand times no. Loved the series, loved the movie, just make another animated movie, not a live action one. Please don't piss all over my favorite anime series of all time.
