could songs like this be the next big thing in music? Is the hate fully deserved? And is there really more to Black as they say? And is she right about the cyber bullying?
Utterly amazed no-one has asked me directly about her and ARK yet.
"This could be the new thing" - well, it's not a new thing, it's actually an old thing. Stock Aitken & Waterman did similar stuff, producing highly manufactured pop to a very specific spec with their roster of artists in the 80s, which included Kylie Minogue (her first four albums were by the SAW team), Rick Astley (yes that song was by them), Mel & Kim, Dead Or Alive and many others. Motown had a similar manufactured aesthetic in the 1960s, churning out hit after hit all with that "Motown sound". ARK is a bit more cottage than that but it's a similar concept.
Of course the hate isn't deserved. If people don't like it they can just not listen to it. Of course the reason why people are posting and linking it everywhere is because they feel it falls in the realm of "so bad it's funny", but obviously people like the song too, because there's plenty of "so bad it's funny" stuff on the net so why should this stand out? The reason why is that fucking "Friday, friday, friday" chorus gets stuck in your head. In other words, it's a pop song with a good hook, and hooked you all are, because I bet every single person reading this remembers how the chorus goes regardless of when they last heard the song.
She's wrong about the cyber-bullying. She's just gotten her first taste of fame and isn't used to the fact that contrary to popular belief, fame tends to make people loathed, not liked. One thing that I recommend all famous people do is not take anything written about them seriously.

So she's catching untold amounts of shit because she was used by the corporate music machine to lend her voice to a single song, and the resulting fallout will probably follow her for the rest of her life and ruin her chances of being taken seriously in the music community.
Vanilla Ice, anyone?
Not an accurate comparison. Vanilla Ice had more than one hit song, multiple albums, movie appearances, and is still active today (although certainly on a lower level than in his heyday).
Here's the follow-up single to Ice Ice Baby that was also a hit back in the day:
