The thing is, its not like these things are like firecrackers or magazines, where they can go out in a field somewhere and play with it alone.

They are playing it on a huge plasma flatscreen tv in your front room for hours at a time.
And if youre the person you claim to be, freaking out what hes going to play....where the hell are you? Tied under the sink "i wish.....i could be free.....and see what hes playing...."

play the fucking game with him

Pay attention everyone: don't feed the media trolls.

That's all they are nowadays, they're doing this on purpose to set us off and keep their name circulating among us. I'm no longer going to read nor care about anything Fox News and their associates say or write, because otherwise THE TERRORISTS WIN

Meh, this is just a phase that all new media encounters. Television, Films, Comics; they've all been hit by unfair criticism during their first decades. This too shall pass.

If ignorance is bliss, then everyone at Fox Newbs must be REALLY happy!

Seriously, though. This whole fiasco is just a pathetic grab at attention by Fox. If someone had said "Spongebob Squarepants causes homosexuality" or "Reading Manga makes you a pedo", there would be a similar reaction from their audiences. And they're not even doing any damage; if anything, MORE people are going to buy Bulletstorm because they've heard about it and they're interested by it. So, thank you Fox Newbs! Thank you for introducing Bulletstorm to several million gamers that would not have heard about it otherwise!

One last thing: If anyone can find me anything that has a person saying "I raped him/her because I play video games" or any variation of that, I will eat my Xbox Controller.

This is why I no longer watch the news: there is no such thing as an unbiased news show some (read: FOX when talking about anything electronic, NBC when talking about anything else) are just more biased than others.
also I have to agree with him about the demo it was pretty meh

This whole situation just stinks of someone trying to further their own opinion on the coat-tails of a high profile story. Continuing to dig this grave is going to bring out more nut jobs who agree with him, and further stir this cauldron, while pressing more against his opinion to become more vocal about it.

Sadly - for those of us who think this guy is full of tripe, our voice will be drowned out by the ignorant, un-informed majority.

Let me just go on the record and say that...

"I have a child. It is my responsibility to monitor the media they take in and mandate it accordingly. It is my duty to raise a morally responsible child who understands the stark differences between reality and fantasy."

My child is my responsibility. Not the game industry. Mine.

This almost makes me want to buy it, just so that I can gift it to some kid that lives near me.

Almost.

I mean, it IS a $60 game. And I hate kids.

Because irresponsible right-wing soccer mom retards don't work like that. They have Christian levels of denial to that anything is their fault in the world.
Any Christian worth their salt (and light) would be against this article wholeheartedly. True Christians believe that the world will do as it will and they must regulate their own household as it is solely their responsibility. Real Christian parents are active in their child's life like my parents were. My mother did not allow games that were violent until she felt that I became old enough to make my own decisions. Today I play some of the more bloody games and as long as I'm not seeding hatred or having fantasies I don't see any problem with it. Duke Nukem just isn't my cup of tea that's all.

At the same time as excoriating Bulletstorm for having damaging content, Brandon seems to want to absolve parents of any responsibility for protecting their children from that content, suggesting that the developers and publishers that are at fault for making the game in the first place.
Just... yes. Fucking yes. The parents want to deny absolutely all responsibility for having to do anything in their childrens' lives except give them what they want. Anything beyond that seems alien to them.

Ugh, I hate dislike, disdain, and have no respect for these people. Take an active role in your childrens' lives, people!

In this situation, I don't know if I want to react with a classy anime fellow, or Micheal Jackson.

I will do both.

my first point is that i thought i read from an article on the escapest that game stores had an 80% turn away rate for underage gamers. (i am to lazy to post the article but i think it was relating to the supream court case) and another article stated that airports had a 30% turn away rate for illegal items. i believe that this point has been made now on to my second point.

if i were say 16 i could walk into a store and buy any book graphic, novel, movie ,music or comic book that had the same content and nobody wold care.as for his point on less barriers of buying games online, where are kids getting these credit cards are they steeling them from their parents if so then i believe you have a bigger problem than your kids playing bulitstorm.

So, Gamestop refusing to sell me a game until I show them a picture ID with my date of birth demonstrates a lack of retailers preventing "damaging" material from being accessed by underage kids, but there isn't anyone complaining about porn sites that merely have a big button that asks "are you 18?" where's the porn site employee that checks IDs?
Furthermore, where's the accountability? Why do detractors of video game media refuse to acknowledge the responsibility of parents in the upbringing of their children? Why is no one attacking companies that, say, produce alcoholic beverages, simply because a parent could leave one sitting within reach of a child? I wan't answers, damn it!

I almost always get asked to show my ID when I buy a game and when I don't (the only place this occurs is at Wal-Mart) I remind the cashier of the need to do it. Why? Because it's the tiny number of slip-ups plus all the ignorant parents who buy violent games for their kids that get blown out of proporation by the idiots at Fox.

I saw one chick buy Grand Theft Auto San Andreas for her two extremely young children today in Gamestop. The Cashier asked for her ID and read off every reason why it's rated Mature, she still bought it and it's those kinds of people who complain about how their kids are playing violent vulgar games.

Eh, I don't really think that think kind of thing is worth worrying about too much. After all, Fox New's target audience wouldn't likely play video games anyway.

God Some people must really hate video games.
I'm not sure they hate them, they just don't understand them. Yellow journalism takes what is just a normal generation gap issue, and distorts it to make people worried, so that they consume more news stories about the issue than they normally would due to this fear.

The same sort of journalism has been used on every new medium, since the printing press made that kind of mass-marketed journalism possible (and before that, among the elite, there were plenty who wrote the same kinds of scare stories about the evils of the printing press itself as a generator of a new medium)

If you took John Brandon back to the advent of mass produced newspapers, he would probably be seeking employment writing damning rants about the damage that new medium had in store for society and children.

Well you know what, I'm pretty sure there are places that sell games like this to kids. I may not really agree with this guy, but the US really should make it's classification system legally enforceable, it would be good for everyone. Less annoying 12 year olds in you favourite online game, less idiots harping on about the harmful effects of video games. It's a win/win, and if there are some kids out there who are mature enough to play a game like this then they can get there parents to buy it for them, y'know, like how it's supposed to work.
