Charles Carreon, FJ's lawyer in the lawsuit against The Oatmeal is now suing Matthew Inman, IndieGoGo, the National Wildlife Federation and the American Cancer Society. Over the "bear love good, cancer bad" fundraiser.

NOT A GOOD LOOK BRO, suing two charities. For a guy who made his fame as an "internet lawyer", the man's a dumbass.

It might not have seemed very dehumanizing when Walt Disney made Japanese people look silly with buck teeth and big glasses who could not pronounce their 'R's or their 'L's. But it was dehumanizing, and the purpose was to direct evil intentions against them, which ultimately resulted in the only nuclear holocaust that ever occurred in the history of humanity. I don't think Truman would have ever done that if we hadn't so dehumanized the enemy.

Wow, that really is something.
I must say, seeing a legal document punctuated with The Oatmeal's highly offensive and foul mouthed pictures is incredibly hilarious. I especially love the way one page is titled "THE DEFENDANTS? ?BEAR LOVE? CAMPAIGN"

The main jist of his argument seems to be that he is saying he has been personally targeted by the Oatmeal, who runs an obscene website that loves to personally attack people and tell others to personally attack people, and then he says that because of this the charities should not be accepting the money or supporting the event because this is a bad person holding it, and they shouldn't be tied to someone with that reputation. Then he goes on a bit more about the personal attacks he has endured

Could any legal boffin decipher exactly what the terms Carreon wants are:

A. A permanent injunction:
1. Imposing a charitable trust upon all assets in the possession of Indiegogo
collected from Plaintiff and other donors, allocating half to the National Wildlife Foundation,
half to the American Cancer Society, and none to Defendants;
2. Barring Doe 1, or alternatively Inman, from falsely personating Charles Carreon
or using the Charles Carreon registered mark alone or in combination with other words, symbols
or designs including in any manner;
3. Requiring Indiegogo to register as a California fundraiser before proceeding with
any future charitable fundraising;
4. Requiring the NWF and the ACS to affirmatively require written contracts with
all commercial fundraisers in the State of California and to police the activities of fundraisers in order to prevent future abuses, false advertising, and unfair practices;
B. An award of actual damages suffered by Plaintiff in such amount as shall be established
by proof;
C. An accounting and disgorgement of Inman?s and Indiegogo?s ill-gotten profits, if any,
from the conduct alleged herein;
E. A finding that the infringements by Inman and Does 1 ? 100 were willful, and/or that
Plaintiff?s recovery is inadequate based on Defendants? profits; wherefore treble damages are
warranted pursuant to 15 U.S.C. § 1117(a);
F. A finding that this is an exceptional case, and that an award to Plaintiff of its full costs
and reasonable attorney?s fees is therefore warranted pursuant to 15 U.S.C § 1117;
G. An order pursuant to 15 U.S.C. § 1116(a), requiring Inman, Indiegogo, the NWF, and the
ACS to file with the Court and serve on Plaintiff within thirty (30) days after service of an
injunction order as requested herein, a report in writing under oath setting forth in detail the manner and form in which they have complied with the Court's Order;

As far as I can tell the first demand is a selfless making sure the charities get their money. He calls for stricter restrictions on who can hold charitable events for these organisations, and for legal protection from being impersonated on the internet by The Oatmeal (lol)
Then we come to his personal claims against the Oatmeal (I'm guessed for defamation and damage to business, personal distress etc: all that crap.) He not only asks for damages to be paid to himself, but treble damages, and files for exceptional circumstances so the courts will pay all his legal fees. What a selfless angel. Clearly he's not in this for personal gain at all.

So I just read this entire debacle for the first time, and it was the funniest goddamn thing I've ever seen in my life. I just want to personally thank FunnyJunk and their representation for being such blithering idiots that this was allowed to happen in the first place.

B: Money for FJ based on "proven damages"
C: A record of any profits The Oatmeal or Indiegogo made off of this fundraiser
E: Money for FJ based on "proven offences"
F: Money for himself (legal fees)
G: A requirement that the NWF and ACS file legal paperwork before receiving any donations in California ever again
H: More fucking money
I: EVEN MORE GODDAMN MONEY!!!

In short, A is what was going to happen, C is bogus, G will never happen, and everything else is MONEY!!!!!
