Fox News, railing against a video game?! I think I have the proper repsonse here SOMEWHERE...

Now, if you told me that a newscaster on Fox News suddenly cannibalized everyone in the broadcast booth, then maybe I'd give a shit.

oh wow thank you Fox, your white washed republican agenda has saved me! for i am a simple Woman who is so impressionable i'd want to become a hooker just by watching it in a video game. its therefore harmeful to me, oh no!

does Fox think the world is braindead or something, to the extent that Duke Nukem has had the same humour for YEARS and now thinks its offenseive just because a new game is out?

"The game will be available in stores and online, where customers must click a button stating they are 17 years of age or older -- the only barrier to children buying such a game.

The ESRB argues that its ratings effectively allow consumers to self-police: If you find that sort of thing offensive, simply don't let your kids buy the game"

what do you want from us Fox, WHAT DO YOU WANT!?

The new iteration of the game, set for release this spring, takes sexism to a new level -- starting with Duke receiving implied oral sex from twins in school uniforms.

It's so tiring how movies and TV can show strippers and prostitutes in all kinds of circumstances, but videogames can not...

And then comes all the yapping about how videogames are interactive and when you DO something your more likely to repeat it than if you watch something. I don't buy it.
I know there are a bunch of kids that will be playing this game who will go out and probably rape a bunch of people and yet the hours of unsupervised time on the computer where they are watching porn isn't going to be a factor in that at all.
/sarcasm

Seriously Fox no one gives a shit about what you think yeah sure people find it offensive but how about you go and try and stop the objectification of women in EVERYTHING and not just go and say a game that is MEANT to do that as offensive.

Man, I'm sorry, but in the real world, Barack Obama is central in politics. I know over there you guys think he's extremely left wing and shit, but he's not. Compared to European politics, he's still centre-right (bare in mind that Euro politics are considered the world leaders).

I have to apologise, because it wasn't my place to start a political discussion, especially in this thread, but I felt the need to say something. Fox is famously bad, all over the world it's known for being bad, but protecting it for "not being over liberal" is, well, misplaced.

EDITED-I'm tired, made mistakes
Holy shit, you think Obama is centrist? I'm not defending Fox News, I'm aware of their conservative leanings. But c'mon, how is Obama a centrist?

Actually why am I arguing with you? If you think Obama is a centrist, clearly you are uninformed or grossly misinformed.
You know what? I'm not even going to rise to you. If you had even the slightest awareness of what goes on outside your own borders you would realise what I'm saying is correct. Have fun living in your isolated perspective.

I swear to god, when I rule the world, I am going to destroy Fox News and everyone who positively associates with it. That should knock my blood pressure back down.
I thought you liberal types touted your professionalism and your acceptance of other viewpoints? Chill out.

That article showed viewpoints from the ESRB and the womens rights groups as well as the developers. It was a fine article that showed how parents could responsibly watch what their children get their hands on. I myself cannot understand why parents cant understand the rating system. Then again I grew up reading it.
Whoever said I was liberal? Then again, whoever said I was conservative. I really am starting to hate organized government. Anarchy all the way!

Okay, I will admit that maybe my comment was a bit extreme, but Fox in general has a habit of twisting facts to suit their own viewpoints, which doesn't sit well with me. Granted, they didn't do it as much (if at all) is this particular article, but they have a pretty bad track record of doing so. Remember the "sexbox" thing they pulled? Or this crap they put out [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/107628-Fox-News-Says-Bulletstorm-Could-Make-You-a-Rapist]?

One balanced article does not make up for years of misinformation and outright bias.

QUICK QUICK SOMEONE GIVE A SHIT

Ahem, sorry.

Anyway, this was inevitable. Fox News were always going to latch onto this. Myself, I just see it as a big parody of chauvanism.

EDIT: They seriously censored a stripper's bum? How prudish are they?
I can only imagine you must be from the UK or some other nation that's actually MATURE. Think about this, the article actually claims that the Duke Nukem franchise has gotten MORE sexist . . . not only is that not true, but they're stating that the sexist aspects that are old in this game are somehow more offensive now then they were in the 90s . . . Fox has more than dropped the ball this time. They've dropped the entire stadium.

