hmmm, well I live in England, and I had my first GCSE exam today.
English, 2 hours long.

Then I had to go to science revision for another two hours to prepare for that test.

Oh well, 1 test down, 15 more to go over the next month and two days...

seems like a legit rule to me. if your working in a job and take a few days off you will normally need a doctor certificate.

schools requiring a doctors certificate are just trying to stop people from just skipping school or taking a day off cause they have an itchy eye or a blocked nose. if your not sick enough to go to a doctor you shouldnt be taking 2 weeks off in a year. i can not remember a single year of school where i had more than 10 days off except when i actually went to hospital for surgery.

down in what way? depressed or just lazy? the reasons you gave for not going to school seem pretty damn weak to me and the school seems to be in the right to punish you for not going. just sounds like your being too lazy. and if you actually dont have the energy or a re depressed maybe you should be going to the doctors cause you might have something seriously wrong with your blood or digestion or mental health.

on another note i dont think attendance should be a ground for failing someone at any level of schooling. if you can pass tthe exams and assignment then that should be enough.

Wait, so you're mad that the school has state enforced attendence requirements that actually have repercussions if you fail to follow them?

So you're saying "do what I want and still let me pass?" type argument? No way, my school had the same thing, I had a friend who was not going to school because he was 'sick' or 'wanted to watch a certian show that day' and the state sent defax to his house and threatened that if he didn't go to school then his parents would be fined and he'd get taken to foster care. Both his parents go to work at around 7am and got home at 6 and 7 pm.

He missed around 30 days almost consectutive before they came out and told him that. He had to make up his work and some community service to be able to stay in grade with us.

But all actions should have reactions, if you choose to sit at home because you're having an 'off day' try doing that in the real world when you have a job, or a family? That won't last long. High school is all about growing up, you should try it.
Nice to see what our schooling system taught you. Your argument is totally misconstrued and unwarranted, you say 30 days all together. Ok well that's a lot and it's 30 days all together but I have missed around 12 days through my entire school career and they were all legitimate reasons. I am not some careless moron who goes to school hacking up yellow flem onto peoples desks and or shitting my pants in a hallway. I never mentioned anything at all about an off day, I talked about how I missed my bus because I had no idea which one to take and when I tried to find the correct stop i failed. Just to be clear High school is not about growing up, if so there would be no rules about showing up. See why do you attend work, to get your job done, how do you usually do that? You accomplish this by going into work and doing your job. Let's say you go to work to do a job that you can do at home just as good and still please your boss with good work, then he is happy and you're happy. You may not fully understand this but I hope you get the gist of it. And in all reality school is just another place where they make a bunch of unique kids into the same damn drone that will never question anything in their life's.
Yes, you did say something about an off day. Cut the snobby crap, you're not better than anybody becuase you think you're 'too unique' for regular schooling. Yes, it is nice to see that our school system has taught Timberwolf how to properly use the english language, which seems to give you trouble. If you think your boss will allow you to do work from home, just because you say you can, you have another thing coming. Even if you can, you very likely won't be allowed. I find it hard to believe that you've only missed twelve days of school in your career, based on your grammar and punctuation skills.
If you think that high school squashes all the individuality out of people, you're kidding yourself. I know countless people who are still fiercely individualistic in thier senior year. If you needed to know where the school bus stop was, you should have looked into it yourself, instead of blaming the school for your lack of knowledge. It's not the schools fault that you didn't act quickly enough to get into the classes you wanted, it's yours. It's your fault that you have study halls instead of electives.
Stop using big word to try to make yourself seem smart. You've used a few incorrectly, and it clashes overtly with your poor grammar. There's this stuff called medicine, we use it to help us with small time health problems. You may want to look into it.

You have not been to my school, I'm sure you would not enjoy it at all. It's a situational thing, some schools are good and some schools are bad. Mine is just downright horrible and I am planning on getting away from it soon enough anyway.

First of all this is an internet forum not an important essay. I know a lot of the rules in English but I'm not perfect, honestly I have never been taught grammar and what I have picked up were just things I found out from reading. Albeit I'm only 16 and I have not had a lot of practice with grammar there is no reason for me to disregard the rules of English. I'm sorry if my non perfect grammar skills on this forum have insulted you or made your life hard.

I find that wierd, because Australia has free health care so the only hassel going to the doctors is the actual act of going to the doctors. Unlucky.

School is falling apart yes and there are many rats around. They have been found in the kitchens and the pool and there are various fights everyday. Many drug dealers who supply drugs such as marijuana to heroine. The education is ok but it's very generalized and much of it is suited to let the slower kids keep pace while the faster kids get bored.

One other thing :) Honestly anyone who thinks they are smart is fooling themselves. Intelligence is something that one can never truly achieved for there will always be new breakthroughs in whatever topic you are interested in. Those who realize their mistakes slowly try to fix them. I have horrible grammar and when I was younger it was even worse but I'm slowly trying to improve it. Lately I have been working on my speaking skills due to the fact I have been talking to way to fast and reading the same way. Oratory skills aside there has never been a true definition of intelligence and there never will be, many people who have been extremely smart have lacked in one area or another. It's human nature everyone has areas where they excel and others where they lack in. I know you may say communication is key and grammar is important but I always try to get things out to fast and skip over most of the rules. I plan to work on it slowly but until then the few people that read what I write or talk about will have to deal with my horrible grammar and writing skills.

Your argument is invalid because you're a dumbass.. Proof read *****.. or are you missing English/Language Arts/Grammar/Whatever the hell they're calling it now-a-days.
Anyone who uses insults in a retort does not really deserve to be noticed.
So you're admitting that you were wrong, it's alright to be wrong thats just ignorance leaving your body. As long as you learn from it. If you don't learn from it then you'll always be ignorant. If you don't have enough energy chug an energy drink, a 5 hour energy will work "But I don't drink those things, they're bad for you" then suck it up, get out of bed and go to work school. Because, if I don't go to work, then I get fired, you don't go to school, you fail. Both literally and figuratively.

All I get from a 5 hour energy drink is vertigo, makes for fun times while in a car.

I can feel your pain, somewhat. I moved from Georgia to Washington. My school district at the time had an attendance system setup where if you miss more than eight days without a doctor's note you were put on a sort of probation where your credits for that semester were held and you had to have a clean attendance and disciplinary action record for the next one.

Then I got sick with salmonella and ended up out for close to two weeks. Because I didn't get a doctor's note in within the first eight days they put me on probation, and it stuck despite the fact that I gave them a note once I came back.

Somehow in all of that I still never got a credit back for one of my classes, despite the fact that the teacher had no work to give me because I'd get it done too fast.

To top that off, they got rid of that system the next school year, pissed me the fuck off. Now their policy is you can miss as many days as you want and how the teacher handles your make-up work is their own problem.

I require cougar blood to keep me fueled up but Charlie Sheen has it kept in short supply. Red bull, it gives you wings (Figuratively that is unless you drink more then 7 cans in an hour then you may receive them).

Only give you wings if you mean by becoming an angel (unless you go to hell) because that will kill your heart.

Missed my Bus.... Sometimes my problem is I just don't have the energy or just have an off day. The doctor would not be able to do anything so why should i waste my money bothering with mundane shit.....
All I get from 5 hour energy drinks are vertigo, makes for fun times while in a car.
You should try taking an ambien and a 5 hour energy Then try a Red Bull, or my favorite Monster nitrious. (anyone else love the strike function?)
:D Well I'm sure if you believe in heaven and you drink 7 red bull you will most likely go to hell because honestly how could any human being ingesting 7 red bulls in an hour have good intentions?
