My favorite part is when he says what "At the end of the day parents don't know what's in these video games...". Why the hell wouldn't they know? They are PARENTS! Also why is it that they think only 5 year olds play games in every video game story they do?

Fox News: Fox's #1 comedy.
They should make it into a boxset
Fox's stupidest moments
And just include whatever shit they've said about video games, an apology note and preferably a cookie

Also why get someone from the RADIO to talk about this?
Get a qualified professional asshats

Hey! My grandfather was killed by a virtual polar bear. We have a right to be scared.

...What? I mean... What?

You guys might all be saying "don't pay attention to this shit, it doesn't matter," but A LOT OF PEOPLE WATCH THIS STUFF AND TAKE IT VERY SERIOUSLY. A lot of people that I know...

I'm a liberal, environmentalist gamer... It's like they made a horrible video with and insulting toad man running his toad mouth just to make me cry...

WHY, GOD!? WHY!?

However, the kicker this time is that they're demonizing, "Green Games". These are games that promote eco-awareness, recycling and less dependence on oil. Which is frankly like trying to paint the person who volunteers at the homeless shelter as a witch.

It gets better, the men then accuse these games of stiring hysteria and "scare-tactics" to push the "liberal agenda". Oh Fox, your hypocrisy never ceases to astound me.
Oh Fox. Where were you when the Lorax was giving me nightmares as a child?

Dr. Seuss was more environmentally terrifying than any modern "green game" I can think of.

Y'know much as I hate Fox, and can't really condone there actions i always hate it when people feel that there is no such thing as "Liberal Bias."
I really hate the green movement as we tend to focus on the hysteria as opposed to the science, Al Gore is not a scientist, he is often wrong and has proven time and again that he does not understand the subject matter that he has covered. HOWEVER I have never seen someone rationally debate him.
The amount of people I meet on a monthly basis who are of the opinion that "i watched Food Inc. and now know everything there is to know about the biotec industry" is baffling, and i see these games as doing exactly that, teaching bad and biased science in order to sway people to there cause.
Of course fox was nice and didn't INCLUDE any of the specifics. Although I do agree that any time i see a social cause that someone is profiting off of i HAVE to question there credibility.

Recycling a reaction I left elsewhere, because it's the green thing to do:

It?s fantastic that of all the games out there to accuse of going all fringe environmentalist, they chose SimCity Societies. Those dreadful environmentally friendly windmills and solar power plants? They come equipped with a great big stonking BP logo.

BP wanted to greenwash their image, and EA wanted... Well EA wanted lots and lots of money. It?s unlike their usual selfless ways, I know, I was as shocked as anyone when I heard, honest.

So yeah, make sure your kids don?t get lured to the dark side by that most dangerous of forces in the environmental movement: the oil industry.

Nuclear is the most safe form of energy out there? Chernobyl anyone? When was the last time a wind farm caused nuclear fallout resulting in cancers being prevolant amungst children?
This is a stupid argument, wind farms don't cause nuclear fallout, everyone knows that. Of course what they DON'T know is that wind farms kill people every year, usually due to poor regulations on the basis that they are "safe," and statistically they are. However Blade and structural failure continues to be a serious problem and most people installing commercial grade wind farms are finding manufacturing standards lax and that this can have fatal consequences. There are also instances of ice being thrown from high speed blades causing property damage, injuries and death. Now while these may only add up to somewhere around 100 documented deaths when you consider the relatively large slice of the world that uses nuclear power and the relatively small you can easily make an argument why it would be safer. You could also make the argument that hot water kills more Americans each year than nuclear power or i could throw your argument back at you and say "Wind power is the most safe form of energy out there? When was the last time a nuclear power plant caused ice to fly off its blades and kill someone."
I'm aware they are a news organization and you are just a commentator on some forums, but If you want to judge Fox news at least have the decency to do better than them.

While I support most of the environmental movement (recycling isn't green most of the time, but good luck getting any rational discussion about the topic), I really can't see much harm in Fox News' piece.

They are only preaching to their own choir, with little to no reach into demographics which might either play those games or be open supporting environmentalist causes. The kind of people who are moved by Fox News are -not- going to enter in any meaningful discussion about this kind of topic. They're already committed dogmatists. They're doing what most people do, which is engaging in rampant confirmation bias.

I don't believe any moderates who could be influenced by the green movement would be moved by Fox's programs, and if anything this kind of silly attack makes their position just look insipid. Frankly, I'd show more people this report. There's no better way to expose terrible arguments than simply let their proponents run their mouths.

By the way, Fate of the World is on Steam and is super cheap. Much of it is based on good environmental science (not the organic food stuff, but I'll take what I can get regarding educational games). It may be worth a few dollars. Decent challenge for those who aren't, you know, five.

Of course they were going to be against it. Fox is a right wing news network. They're never going to promote something which discourages the use of oil, whether it's morally justifiable or not.

Ladies and gentlemen of the jury, I move that we burn down Fox News with torches and pitchforks, ironically not in a violent groove 'learned' in video games...but from Mary Shelley's Frankenstein!

EDIT: Or, we could shower Fox News in an Anvil Chorus, via cartoon violence.

Yes, absolutely. This is not only true, but it obscures real scientific debate. There is a serious problem with confirmation bias on both sides of the issues of environmentalism, animal rights, and so forth. Rational discussion is often very difficult with those who are against the green movement or animal rights, but just as often those on the "scientific" side of the green movement will engage in No True Scotsman attacks should you deviate from their agenda. And, surprisingly, confronting them -with- science, in all its questioning, complex, speculative beauty will not work any better on them.

Don't believe in big pharma, big aggro conspiracies? You clearly drank the Kool-Aid, even if you bring up true and accurate practices these companies engage in which disturb you. Note environmental models predict recycling may not be a magic bullet and may be harmful in some cases? Clearly a lunatic, even when your sources are environmental groups, university studies, and government reports. Blah. Nauseating. No, being on the "green" side does not mean you necessarily know more than those you attack.

ah well fox news is trying to beat onion news again.
Fucking win! I know it's fake but I say we all petition so we can actually get that Dragon Tank made!
(Aslong as it's not as weak as the boss from Chrono Trigger)

OT: Well to be fair, games can still go on about being less dependent on oil and still be fucking awesome, Just Cause 2 for my only example.
But really, it's Fox News. What do you expect?

I just don't care anymore. However I will rant.

Let them squawk about whatever they want. If people are stupid enough to believe them, that's their own fault. They tear on everything so I think most people by now realize they're just full of shit about everything. I mean, do we gamers take them seriously when they ramble on about other topics? No, because we know they're full of shit about games so they're probably full of shit about those other topics. I'd like to think the people who know the truth about other topics realize this and don't take them seriously when they talk about games.