As for the censoring, it's considered wrong by the FCC and any other censorship group to allow nudity to be seen by general audiances. Meaning if it's on cable or on "family" oriented sites it can't show any kind of nudity. That means even a strippers ass (without proper angles to see anything . . . shall we say . . . exploitable) is not allowed. It's frustrating and backwards but that's the nation we live in.

Also, they seem to have forgotten that not only is it lying to claim that a button stating "I am 17 or older" is the ONLY barrier keeping kids from (as they said in their article) "buying and playing" this game, the game stores as well as most parents are INCREASINGLY aware of what the rating means and how to judge what their kids should play.

The idea that parents would genuinely let their underaged kids play Duke Nukem Forever is purely blind and idiotic the same as the people claimed Mass Effect was a Porn Sim . . . remember that? look it up, it's there.

One last thing before I start twitching and rant untill next week. I mean hell, I'm almost 25 and I'm pretty sure if they found out about it my parents wouldn't let ME play this damned game . . . really . . . dammit fox . . . you USED to be a worth while news sourse, now you're no less bullshit than CNN or any other enws channel . . . looks like tv is all but gone for me except for adult swim.

I'm aware of what's going on in the world. But I also think one should have one's own house in order before he worries about his neighbors.
I don't disagree, but a certain awareness should be expected. I used to live in America, and while you guys are easily the least aware of global events out of any place I've visited or lived in, that's due to your media, and as we were talking about media, I kinda got the impression that people on this thread were on the same page of "media is bullshit, if I need to know something I have to look it up for myself". Compared to every other western country, bar maybe Australia, Obama is centre, maybe centre-right, depending on where you are. Compared to the UK, and western Europe, there are nearly no left wing politicians in America, none that ever stand a chance of winning.

The assumption is my fault, I shouldn't be such an optimist in the future.

The game's 1996 precursor Duke Nukem 3D -- which sold 3.5 million copies, made millions for its developers and transformed the entire world of video games
BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!! Duke Nukem 3D transformed the entire world of video games? That's a fantastic joke! Duke Nukem 3D was just Doom with slightly less fun gameplay and a lot more one liners. Duke Nukem 3D didn't transform anything.

Thanks for the laughs, Fox News.
Well Duke Nukem 3D did introduce the idea of gameplay pacing to FPSes. The idea that the game shouldn't be all action all the time and have puzzles peppered throughout to keep things from being monotonous. Most people thought Half-Life started this, but really it only took Duke's idea and used it in a linear game.

As for FOX, I blame OXM for having unclear language. You spank the babe, you don't slap her.

I love how they say "Duke Nukem 3D depicts women as strippers and prostitutes."

Because there aren't any strippers or prositutes in real life? And how was this depicting ALL women? I'm just waiting for the day the media relizes this stuff affects close to one man living in his shed. The devs themsleves even said "If you find it offensive, don't let your kids buy it." Gearbox knows how to make this a non issue, why don't parents?

I believe Penny Arcade said it best with this comic. Sorry its in link form, I have no idea how to embed stuff from their site.

That is awesome. Penny Arcade is always useful in these situations.

Also, the time old "Kids, it's fine to mass murder people as long as they are middle-eastern or other people we don't like in video games with extremely graphic and nearing-realistic visuals/effects, but show us ONE implied side-boob or a bare bum and it's the damned CATACLYSMIC APOCALYPSE OF OUR AGE IN PIXEL FORM!" seems to be once again relevant here. Always amusing, no less.

Duke Nukem is pretty much a no-brainer parody of hyper-chauvinism in video game form. I never take a thing in that series seriously. Who wou- Oh, right.. -_-

Edit: Also;

Following the what-were-they-thinking response shared across the gaming community
Translation from gamers (really): "What were they (Fox News) thinking with this again, exactly? Wait, we said what now? Huh, funny.."

Wait, so Fox News is trying to create controversy for a video game? With Duke Nukem being released internationally before the US, I thought something was wrong with the universe.

Turns out it was just a false alarm.

Oh yeah, and that you have to have a method of payment... Why do Fox news/The Sun/any Murdochite fascist idiot media even exist? I've never met anyone who seriously watches or reads any of these uber right wing twat factories.
