Franchises that would make ideal Telltale episodic adventure game.

Considering their games are more like playing through a tv episode, honestly pretty much anything is ideal for their format.

About the only thing I can say I'd like them to change is to actually play through their stuff before shipping it off(I don't know how many times I've had to restart because of that damn "no choice here" bug, it's annoying as all hell and a gigantic sequence breaker), and to actually have consequences that make you no longer able to progress instead. Because at the moment you can just bumble through it and get pretty much the same events happening.

As others have pointed out, just about anything can hypothetically be turned into a Telltale game.

That said, focusing on franchises where relationships and puzzle-centric game play is at the forefront and action/gee-whiz effects are not, and aiming for maximum popularity, I'd say your best bets would be...

1) Something set in the Potter universe, most probably at Hogwarts. A new student having their own crazy adventure, with their own best friends.
I think you're looking for Magical Diary with this one...

Also with the GoT one, basically they circa 2000 40k'd it. It's dark for the sake of being dark and somehow makes some of the worst sequences in the show look amazing in comparison. Also their game's engine is starting to show its age and had alot of bugginess to it that was somehow more pronounced than other titles. But this is all just me tuning in and out of a stream playing through it. No first-hand knowledge really.

As others have said, it seems like literally anything can work as a Telltale adventure game. So here are the two that I would want to see above all;

Discworld and The Dresden Files. Discworld is pretty popular so I'll only explain The Dresden Files. Harry Dresden is a Wizard who works with the Chicago Police Department. Magic, Vampires, Demons, Eldritch Horrors, all of these things are real but most people are unable to really perceive them. The first book, Storm Front, is essentially broken up into a couple of mysteries; What is this mysterious new drug on the streets? How have (these people) been murdered while they were locked in their rooms and, what is this woman's husband up to when he's not at home or working? While it would be nice to play through the books, I would rather like to see new, original cases for Harry Dresden to work on.

Not sure who thought that GoT would make for an enjoyable adventure game. I mean, basically what GoT does it it builds up characters to then torture and kill them and destroy everything they worked for :)

Borderlands however is mainly character based. With a strong sense of style and a lot of attitude. Pretty good basis to build on.

I would like to see Bayonetta. What a blank canvas that is. And what an opportunity to explore that intriguing universe of Umbra witches an Lumen sages :)

Also, God of War. I know. What else is there to tell you might say. But stepping away from the action, slowing it down and really going deep on him could be super interesting!

PS - I thought the Game of Thrones one was reasonably well received? Did it start falling apart in later chapters? I've not played it yet, I'd planned to get it when the price dropped low/it was complete. Without spoilers, can anyone tell me what the problems are?
Well opinion on it was fairly mixed for the first 4 episodes, then episode 5 came out and was absolute shit, which is pretty bad for a game that already had mixed opinions, it's easily the worst thing Telltale has done since they changed to their new style with Walking Dead though and some people really hate Walking Dead Season 2, so I guess that's saying something.

Yeah, Minecraft proved that they'll basically turn anything into an episodic adventure game, but the one I'd like to see the most is Doctor Who. Big Doctor Who fan, here. If you play as an OC companion to one of the Doctor incarnations, that'd be even better.

Surprised to see so much hate for the GoT game. I enjoyed it so far, but considering the majority of the GoT games out there have been crap, my expectations going in weren't considerably high to begin with.

How about they come up with more original stuff on their own instead of making over hyped fan fiction of franchises.

2. Fringe: One of my all-time favorites. It's a great sci-fi mystery show that is basically the X-Files of the late-00s and early new 10s, one key difference being that unlike the X-Files it ended before it could begin to suck. It had great characters, solid drama, amazing universe and concepts to play around with. I definitely believe that its police procedural mystery elements would translate perfectly into an adventure game format. It could be a great opportunity to answer the one or two remaining unanswered questions that the series just couldn't find the time to answer.
Nice to meet another Fringe fan. Yeah, a TT game set during the either season 2 or 3 would be pretty interesting, especially if it allowed more interplay between the characters in both universes, which I thought was the best part of the show.

To those of you in the thread saying Doctor Who, you are 100% correct. It should, nay, must happen. It's the best way of presenting a Doctor type character in a video game format that I can think of, except for perhaps a beat em up starring Pertwee.

Seeing what they can do with sci-fi comedy and incredibly black humor in Tales from the Borderlands, coupled with their work with Adult Swim in Poker Night 2 makes one choice plainly obvious to me.

Rick and Morty. It would be a perfect fit.

Telltale seem to be able to strike gold regardless of which IP they're using, but what I really want is Wolf Among Us Season 2.

I'd like to see them try something set in Garth Nix's Old Kingdom series. Probably during the Interregnum before the first book, you can have all kinds of interesting stuff happening then

Discworld and The Dresden Files. .
I really like telltale and they usually are good writers (great by the low standards of the video game industry), but I don't think they could handle the Discworld, the characters are just too emotionally attached to Pratchett for anyone else other than some kind of magician to write properly.

That said, new characters set in the universe, now that could be interesting ... But I don't want anyone going near the major ones.

Also the Dresden files is a great shout, I think it would be really good to use the short story format mixed in wiht an overarching plot.

I personally would like to see a South Park episodic adventure game, it would be pretty easy to integrate the show's art style into that kind of game, especially if you consider how well Stick of Truth turned out using it, and the show's unpredictable nature can make certain choices you make all the more interesting as you'd sometimes have no idea what the results of you choices will be.
That sounds perfect and I would love to see it but I'm also 100% sure we'll never see it since that would require Telltale games to use a different engine or modify their engine.
I like the idea behind their games and I almost never complain about graphics in games but more and more their engine is showing its age and I think it's limiting their story-telling potential and design potential.
I would love to see a South Park TT game and the jokes alone would guarantee multiple playthroughs for me (which I've never done in a TT game) but I just don't see it happening until they're willing to update and modify the engine a bit.

If they could update their engine I wouldn't mind them making an episodic MGS since it looks like Konami is done with videogames and are just going to make pachinko machines like:
http://kotaku.com/konamis-new-initiative-erotic-castlevania-pachinko-1721123227

Or make some Kojima Snatcher or Policenauts Taletale games which would work better in the small room, small environments required by TT current engine.

Also, an episodic game might help Kojima cut down on the overly long ass cutscenes, but either way the TT stucture might suit him better since they are story based games with crazy characters and situations.

2) Something set in the Warcraft Universe. Blizzard wanted to do their own adventure game there, before deciding it landed too far outside their bailiwick. They might be tempted to let someone else have a go.
3) Some kind of crime/police serial, possibly tied into any one of a number of popular television shows. Those tend to have huge audiences, and the medium suits it well.
They did Law and Order and CSI. They were shit. Could probably work now since they can hire more writers.

OT: Simpsons. It can and will work.
