I remember reading an article on the net some time ago, about a supposed sex-robot. Now, it was not an actual robot obviously, more like a more advanced version of one of those RealDolls, or whatever they're called, but it got me thinking. I think it's reasonable to assume some time in the future well be able to make robots.
Now, IF we could make robots or androids that resemble humans so closely that they are basically indistinguishable, do you think we should make robots for sex? They would be sort of like really fancy sex toys.
I think i would be ok with this. And if the sex could be made to be like regular sex, i think i would get one too. If you're a guy, would you?

But there's more. I kept thinking about it... The way i see it, yes, both men and women want sex, but in general, i think that overall, men are the ones that have to strugle harder to get it. I mean, i think a relationship, especially a quality one is about equally hard for both women and men to get, but when it comes to JUST sex, women have a much easier time, as long as they are not hideous or mutilated or something. Now, suppose in this version of the future, these sexbots would be made, and they would be reasonably affordable (say, one half or third of the cost of a car, or less) and available around the world. Men would finally be able to get all the sex they ever wanted.
How would that change the world? Would men lose interest in sex after a while. I know there are people that jokingly say that they're bored of sex because of porn. Would hot, steamy android sexy-time make guys bored with sex?
Or on the contrary, they would love it so much that they wouldn't be interested in real flesh&blood women anymore? Would they lose respect for women, would they stop seeing them as humans? Or would they be able to interact better with women, because the sexual tension would be gone?
Would rape go away? I don't think it would. And i don't think all men would lose interest in women. The ones that want a familly would still marry (or whatever such institution exists at the time), but i do think that it would reduce the number of guys that want a girlfriend. After all, if all you want is sex, it's better to just get a sex bot than to bother with a girlfriend, or to make a fool of yourself night after night in clubs in the hopes of a one night stand. Oh, and it's also safer than going to a prostitute.
Speaking of which, how much would prostitution decrease as a result? How much would STDs decrease as a result?

And would women want a robo-boyfriend? Or, actually not a robo-boyfriend, because i'm not sure how good the robots wouldd be at simulating complex feelings and emotions. I guess a male sex-robot would just be kind of like a fancier vibrator to women. But how many of them would want something like this? If you're a girl would you buy such a thing?

I think something like this would affect human-relationships, but it's hard to figure out how. Maybe it would make people that are afraid of asking someone out into real shut-ins. Maybe they would just get a sex-robot and never get a girlfriend or boyfriend because it's just easier that way. Maybe it would help them get one, because once you have sex, some of the stress and tension and anxiety is gone...

I feel that nothing much would really change while the robots are just realistic looking/moving sex dolls, there's some pretty realistic ones already and they don't seem to change much. However when they make robots that look, sound, feel, act and perhaps even think like humans, including everything to do with sex, then they might very well start being a commonplace replacement for human-human relationships.

Wait what? They exist? Why haven't i heard of this? I want one now!

OT: i would totally buy one . Forget trying to convince ladies to sleep with me, i'm going to have sex with my lovely android that never says no and more than likely is better at it.

Putting aside that the sound of machine parts in action during sex would be distracting... I opt to start a new form of gambling sport which involves a man sex-bot and a woman sex bot. Which one gives out first? Place your bets!

They don't even look that realistic if you ask me. Uncanny Valley all the way.

That's why I said pretty realistic. They're kind of but not completely realistic, and just about anything short of that falls in the uncanny valley.

I can't post images here but wow, some of those inflatable sex dolls are incredibly realistic.

50 bucks on the male giving out first.

As any guy whose ever received a kick to balls will attest having all that stuff on the outside was not done for protective purposes. Jamming it into something metal for hours on end and it's likely to break off.

I mean ladies bleed from that place on a monthly basis without constantly screaming in sheer, utter and complete terror. And this one is a robot!

It's not a fair competition I'd say...

Man sex-bots probably won't have the same weaknesses as real man parts. Therefore...

*Slaps down a fifty*

You're on!

Now, all we have to do is wait however long it takes to build them...

Well it's the only way I'll ever get laid so I'm all for it. I'd even be in a relationship with it because it's the only relationship I'll ever be in. I'd even take it for dinner and to the movies and all that.

this is for all intents and purposes a piston and a cylinder. im going to safely assume that the man-bot doesnt operate at 1500(ish) RPM which is roughly idle of an average engine. you can idle an engine for ages (provided you have a constant supply of fuel) without it giving up. youre probably correct but i reckon youll be waiting a while for your 50 (after youve waited for it to be built)

Sure, for the reason that when I say I don't need a woman to satisfy my sexual desires, I will point to my sex-bot (who I will call EDI) and flipping mean it!

I mean, sure, in countries with dropping birthrates such as Japan, would probably be worse off with mass production of sex-bots, though I also believe they will be the ones introducing us to the bots. Aside from that insignificant negative, yeah I'll buy one.

Yeah, I imagine there'll be robosexuals. The robots might be used as sex toys between humans, too. People who society shuns will be the largest market targeted, but it'll likely be like that episode where Fry dates a Lucy Liu-bot. Including the anti-robosexuality PSA, and prolly some religious people screaming that it's wrong.

Sex, and the pursuit of it has been the root of more than a few creations.

I doubt it'll replace human contact enough to replace someone in a relationship for the most part.

Yep... There would be NO WAY I would not half-ass that kind of an opportunity at having some sort of a relationship... even if the other girls would say that it's all based on lies or the sex-bot is only using me to "get some D"... (They're just jealous, that's all... LOL)

OT: Well, it's "bad" enough having the media shoe-horn what it means to show "true" beauty... Now, we would have these so-called "sex-bots" (I forgot what the full term they'll use during that time, but I'm pretty sure most people would not call them that straight off the bat...) looking all hot and sexy to the point that finding your special someone would lead to finding someone who looks more like your "sex-bot", since they show the essence of "true" beauty...

Well, now I just depressed myself... and I feel a wee-bit horny thinking about "sex-bots"... I now need a "sex-bot" of my own to release all of my sexual frustrations so that I can think more positive again... But, then again, the whole thought process to my response lead to myself feeling depress...

...

The old anime Bubblegum Crisis and AD Police Files actually explored some of these ideas, along with the notion that if the robots became advanced enough the complexities of socio-sexual interaction would probably drive some of them crazy, and that some of them might have sufficient consciousness to dislike the role they were created for.

When speculating about things like this I'm reminded of something I heard the science fiction/fantasy author Poul Anderson say once, "When the firs automobile was invented, smart people knew it would revolutionize travel. Very smart people may have been able to predict that it would change the way roads were made. A true genius might have foreseen the web of highways that now connects the whole continent. But NO ONE could have predicted it's affect on patterns of courtship."
New inventions will always have ramifications that we never thought of.

Aye, 'tis true. Anthropologists of the next dominant race are going to be amazed at just how mating rituals could change so rapidly within one species.
