What are some of the funniest bugs and oddities you've seen in games? Doesn't need to be actual bugs, ridiculous game mechanics and unlikely statistics are fine too.

For starters, Dwarf Fortress has had quite a few during its development:

-According to an early development story, a farmer took a bed from a furniture stockpile and "planted" it into his field.

-The Hammerer (dwarven executioner) had broken both his arms, so he did his job by biting the criminal, shaking his head furiously and ripping his arm off.

-Throwing is severely overpowered, and it is quite common to break skulls with thrown socks and pierce internal organs with sand or vomit. A meme formed from a soldier who killed a gigantic bronze colossus by knocking its head off with a fluffy wambler. (equivalent of a chibi bunny)

-A recruit accidentally killed his spouse while sparring, but while he was sad at losing his wife and having killed her, he still "took joy in slaughter".

-The legendary statue Planepacked is deservingly known as the most epic artifact ever created. A moody stoneworker collected materials for over a year, before finally creating a statue with the entire history of the world carved on it, along with 73 pictures of itself.

-On a once in a lifetime occurence, someone managed to rip off an enemy's skull without killing him. Apart from a massive round scar, he was perfectly fine living with his skull gone.

In Mass Effect I was exploring a planet and encountered a Thresher Maw who surfaced directly below me, sending the Mako flying through the air and landing upside down. We were out of the Maw's area but stuck upside down. I managed to flip the Mako and it would let me auto-return to the Normandy so I had to reload the planet. I thought it was funny because I didn't think it was possible to flip it over and get stuck

In Minecraft, how two minecarts used to go at high speed next to each other. I bet they went at 88 mph.

From Oblivion:

-There's a mod that adds more visceral violence like decapitations and bisections. The mod does not recognize plot-vital NPC:s though, so they are still only "knocked unconscious" and stand up after a while, even without head, arms or legs.

-The imperial guards patrol the roads to keep travelers safe. When noticing wild animals, they tend to dismount their horses and chase after them far away into the forest. Easy way to steal their horses, if you're into that kind of thing.

-Enemies always attack the target with lowest HP. Since the player character tends to be pretty strong, marauding robbers attack his horse even while the hero wails on them with a battleaxe.

In Kingdom Hearts re: coded, i was in the Traverse Town Secret Alleyway System Sector, and it was one of those tall, mountainlike rooms. I was fighting a bunch of Soldiers, and randomly, a Defender fell from the sky, well past it's despawn line, and toasted me. I proceeded to whale on it with my trusty Metal Chocobo, and i ended up getting flung to the top of the room, where the same exact Defender respawned because i got away. I was behind it, so it ate Judgement Triad as i chuckled at this ridiculous phenomena.

In inFamous 2, I was fighting the icemen in the flooded area near the wrecked train cars and I was blown back by a rocket that I didn't see coming. I was thrown into one of the train cars that I guess was gonna be one of the temporary bases for Cole and the gang and I couldn't get out.

It was right in the middle of a side quest so I had to quit out and restart the mission all over again, very annoying.

F:NV's Wild Wasteland.
Couple this with Lobo The Wonder Deathclaw.

LOBO EXPLAINED...

In Fallout 3, Deathclaws roam the Capital Wasteland at random. They are not so picky about territories for the most part, and thus run about sometimes. I was on a cliff overlooking a large area where I spotted a single Deathclaw. With my Alien Blaster out of juice, I unslung Harkness' plasma rifle and took aim in VATS.

I had a percentage to shoot, but I knew it wasn't very high, so maybe I'd get lucky if I took alot of shots at his torso. I fired...and then the most peculiar thing happened. The Deathclaw flew off into the sky and I was unable to hit him. He went up, waaay up, and I did not see him again.

A flying Deathclaw is not a fun thing to think about, but apparently it can happen. And so, I called him Lobo.

More Oblivion and Dwarf Fortress bugs. I play other games too though.

-One of the creepiest Oblivion bugs was when someone was diving into the Mages Guild well to search for a drowned corpse. However, instead of opening the corpses inventory, the use button opened a dialog with the corpse, who, with the typical Bethesdra Stare turned towards the player with its eyes backwards. It also had the standard NPC dialog, but its mouth and eyes never ever moved.

-When you hit an ally enough times, he will attack you. This also applies to NPC:s, and there have been quite a few incidents of guards fighting each other to the death because one missed a mudcrap one too many times. And when someone attacks a guard, he becomes the enemy of all the other guards, so at best I've seen a seven guard battle royale.

-When a plot related NPC turns against you from hitting him too many times, you can calm him down by beating him unconscious. In one fighters guild mission this happened so many times that his clothes were destroyed from the damage.

-Dwarf fortress also has a similiar bug, known as Loyalty Cascade. If a citizen of a village comes from a nation you were in war with, he will attack you on sight. However, if you're from the same nation as village, the other villagers will attack the hostile citizen. But since he's from the same nation as well, everyone attacking him is declared enemy, and the whole village erupts in an everyone vs everyone fight to the death.

Another one of a fall to death interrupting the High Channelor: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=31Vt5sKqNCo

-In Dwarf Fortress, it is possible to talk with anyone if you sneak to them unnoticed. You can have a nice chat with a bandit leader, before he notices having talked with you and gives his speech of doom to you.

-In STALKER, the NPC:s dont understand the hazards of fire. It is quite common for people to sit around a campfire, until one stands up and walks straight into the fire, falling dead without anyone noticing enough to even stop playing the guitar. The best case was when I attacked some bandits, and found two men head first in the same burning barrel.

During one of the Romulus Lair missions in Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood, I apparently hit a guy so hard with my hammer that his dead body and I both glitched through the floor into the level geometry.

Suffice it to say, swimming in invisible water under the floor and watching the Followers of Romulus trying to get to you makes things interesting.

In New Vegas, one of the mountains next to Sloan doesn't have a top. This means I could jump inside it just for kicks.

In Crysis 2, if you stood under where the alien drops would land in one level, you would be flung into the air, out of the area of the map, and then land in water. I then went on to swim back to the level and kill everything.

Banjo Kazooie Nuts And Bolts has a way, at least in the demo, to get under the map and then behind the fenced off area that was pretty cool.

Finally, once while I was playing Just Cause 2, I died with a large machine gun equipped. When I respawned, the machine gun was coming out of his groin and his hands were still in the same position (no longer holding though). It made it hilarious to fire the gun at people.

Any open-world game using the Havok physics engine to ragdoll characters. Most notably Fallout 3.

...I was hoping to post one of my own (where a mutant was stretched across the sky over Big Town), but I can't seem to find the damn thing. I've burned through three or four Windows installations on this drive since I took it, though...

one in Jak 3 had me in intrigued, when you were in Spargus City, at the coast.
there was this GIGANTIC building (with spikes around the edges, of course) and if you stood on a specific edge and walked into the building, you fell through the floor, into the water beneath, buut then, you could swim or board your jetboard, and make your way to the beach, then turn around, and ride up to the sand.
i had a lof of fun with that :)
---
and the most annoying then/funny now ones i had was in assassin's creed, with just random falling through the ground into the water...
once happened when i was jumping from the knight fortress in Acre, when i had just killed WIlliam, and was jumping into a haystack... i fell through the haystack...
ahhh, good times :D

Borderlands

- Cliff exploring in the Deep Fathoms. I jumped form the ledge I was on to a lower one and fell through the cliff out the bottom of the overhang and died.

- OLD HAVEN: Got killed by a Badass Engineer that I couldn't see because he was fused with a wall.

- Playing a soldier and planted my turrent which sank into the ground and disappeared; the energy shield remained, though.
