I'll echo the sentiment that I'll wait for the film to actually judge it. The look is certainly not what I expect when I think of the Joker, but that doesn't mean it'll be bad or that particular outfit will be prominent in the film. I know this thread is about initial reactions to the photo, but I find it so strange to judge an entire film on one shot.
Or even an entire character on one shot.

That sounds like the theories going around that the "joker" in the Suicide Squad movie is actually Jason Todd.
In fairness, There have been theories that pretty much everyone in the movie isn't who they really are. I forget who Will Smith is really supposed to be, but Affleck is supposedly playing Slade Wilson, Jeremy Irons is Wilson's man-servant (Whose name I also forget), and Killer Croc is a Goomba who was trapped here after the events of the Super Mario movie.

At this point, I think the only person not yet speculated to be someone else is Superman, and now I really want someone to start a rumour that General Zod swapped minds with Kal-El before the neck-breaking and that's why he and Batman Deathstroke are fighting.

Zod vs Deathstroke: Dawn of the B-List doesn't quite have the same ring, though.

Theses comments are quite good proof that comic book fans don't tend to like when someone changes something up from their favorite things.
Did we really need proof? I mean, more proof?

Did people see this back in the day and think...
"Gothem City is screwed. Batman has no chance against that menace!"

Well, a few things about that:

1. the majority of this board is significantly younger than me, and I was 9 when that came out. I doubt many people here have much of a perspective.
2 Even as a kid, I thought Jack Nicholson playing Jack Nicholson was a terrible casting choice for the Joker.
3. This is probably most important. To adults, a lot of the image of the Joker had been formed from this guy:

And thanks to reruns, a lot of us kids had our image of the Joker formed from this. Or Super Friends, also thanks to reruns. The comics weren't much help, either, as the darker tone we associate with Batman was largely a recent thing and it wouldn't get to the levels we now expect until after the Burton movie dropped.

I've got to say, that image is pretty close to what someone in the 80s would have expected from a live-action movie Joker.

A better question might be "would people expect Luke Skywalker to make a good Joker?" or "would people expect Heath Ledger to be a good Joker?" the latter one I'll never really understand. The guy had shown amazing versatility in his career to that point (even though I like him for some pretty weak ones). Him and Downey as Iron Man always baffled me. The former because he had such range and the latter because Downey was already basically playing Iron Man without the intellect or suit.

I mean, I'm still dubious about Battfleck specifically because I think he has limited range, and I can understand people not eing able to unsee Chris Evans in those FF movies, but...you know what? This is off my point. There are certainly Jokers people didn't see coming. I'm not sure Jack was one of them.

What's he supposed to be? In a British punk band?
Maybe that's it. Suicide Squad isn't a crime movie. They just need to gather people tough enough to be in a band with Mr J.

And once again we must remember is important seeing *put name here* like this, doesn't mean *put name here* will be horrible in the movie.
Acting, Atmosphere, Lighting, Plot, Personality play a big role in a character.

But I digress, I don't like his new look AT ALL myself! But as I said, first see, then judge.
