Ok so it's the new year and a lot of people are dieting. I myself am quite chubby but never diet because I have no problem about my weight and I am also relatively fit (I teach a martial art which class which really helps) I just love my food.

Now my problem is I'm part of a tabletop gaming group and the tradition is to bring in a load of sugar filled "Diabeetus" bait which is great for me but others in the group are now dieting and I don't want to test their willpower more than needed.

So my escapists I ask of you, do you have any suggestions for healthier snacks that are practical while gaming and don't taste like well used insoles.

How appropriate.

Dark chocolate with 70% cocoa or more. If 70% is cocoa there's not room for much bad stuff. Also, it's not something you shovel in your mouth like popcorn.

Slice up some cucumbers and stuff, and add a good yogurt based dip?

For the people with a sweet tooth: dried figs and dates are nice. Healthy too.

Japanese rice crisps are a good alternative to regular crisps. Popcorn too, if you stay away from the butter.

As for drinks, maybe make drinking tea a thing? My friends and I made drinking tea a thing and it's awesome. It's cheap, 0 cal and there are so many different types of blends to try. Heck, you could even look for something that suits the setting of the game.

Oddly enough drinks aren't an issue as tea is a big thing for us.

The martial art I mentioned is Bartitsu, a relatively lost martial art that we are researching and helping bring back. This is a British Victorian martial art so when we do demonstrations at events, top hats, formal attire and a good cup of tea.
The tea has crept in to all other areas of life.

And/or look for some low calorie dunkable biscuits. Sure, it's bit less classy, but low-class treats aren't without charm.

There is: dark chocolate with chili peppers.

Oh, something I just remembered: grapes. It's more of a seasonal snack, but my friends and I could easily finish a pound of those during break back in secondary school.

Grapes are good. Grapes are delicious. Grapes are pleasing in the eyes of the Lord.

I don't get chili-chocolate though. What's the appeal?

The complex bittersweetness of the dark chocolate combined with the delayed kick from the chili peppers works really well. You'd have to find a bar with good flavour balance, though (or atleast one that suits your tastes).

Pop two or three bags of unbuttered popcorn. Add in some cayenne, basil, red chili powder and kosher salt (a pinch, just enough to get an even coating in the bag) in a Tupperware tub or big ziplock. Shake vigorously, and mix in almonds, dried cranberries, chick peas and sesame sticks. Serve in a Dixie cup.

Give them a can of tuna each. You can make the can opener a quest reward.
It would be interesting to see more DMs condition their players like this. I'm pretty cheap, though, sooo...

OT: How about some nice almonds?

I buy, whenever it's my turn to do so:

A package that contains;
- 2 packs of crackers
- 2 kinds of cubed cheese
- 2 kinds of sliced meat

I also buy grapes, spicy peanuts and some juice (primarily because we have a child in my session. If not for him, I'd buy beer). I'd suggest making meatbread, but that's not something you can, by any means, call healthy.

What about that nature box, they sell all kinds of healthy snacks that sound quite nice. Don't know where you're from but the UK has a variant, can't remember off the top of my head.

... which is weird since I live in the uk but I listen to a lot of podcasts, that are typically american (rooster teeth and giantbomb) and nature box pays for ads but the UK one only advertises through amazon, with some wine thing.

I've found grapes work really well for gaming snacks. They're easily grabbed, popped into the mouth, no mess, they're sweet, and they don't fill you up too much. Also the veggie/cheese plate with sauces/dips has been very popular at gaming tables I've been to. The veggie plate especially, as my gaming group had very different tastes when it came to veggies. One guy was strictly a carrot man, while another like the bits of coliflouer and cucumber slices. I find those two the best for healthy gaming snacks, as they are easy for everyone to take portions from and sit back down on the couch without much issue.

The people already mentioned unbuttered popcorn and grapes. So I'll just say cashews, or peanuts, or butter Ritz Crackers. You don't really need to put anything on them, they're sweet, but you'll be drinking a lot of water.

But cashews work too.

Crunchy stuff! Like baby carrots or sliced celery, or small crackers (sliced low-fat cheese and meats optional but recommended). If you're the baking type, you can bake some Chex mix. For drinks, vitamin water, fruit juice or iced tea are all generally better options than soda.

Might try the Chex mix.

Girlfriend makes wedding cakes for a living so have done more than my fair share of baking.

Thanks for all the advice by the way, wasn't expecting as many people to respond to a none feminism topic.
Good going.

Fruits also have sugar, taste great and are much healthier than sweets.
Due to their small snack like size, I recommend grapes (as other have mentioned), strawberries, raspberries, gooseberries and such.
If you're willing to put in that extra effort, you can cut up a pineapple or a watermelon into tiny tiny bite size chunks or separate oranges/clementines into individual pieces.
I also like to use cherry tomatoes as snacks.
