I have a bunch of online friends that still play Lord of the Rings Online. I really can't get through to them on how much the game sucks, and I fear for their general health. Any ideas?

lol, this is a great thread already. Personally, nothing you can do about it, except maybe spam them with games you think are pretty cool. Eventually they will check out one of those games and may then get obssessed with those ones. Also, I find that MMO players like casual games, so give em URLs to great new browser-based games.

My only ideas for you are to leave them alone because you're obviously not a terribly great friend if you want them to stop playing a game THEY like because YOU think it 'sucks'. I think its a rather good game and compared to the other games out there an exceptional choice especially with its constant (and consistent) content updates and a new expansion on the horizon. I can't fathom what else you would want them to play (my guess would be Age of Conan, which i have also played and while good it is heavily dependent on your group and not nearly as easy to get into as LOTRO).

Well it's good to see everyone here is just so darn nice. Here I am asking advice on a serious problem and you guys go out and insult me, I'm just so sad *fake tear* :)

Honestly I think the game isn't that good, not enough to be playing it from beta to now at least. I sort of miss the old days when we use to play FPS games together on teamspeak, and not have a MMO take up their lives.

I don't think the game "sucks"-- per-se. I certainly wouldn't be caught dead playing it, but that's because I don't know anyone else who plays it (also because I'm far too busy waiting for WAR to be released).

MMOs have been tearing friendships apart for as long as the genre has existed. You have to realize that your friends have found a game that they enjoy-- and even though you may think it's a "bad game", to take that enjoyment away from them wouldn't really be fair.

I suggest you tell them how you feel-- let them know that you miss the days of FPSing with them. If they are caring friends, I'm sure they'll make time for you.

If not, well, they're not very good friends, are they?

heh actually I use to play it too. I got to Lv 45 out of 50 before quiting out of sheer boredom. I mean it's not the worst MMO out there that's for sure, but I can't understand how people can play it for YEARS. Now WoW I can understand, but LoTR: Online? nah.
