Bah, both sides are fake news. Both have good and bad sides. The funny thing I tend to see is that the left only sees the right's news as wrong and they are fine with MSNBC and the other ilk typically if you actually watch a full evening of Fox news you will see both right and left viewpoints.

I say watch both sides but trust neither!
my personal belief is that Fox News is worse because it is entrenched in the practice of framing: adjusting stories to fit a cohesive narrative, aka bad journalism. MSNBC isn't much better, they just turn a blind eye to any news they don't like and yell a lot at the "worst people in the world", which isn't quite as bad in my book but at least as cheap and shabby. On the whole, when it comes to this boilerplate kind of stuff there's far more conservative programing of this kind in the mainstream so I don't get as heated about MSNBC.

But I'm a stinkin' liberal, so of course I'm biased. Seriously, I'm biased just like anyone else who has a viewpoint. Objectively, they are both 24hr news stations which means they can't always get the facts straight and they have to kill time with some sort of entertainment.

So I say, don't watch either of them. Get your news from the internet. The Daily Beast is an excellent daily read, HuffPo is a nice supplement.

Wait, why is nobody getting onto MSNBC? Never mind, don't answer that.
Why you ask, because we're too busy watching BBC. And im in America.
Well, if that doesn't say something then I don't know what does.

Here, in case you need more convincing that Shep isn't as bad a guy as the other Fox folks:

Well, nice to see some cognitive dissonance going on over there. Although, every news organization (ever) should follow suit. Especially the oldest ones - zombie journalists would be pretty cool.
to get technical, because it is my thread and I am allowed to be a dick like that, also because you're misusing one of my favorite terms...

cognitive dissonance is when an individual or source of information willingly holds two contradictory ideals without ever resolving their conflicting premises. like when Bill O'Reilly ambushes a private citizen on a bus with a camera crew and mocks him for not complying with his questioning, then proceeding immediately to proclaim that celebrities' privacy should be protected from tabloid reporters. yea, that's an example that was featured on the daily show early this year.

what Shep seems to be doing here is atoning for years of cognitive dissonance held by Fox News in branding itself as Fair and Balanced then mangling its stories to fit a partisan narrative. which on the surface would be very cool, except that it's fox news and my bleeding heart refuses to trust it. i really, really, really want to be able to say that I can watch Fox's news reporting and refer to it as a source of integrity in journalism, but it's so hard to do with Bill and Glenn running wild in the evenings.

speaking of zombie journalists, if I was attacked by a Zombie Edward R. Murrow, I'd bribe him with unfiltered cigarettes and keep him in my toolshed and we'd do video newscasts and I'd put them on a special blog called "zombie news with eddie the zombie dot com" where he'd report on the zombie apocalypse and he'd say "you must either sever the head, or destroy the brain. Good night, and good luck."

This was just one guy, doesn't change the fact that Fox News in general is as biased as Hell.

that is the first time I've ever seen the entire clip. I'm devided: it's poor journalism to let emotion and morals affect the debate, but Shep sure seems like a stand-up guy with real balls about him, and I whole heartedly agree with what he is saying. You know what? It's not a dream: I think I'm gonna start watching Shep Smith on Fox!

Sadly tho, I've got a big night ahead of me and I don't think I'll get a chance to check back on this thread until tomorrow morning, so talk amongst yourselves or leave comments for me to pick up later.

almost all news broadcasts are biased.

Fox just takes it to a ridiculous level.

OT, that first video did make me say 'Wooooah' like Ted Theodore Logan.

Escapists, I am freaking out. I'm having a bad trip and I'm coming down hard, having horrific hallucinations. EA pulled off a direct marketing gimmick that was not only in good taste but was actually quite hilarious? Fox News is trying to be fair and balanced (or at least to appear so)? I really hope this isn't some kind of fucked up fever dream, because I also found out today I'm graduating college and I get to see the Misfits live in town tonight. Don't tell me now that none of it's real!
I find it ironic that you're describing having a very bad trip, whilst having an avatar from Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. Or at least it looks like it's from that movie.

I haven't heard much about Shep Smith so I don't really know his reputation for news. From that video he does appear as if he's trying to appeal to both sides, but whether or not that incident will represent FOX News as a whole, I don't think so, or don't assume at least. FOX could simply be using a reporter like him simply to make it appear that they are balancing out their political status and that they are showing some integrity. But regardless of whether or not that is true (as it is just an idea), I don't think we'll be seeing O'Reilly and Beck apologising to the Democrats for their nasty words just yet.

Please call me when they fire the racists and the complete hypocrites (people like Rush Limbaugh).
One: Rush Limbaugh is not a racist. Two: he doesn't work for Fox News, so great job there.

How about instead we fire the anchors at other stations who kept repeating racist quotes who were attributed to Limbaugh but turned out to be outright fabrications? Networks like MSNBC (which is far more biased than Fox News) barely acknowledged their mistake and didn't even issue an apology.

You know why everyone really hates Fox News even though they're just as slanted as the other networks? It's because they lean right instead of left. Now who are the hypocrites?
1. I didn't say he was (although I wouldn't be surprised)
2. I thought for a second "does he work there or somewhere else?" and then realized it didn't matter as I was using him as an example of the particular type of hypocrite I was thinking of
