Morrowind. It is so much better than Oblivion, especially with mods. Right now I am playing as an NPC. No fighting or looting, unless I am attacked. No exploring either. I just chop down trees to make into furniture. Yeah, sounds boring, and it is now and then, but I am going to work my way up the ladder. Get rich the NPC way :D

Red Faction Guerrilla is also awesome. And most games you others have mentioned really.

Mount & Blade is a free roaming game, fuck what anyone else thinks...

As for my vote, Freelancer was the most epic free-roaming game ever, and it was in motherfucking SPACE!!! Fuck your Eve Online shit, Freelancer was the father of space adventure (which would make Elite and Privateer the great-great granddaddies).

Do you know what a free-roaming game is?
I do, and Mount&Blade is an excellent example.

Freelancer is truly one of the greats, I didnt stop playing that for ages.

However, alot of you will probably know by now that my vote goes to Morrowind. I can't be bothered to explain why for the millionth time, just play it.

San Andreas was probably one of the best. GTA IV is also worth a mention, but there's nothing to do in the city... Strange.

I wonder if there will be a San Andreas Stories out sometime. That would be pretty awesome on the PSP.

Based on sheer hours played not on specific missions: Crackdown probably wins.

Followed by GTA Vice City - because nothing beats riding around on bikes shooting fools.

you gotta love things like spiderman 2 and the incredible hulk games... they were just awesome... sandbox games do become a lot more fun when you can climb pretty much every building... so add prototype, crackdown and infamous to that list...

Saint's Row 2, I can goof off in Stilwater for hours and accomplish nothing.

Next is Fallout 3 because I can plough through every inch of map looking for every last item in every last power station, activate every single radio tower, find all the little nooks the Communists were hiding in to spy on the US etc., and never get tired of it.

Crackdown was ok once you build up your skills, but I got bored with it pretty fast. I could only really enjoy it in short bursts. GTAIV I played purely for missions/story, I didn't feel compelled to mess around like I had in previous GTA games.
