Franchises that got out of hand

Pokemon, there's just no inspiration there anymore, the new game looks lovely, but 650 pokemon is just too much.

Star Trek films The last 2 were rubbish. Insurrection was doable.

Apple products Minimal hardware updates on glorified iPods. Example, an iPod that can call people and an iPod that does NOT fit in your pocket or purse anymore. Also Apple desktops can't do anything a real PC can't do, so the XXL pricetag is theft (unwinnable platform war, no need to refute me)

I don't get why people think pokemon is getting to be "too much" As antwerp said, the game itself still looks lovely. No one is making you get all the pokemon at gunpoint, in fact the only incentive is a virtual piece of paper that serves no purpose.

It's the same reason I agree with yahtzee on pokemon 100%-ers being insane, but disagree with his notion that pokemon caters to that.

Pokemon is not trying to force you to stuff 600+ monsters into a computer, it's just giving you a bigger selection and more variety.

It's kind of like saying painters should stop mixing colors; we have enough already; it's too much.

So what franchises (book, film, game, whatever) do you think got out of hand and should have been stopped ages ago.

I'd say Saw. 7 films, a maze, a ride, eventually 6 games, and an apparent 8th film. Jesus Christ!

There's a ride? wow, this has gotten out of hand.

I'd say FF. Really there's alot and you cant hope to limit them wihtout sounding biased.

Dune for sure, the fist book was amazing and the next two were ok but as soon as it got to God Emperor Dune it was completely out of hand and none of the characters were anyone I could relate to.

Even Wheel of Time still kept the same characters and ideas so that I still related to them after all those books.

Some of the newer Dune books like The Butlerian Jihad and the various House books were just fine but the old series really should have just stopped at Children.

Game challenges the very concept of religion. People regard it as silly.

Don't get me wrong, I love story, but damn they could've and should've made that fight so much more epic. As it were, it's you conversing with an old man as you punch each other. All it needed was some music.

There are times when "more epic" is most definitely what isn't needed.

It throws out all the bullshit, the power games and whatnot, and focuses on what they are: two men - nothing more - who are in way over their fucking heads.

After the amazing first film they went on to make a tv series, and three piss poor sequels.

Now their's going to be another one.

Like Brandon Lee, can we just put this franchise to rest?

Also, the amount of Highlander sequels, and spin-off's is ridiculous (their's even a anime), please just let it die already.
