I like to go with:
Officer Nasty
Captian Cockles
Phill Atio

Captian Cockles is great because it's (kind of) appropriate, becuase a cockle is a kind of clam.

EDIT:
In Old Republic, I named my character "Robin" (as in Batman and Robin) and made him look like Robin. I ran around the starting world yelling "Holy Habadashery Batman!", "There's trouble afoot in Gotham!", "The Jokers running amuck!". I got some interesting responses from people. A friend and I are planning on doing the same thing again, but as Batman and Robin.

Is Alone In The Dark the ZP review where those 2 names were used?

OT: In really-serious games like Fallout or something like that, I name my character a common Ordinary Joe name such as Gary. I flat-out fail to take said games seriously at all, and, as I've said before, to me, Gary just has a nice ring to it.

Usually I just give them my name (if female) or canon names. Unless I'm feeling childish that day.

In FFVII I renamed Barret "Douche", most other characters kept their canon names (including Cloud).
Tidus in FFX was renamed Airhead for no reason.
Marche in FF Tactics Advanced was once named New Kid, just so he could say "My name isn't New Kid! Its New Kid!"

In Pokèmon my main character is almost always named Usagi (except in Black, where its actually male and named Conejo, both mean rabbit in two different languages) and the rival something random or their canon name. I may even have named him Roxas one time. The Pokèmon's name range from normal, to the outright ridiculous. In SoulSilver half of my party got Warcraft-names (Sylvanas the Totodile, Krasus the Charizard and Thrall the Torterra.) When I started breeding Snivys I ended up naming all of them after Slytherin-members (suitably enough my starter's name was Salazar) seeing as I ended up running out of names some were named after the same character, as such I had three called Lucious, Draco and Malfoy, and two named Severus and Snape.

In Roller Coaster Tycoon 2 my friends and I once had fun with giving guests silly names and then killing them/dropping them into the wild, only to get messages such as "A little fish has drowned" or "a man with a map is lost and can't find the park exit".

In Dragon Age: Origins, i named my beloved dong Thundercunt. Dialogue options have never been so funny!
Huh, I didn't know you could name your body parts in Dragon Age.

I pretty much always change the names when it's my second playthrough. This, of course, for games which have a "default" name for all characters (like Final Fantasy). When there's no name, I either make up something awesome or something silly, depending on the game.

Well, in Pokemon I usually put silly sounding names to them, but sometimes I name a Pokemon after another species of Pokemon just to screw with their minds.

Now, in Champions Online, I can't resist getting silly, specially with the huge amount of characters I've made. I have a character named "Bingo Announcer From Dimension Z", another named "Guy Playing This Game As A Girl" and one named "I Ran Out Of Ideas For Names".

Lets see, I've had a multitude of Terraria characters whenever me and my mates get bored of our current world/give someone else a go at hosting

Rookie (normal)
Old ****** (Less normal)
GINGERS DO HAVE SOULS! (Pure red head, white clothes/skin for the 'no soul' part xD)
Suicidial Goth child (hehehe)

And a few others which are far too horrible for the eyes of the escapist community...
Haha I've done similar mate.

Phil (Normal)
A retard (straight into weird names, he was a guy with flat hair and weird clothes)
Ching Chong Chinaman (A yellow man with an entirely white outfit)

And some others I forget.

I usually use whats on my mind at the time, or something that I have pre-determined.

For wow, my Dwarf Shaman is Foolzball I think it's a suitable name for him. My Gnome rogue is Bigmac for irony sake, and my Spacegoat is Kalenka cause I was listening to a techno song that started off.. KALENKA.. bam bam bam bam

Also for thinks like Skyrim I name lore friendly

Nord Razul Skull-Crusher

Argonian Goes-For-Throat

Khajiit Ra'zor

Reguard Antwan

In some games, as we all know, there exists the ability to give your character their own name, created by you. These are, as we also know, absolutely hilarious to abuse. So what's the funniest/most offensive name you have thought up for a character? Because I'm a huge ZP fan, I named two of the dwarves I created Terry and Gonad (bonus points if you can tell me which review that is) Have at it everyone!
his review of Wet. Loved that review

I have fun naming my characters in the Zelda games. I named him Boner in one game (made for some interesting dialogue) and named a kid in the game Wenis. I also had fun naming some of my pokemon in the Red version.

On a more serious note, in Fallout 3, I made a female character and she basically looked and played like Jill Valentine from Resident Evil

Actually, it was from the Alone in the Dark review, but Wet was a funny review too. I think I'll go and name my next Commander Shepard 'Pillock' now.......

I once named my character "Eh?" because it made everyone Canadian
That sounds like it would be interesting in Jade Empire. If you've played it, I think you'll know what I mean. By the way, I'm a big fan of your youtube videos. Keep it up! :)

Usually I stick to the given character name. In Chrono Trigger I renamed Robo "Kryten" because I'm a big fan of Red Dwarf. I do appreciate delightfully immature abuses of the naming system, like what Spoony did to Ranoa (sp) in FF8.

I use my nickname for the first axe wielder i made, while my mages was named after the greek gods and goddess's(Persephone, Chronos, and Zeus) and i used google translate for the rest (beauty in norse translates to Nade, Fire in roman is Ignatio, etc)

My main was still the axe wielding Orc, Rog-Rog

I always name my dog Dogmeat.
Always.

The only goofy name I've given a character is my bounty hunter in SWTOR: Tango Fett. (My guild has a tendency toward puns...)

sadlly, is is the case with 'joke characters' Professional troll, didn't get much play, my Thunder Katts though, they get played, lightning based powers are pretty bad ass, in ether game XD

though >.> i don't have many other 'fun names'
had one for a while on CoH call 'Frozen Flame' (a fire/ice combo of some kind)
then there was Thunder Raven (who later became Thunder Katt) who's now on DCUO

so for the most part i have boring names, normal sounding names or if you have any brains at all you wont ask what they do, cause it in their name.
