I remember reading an article on the net some time ago, about a supposed sex-robot. Now, it was not an actual robot obviously, more like a more advanced version of one of those RealDolls, or whatever they're called, but it got me thinking. I think it's reasonable to assume some time in the future well be able to make robots.
Now, IF we could make robots or androids that resemble humans so closely that they are basically indistinguishable, do you think we should make robots for sex? They would be sort of like really fancy sex toys.
I think i would be ok with this. And if the sex could be made to be like regular sex, i think i would get one too. If you're a guy, would you?
But there's more. I kept thinking about it... The way i see it, yes, both men and women want sex, but in general, i think that overall, men are the ones that have to strugle harder to get it. I mean, i think a relationship, especially a quality one is about equally hard for both women and men to get, but when it comes to JUST sex, women have a much easier time, as long as they are not hideous or mutilated or something. Now, suppose in this version of the future, these sexbots would be made, and they would be reasonably affordable (say, one half or third of the cost of a car, or less) and available around the world. Men would finally be able to get all the sex they ever wanted.
How would that change the world? Would men lose interest in sex after a while. I know there are people that jokingly say that they're bored of sex because of porn. Would hot, steamy android sexy-time make guys bored with sex?
Or on the contrary, they would love it so much that they wouldn't be interested in real flesh&blood women anymore? Would they lose respect for women, would they stop seeing them as humans? Or would they be able to interact better with women, because the sexual tension would be gone?
Would rape go away? I don't think it would. And i don't think all men would lose interest in women. The ones that want a familly would still marry (or whatever such institution exists at the time), but i do think that it would reduce the number of guys that want a girlfriend. After all, if all you want is sex, it's better to just get a sex bot than to bother with a girlfriend, or to make a fool of yourself night after night in clubs in the hopes of a one night stand. Oh, and it's also safer than going to a prostitute.
Speaking of which, how much would prostitution decrease as a result? How much would STDs decrease as a result?
And would women want a robo-boyfriend? Or, actually not a robo-boyfriend, because i'm not sure how good the robots wouldd be at simulating complex feelings and emotions. I guess a male sex-robot would just be kind of like a fancier vibrator to women. But how many of them would want something like this? If you're a girl would you buy such a thing?
I think something like this would affect human-relationships, but it's hard to figure out how. Maybe it would make people that are afraid of asking someone out into real shut-ins. Maybe they would just get a sex-robot and never get a girlfriend or boyfriend because it's just easier that way. Maybe it would help them get one, because once you have sex, some of the stress and tension and anxiety is gone...
