First off if you don't know what happened i'll explain. Yesterday there was a soccer (or football) match between France and Ireland. In the dying minutes of the match France's captain Thierry Henry illegally handled the ball and essentially won the game because France scored because of it. The referee didn't see this and awarded them the goal and France went through.

I feel this is totally unfair and FIFA will most likely not let them have a replay. Everyone's been talking about it in my school.

If you want to see the actual foul here's a link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=prjSvvCfZe4
As you can see Thierry Henry CLEARLY and intentionally hit the ball with his hand but the referee's word is final and FIFA will not change their minds.

What do you think about it?

Harsh break for Ireland.
I sort of wanted to have Ireland at a World Cup...
Ah well, The Euros are up next for them.

A step closer to video replays? I hope so, is it just me or have the refs completely failed lately? I saw a beach ball score a goal a few weeks ago, and yesterday I got to see the "Hand of God" set another one up.

Keeps things entertaining though...

Oh Christ, school is gonna be fun tomorrow.
All I can think is... IT'S FOOTBALL! it's a bunch of over-paid men kicking a ball around.
At least he didn't murder anyone.

Yeah, but that beach ball had skill.
I hear Manchester City are gonna sign it from the fan for £35,000,000.

BA-ZING!

It's not like Ireland would have won the world cup anyway to be fair...

I'm supporting...Umm... Uzbekistan this time! Woo! Uzbekistan you rule!

If it's not perfectly obvious I couldn't care less who wins, people shouldn't care so much about things that actually don't affect them directly. It'd save a lot of broken glasses in pubs... It's really hard to drink from a broken glass...

everyone is acting as if france planned this out and everything. Henry acted for whatever reason (presumably to score), and france scored because of it. Obviously its a bullshit move, but in all honesty its the referee's fault. how can you miss it?

Anyway, it sucks, but I'm sure everyone will have fun bitching about it for the next couple of weeks.

I would have been amused if Platini's "officials on goaline" idea had been implemented here...
He may have been lynched

But on the subject, it's football. This stuff happens, the referee was very good in the game. Unfortunate he missed this incident. Although Ireland should have won the game before that anyway.
I mean, come one, Scotland beat them twice. And we are total shite..

Edit: Was at my (Irish) family's earlier. They were most definitely not amused, though also pessimistic about the repercussions. I think the most Ireland can hope for is a 1 game ban for Henry.
It is a shame how it happened, and I find it hard to blame anyone - even Henry. He was acting on instinct, not personal judgement. Here's hoping Ireland (and Scotland) are able kick arse in Poland and Ukraine
