I recently made a thread asking about the F2P limitations in Star Wars: The Old Republic. I must say I'm mostly pleased with it. I don't mind the extended cooldowns or the fact you must work harder to get stuff subscribers have from the get-go. The one thing I find annoying is that half the time the rewards you get from quests are unequippable (nor can they be traded, apparently). But if I can reach the endgame strictly with F2P, all's well.

Could anybody recommend some good F2P MMORPGs? Which is the most "generous" F2P MMORPG?

Hmmm... I'm going to say Lord of the Rings Online has the best system. Mainly because the limits aren't too harsh, you can get to level 30 on content they give you right from the start, and you can also gain Turbine Points for doing deeds, which allows you to buy more quest packs n such. Or, you can pay some cash, become premium and get a few more perks, and get their in a more expedient fashion.

Now, as for getting to endgame, I'm fairly sure it's possibly, but it'll be difficult and grindy without any quests, other than the main quest-line and the class quests. They also limit your traits, which is a bit of a drag. Honestly, the best way to play LotRO is to wait for a huge sale, buy the quest-packs/expansions, and subscribe for a month. If you do that, you can pretty much fill up your character slots with characters that have everything (currently available) permanently unlocked. Well, maybe not everything, there might be some raids and skirmishes you don't have.

Oh, and on that fact, you do get a few free skirmishes, scaling instance like things to help you level up. And quest's usually don't net you better give gear than what can be crafted until later on, so that's not a problem. As with all MMO's, I'd advise getting a friend to play with you, it's much more fun.

I'm gonna second LotRO. As you've said, if you don't mind that you might have to work a little harder than a subscriber, you can earn enough TP (Turbine Points, in game store currency [http://lotro-wiki.com/index.php/LOTRO_Store]) to purchase almost everything without ever having to spend a single dime.

As a F2P account, you'll start out with 2 character slots, 7 of 9 playable classes, 4 zones to quest in, a Gold cap of 2g.
There's a quest [http://lotro-wiki.com/index.php/Quest:A_Little_Extra_Never_Hurts_--_Part_1] in the introduction area that gives you 10 free TP which can be done once per server, getting you 290 TP in a about an hour or so.

You'll start off with 4 free zones (Ered Luin, Shire, Breeland and Lone Lands) for you to quest in and do deeds. Doing deeds earns you TP and Virtues [http://lotro-wiki.com/index.php/Virtues]. The deeds in the 3 new/lowbie zones (EL, Shire and Bree) are the easiest and it's be possible to create a character, grind out a few deeds (do X quests, kill Y of Z, find some locations etc.) gain some TP delete and repeat.

Another way to gain TP is the Reputation. In Breeland is the Barrowdowns, and in the several Barrows, there are Spiders, Wights and Spirits that drop items for Breeland and Shire rep. Going from zero to Kin (max rep) will earn you 50 TP. So, you can also have one character to collect several rep items, then mail them to a new character, have the new character gain the rep, gain TP, delete and repeat.

Another way to gain some TP is with Maps. There are several maps of Eriador scattered amongst the festivals which are held throughout the year. If you collect all the maps, you can simply create a new character, send them the maps (works better if you have shared storage), and by simply having the map in your inventory, you'll get 10TP. Of course, remember to delete and repeat. Also, there's a set of Moria maps which are all found during the upcoming Anniversary festival, so that's another 10TP.

And, when you do get some TP to purchase some Quest Packs for more content, don't forget to look into extra character slots. After all, buying a Quest Pack allows you to do the deeds in the zone, so the more characters you can send through that zone, the more return you get on your TP investment.
The one thing I like most about the game is that it's possible to get to the max level by soloing. Granted some classes are better suited to solo play (Wardens) than others (Hunters), but they're all capable.

Path of Exile for me once again.

In this F2P MMO there is not "Pay-to-Win" method.
The only things they have in the shop is only cosmetics items, abilities and pets that you can have to your adventure.

Here is the link to see for the game:

Tera's f2p model seems very fair as far as I can tell. The game by itself is pretty good, too, as long as you don't mind the braindead WoW-like quest system and the silly female armors.

Only free MMORPG that didn't bore me to death was Maple Story. And thats probably only because grinding there was kinda, and while art style was terrible, there was some kind of atmosphere that I liked.

Also It's one of the best games to be noob in because game tells you NOTHING about what are you suppose to do expect maybe basic controls and go level up. And I love that, no irony. You have to figure out everything on your own, its like adventure game with real people instead of NPCs.

DDO was okay, Firefall should be out soon and also looks okay. Path of Exile isn't an MMO-it's a diablo clone.

How has the questing changed then? Somehow I'm doubtful that all the 'kill that monster x times' quests have been reworked.

I was playing Allods Online back then. It was very World Of Warcraft feeling and very professional looking game. Not playing very long time, don't know if its still good.

The Elin is the manliest race!
Also, I don't think cat/dog/fox/elephant/whatever ears and a tail is enough for something to be considered furry. It takes more animalistic features like muzzles, or like the name implies, fur. Whatever the case, they're still lolis.

Yeah, they kinda have.
I mean, sure, you're still killing x for guy y. But the thing is that those quests are usually more of a thing you do while you do the more interesting quests. Like you infiltrate, sabotage, or whatever, and complete the kill quests on the way. They are rarely the objective. And there's usually some sort of special gimmick to the quests, some special buff or an item that does some shit. Or a yeti.

Well, for some people this still is qualified as furry.

From Wikipedia:

"The furry is anthropomorphic animal characters with human personalities and characteristics.[1] Examples of anthropomorphic attributes include exhibiting human intelligence and facial expressions, the ability to speak, walk on two legs, and wear clothes"

So yeah, furries.

That's a really generous application of what anthropomorphic animal characters are.

If you're willing to wait a little bit Neverwinter looks like it'll have a pretty cool system, the game itself also looks very good.

I'd have said good by F2P standards but it looks like something that could easily hold it's own amongst P2P/B2P games in my opinion.

What?

No love for the amazing Guild Wars 2?
As a long time WoW player I got sick of the combat style of WoW and SWToR.

Guild Wars is a loving change and a wonderful game.

I don't think you wanted to write down a full analysis for what a furry could be.
You don't want to get in details I think.

See yahtzee's review of cataclysm, there's still x of y quests, but they go alongside save timmy from the well, while testing this experimental gnome launcher, and uncover the mysterious disappearance of lassie.

OT: i have friends that love Forsaken World ftp, but its alot more grindy than most mmos and there is a bunch of ptw in it. but you can still play competitively without paying, therell just be lots of grinding

i personally loved Warhammer online's ftp, you could go to max level and experience most of the content without paying, only need to pay if you want to unlock all the end-game cool stuff

but thats pretty much every ftp mmo: you can see everything, except endgame, need to pay for endgame

Quite right.
I don't care enough to put any more effort into this.

Most quest chains are part of some sort of event that changes the ingame world in some way, they've used their phasing system pretty extensively in MoP (a phased area is an area at a specific state that will change soon, and you can only see other people in the same part of the questline in it). Also, pretty much all daily quests are part of a greater storyline that involves the faction that you are grinding for, and you are very often given new quests that advance that storyline depending on your rep. So basically every daily quest faction has a story, usually a very interesting one, that you advance by doing more dailies, and you get rewarded with new missions and many ingame or even premade cutscenes that forward the story. The Dominance Offensive daily chain was especially well done and fully voiced, you can see videos of the beginning and the ending here, although there's like 15 steps to it:
