Yeah I know, there's no such thing as bad luck on Friday the 13th, but honestly...I do sort of believe in it from today. I'm as rational as you can get, you might often find me on Youtube videos of The Atheist Experience dissing religious folk in the comments, but after today...
Well, I work as a cashier in a supermarket. First bit of bad luck, I had to start at 7am. I'm used to them, but I still absolutely hate doing them. It's not too bad, I only live fifteen minutes walk away from work. So I'll count the early start as strike one.

Strike 2 was the shower in the main bathroom was leaking. My landlady had gotten a plumber over to fix it yesterday, but she never told me it was completely fixed (there were still damage to the base of the bath, so I thought when I went in this morning that it wasn't finished). I assumed that meant I couldn't shower. This left me with dirty feeling hair for the day.

Strike 3 was I had no food in the house, I'd forgotten to shop the day before, so that meant no breakfast (7am is when we open, so no chance of buying anything, and no, we're not allowed take goods upstairs without paying). I did have...yuck...vending machine soup, I had literally no other choice. It was all right, but still, the thought of eating soup from a vending machine in the staff canteen...

Strike 4 is I was on the express checkouts at the front of the store on my own, no-one beside me. I only got someone at around 10 am.

Strike 5 was my till froze. I completed a transaction, gave the customer her change, but for some reason it wouldn't tick over to a new transaction. It was stuck like that for about a half hour. I was sent to pack bags during that time.

Strike 6 was the worst. A gentleman came up with a basket of goods, put them down, and when I went to pick up his carton of eggs, one of them had been cracked open. Somehow, the actual cardboard had been badly torn there, and the egg yolk went EVERYWHERE. Disgusting. I don't know how he didn't notice his eggs were broken. In a panic looking for tissue to clean it up (couldn't find a cleaner and I had none of my own) I had to grab a pack of tissue from the floor and pay for it myself. This was all in the middle of a very big rush, and my till-mate was a noob, so I'm frantically clearing up the mess while trying to keep an eye on him.

So peeps, anyone else experience bad luck today?

Oh, come on now... Number 1 is just work life. 2 is not bad luck, it's just missing a day... Ever been camping? Number 3 is just being forgetful. 4 is just work life again and the last 2 are arguably bad luck.

Think of the people who were in Japan, they had a nuke dropped on them, then went to another city and nuked again! Can't remember which was first, nagasaki or hiroshima (did I even spell them correctly?)

To be honest, I think Jason vorhees is responsible for the whole Friday the 13th... Thing.

OT: Eh . So far work sucks more than usual . But i will not believe in Friday the 13th ... Unless i somehow die today . Then MAYBE i'll believe in it .

Edit: i just realised i forgot my house keys at home . Now i have to wait for my gf to get here , which will take another 2 hours . Fuck my life.

Edit 2: now it's raining . I couldn't just wait in peace could i? Does anyone have any rope?

Everything is perfectly fine on my front. No particular events that lead me to believe that I'm particularly unlucky today.

Then again, going camping this weekend near a lake in the middle of the mountains with a bunch of friends. If I never post again after tonight, I think you can assume that I died second.

Maybe you just had a really bad day?

I'm pretty superstitious, but the way I reason my way out of Friday the 13th bad luck is I feel it only qualifies if it's in October.

Possibly 'cause I relate it to the halloween movies more than just the number 13. (Though I do hate the number 13...)

Either way, since it's not October, It's just another normal day for me.

Not really i don't have bad luck on this day, it's just a normal day. Heck it's probably an excuse for people to throw parties if anything.

Oh yeah here is a wiki link for those that want to read up on friday the 13th superstition.

Heh I forgot today is the 13th until I had read the title. While I am superstitious but in saying so since I wasn't aware today is Friday the 13th, I haven't view this day to be unlucky for me. The closest events I would say could be "unlucky" would be out of me and my co worker, I end up working on the til during work which I disliked. Granted the other guy had to do the usualy work meaning he was more exhauted while I kind of had it easy (wasn't that many customers when I was on it).

I was born on a 13th, so my birthday has fallen on a friday three times. I've never thought of it as bad luck, in fact I don't think much of it at all. I've never understood how people can be so afraid of the number 13, I guess it is because it is so unpopular that I've come to like the number.

If I remember correctly, the origin of the myth about Friday the 13th came from France. Apparently the king of France wanted the resources/assets or the Knights Templar and when they wouldn't turn over their money, he shut them down.

In order to make certain they would get as many of the Knights as possible and get as much of their money as well, the whole thing was done as a military strike. The Templars were accused of satanistic acts and soldiers raided their homes and meeting houses. It was all set up beforehand and carried out in secret to catch the Templars by surprise. The raid, so the story goes, took place on Friday the 13th.

Ever since then, it seems that confirmation bias and the power of social myth took over. Something bad happened and you don't really remember when it occured? It must have been on Friday the 13th! It's Friday the 13th? Every bad thing that happens will stand out in your memory due to the coincidence!

I view it in the same light as the belief that people get crazier on nights of the full moon. I've never seen a study that shows a correlation and many that show no correlation between the weird and the full moon, but the concept has been so ingrained into the cultural dynamic that people simply won't believe anything that would go against the idea.

Watcha gonna do? I just shrug and roll with it.

Well, I ride the bus to work about once a week just for the added exercise of walking and enjoying the outdoors. To date, I usually end up at the stop about 10-15 minutes early.

Today, for whatever reason, I was running late and had to make a full blown sprint the last 200 feet to get on the bus in time. The driver had actually started driving away, but I was fortunate that he saw me and was in a somewhat good mood that day and waited.

Never happened to me before. Bad luck? Maybe. Related to Friday the 13th? Nah.

My day has included the sudden appearance of a number of larvae on my livingroom ceiling and a pc-breakdown, but there is still no such thing as bad luck on this day or any other. :p

I live in Boulder Co, which you may have heard has experienced severe flooding since yesterday morning. My place is about 1/2 way up a decent hill, so my place didn't flood *and* I have had no interruptions of potable water, power or even internet. As of this morning the rain has stopped and waters are beginning to recede. I wasn't able to work yesterday or today, but we get partial pay for inclement weather closures & I can use up some of my acquired vacation time so I'm looking on this as just a bit of a break from work. I keep a stash of emergency supplies sufficient to keep myself & my kid safe & comfortable for 2 weeks, it doesn't even look like I will have to break in to those.
So nope, despite being in the middle of an official disaster area, not a bad Friday the 13th for me.

I've actually had the greatest day in like the last 4 months.
Free beer was given out today, and then I found out Trebel Charger is playing a free show in my office courtyard. Then ANOTHER free show later tonight in a parking lot like a minute away from my apartment. That and I finished up all my work for or launch beta on Monday.

WOO!!!!

My bad luck started 2 days early, on Wednesday someone rolled a heavy trolly over my foot and then I slammed my fingers in a draw. Today hasn't been too bad at all really.

I love Friday the 13th. It's my favorite slasher series of movies and...

Bah-Dum, tss

Seriously though, around my house we celebrate the date like a mini Halloween. I have hockey masks put out around the place and my big fake Halloween costume Jason Machete. It's a great day! Happy Friday the 13th!

I doubt it. In Latin America we're afraid of Tuesday 13th. Not sure why but it's probably tied to Friday 13th. But then where would the movie fit in?

You know, today was actually kinda nice for me. It started out with me running into a particular someone that really makes my day when I run into, ate some good wings, and had the rest of the day off. Granted I raged a little online while gaming but nothing TOO awful
