The only benefit of playing on PSN - I don't get hate mail.

I wouldn't really take in what that rep system says, apparently around the same amount avoid me for the reason that I use bad language/trash talk/make annoying noises through the mic.sethisjimmy said:Also my Xbox Live rep is pretty abysmal. Something like 70% avoided me, with the largest factor being that I quit games before they're over. Meh.
It's probably not within yours or the site's taste to do this, but I am sure there are plenty of people around here who'd love to see anonymous hate mail letters posted and responded to. It's always fun to see someone's poorly thought out criticism getting deconstructed and utterly destroyedSusan Arendt said:-Snip-
That's why the person's name would be anonymous or renamed to something like, "chauvinist douche-nozzle".Boudica said:Don't think it's worth them getting the attention, though. Unless they were banned from the forum and then the content was posted and torn apart. Watching helplessly as their insults are reduced to comedy fodder would hurt ;PFappy said:It's probably not within yours or the site's taste to do this, but I am sure there are plenty of people around here who'd love to see anonymous hate mail letters posted and responded to. How DARE you be female!?Susan Arendt said:I'm not a mod, I'm the managing editor. So most of the hate mail comes from me having opinions about games. Or just being female.Sp3ratus said:Really? a)taking stuff on here seriously enough to actually write hate mail
and
b)not being smart enough not to spew whatever BS they're spewing at mods.
Actually scrath that last one. I'm in customer service, so I know how vile people can be over even trivial things. I'd assume most of the hate mail you're getting is from people who've been banned and/or gotten a warning and stuff, right?
EDIT: And like the others, I of course appreciate the work you do in keeping the place tidy.
There's a difference between someone just tossing a gendered insult in because it's easy or obvious, and someone going on about how I should shut up because I'm always "pushing a feminist agenda" and the other guys on the podcast "need to grow some balls and stand up to" me.Boudica said:I love ya, but that sort of bothers me--"Some people really, really cannot handle a woman speaking her mind." People disagree with others and the internet generally allows loud mouthed hooligans to run free and say what they think with no real consequence. No matter who you are, if you say something any particular group doesn't agree with, and you say it online, you're gonna cop flak. If you were a large person, they'd call you fat. If you were an Asian, they'd use racial slurs. If you're a woman, they'll call you a... bad C word. They just pick out anything they think will get under your skin and use it. With sexism being a hot topic around here, a sure fire way to ruffle some feathers is drop the C word and lay into the sexist insults.Susan Arendt said:Thank you! It is weird, but when you do that, I imagine it as something like the scene from The Raiders of the Lost Ark, except you're talking and all the haters faces are melting away because they can't handle the awesome truths.
The readiness with which some people label gender an issue is a major hurdle preventing feminism from achieving its goals. It creates an image of women being fakes and quick to play the victim. It comes off like a scapegoat, regardless of intent. Not that this is the context in which you said it, but "It's just because I'm a woman!" is a very destructive association we don't want. No doubt some women cop genuine sexist nonsense here, in the modern world, but at times it seems some of us are a little too quick to reach for the victim card.
Maybe I've inferred much too much and have looked too far into a two sentence comment. Hopefully I've not offended you and I send this message with no ill-will. You've got nothing but respect and laughs from me. Just offering my observations, for whatever they happen to be worth

You're just going to have to trust me about the tonal difference between "someone should shut you up by shoving a cock in your mouth" and "every time you open your mouth it's some feminist bullshit."Boudica said:But if you're known for telling it like it is and being somewhat Spartan, couldn't that attitude be the cause of the rage, with the sex insults simply being the best way for them to "get back at you?" Too bad we can't temporarily swap people's gender around to see if they are treated differently lol.

Yep. And worse. Whenever this kind of thing comes up, my friends and colleagues (who are, as you might expect, almost exclusively male) always ask me "No-one's ever said something like that to you, have they?" and I assure them yes, it happens all the time. They're always shocked and horrified, which I find encouraging, in a way. It's nice to see there are people who still have enough class to be appalled by those who lack it.Boudica said:People say those things to you?
