We have excellent creative capacities. We have wonderful social cognition.

Memorization, organization, and rote memory, animals are exceptionally more capable.

OT: I think I could see myself doing this.

I'm in, all the way, cause the people who really matter would respect my decision.
And the rest would get their ass kicked by my awesome new hybrid powers!

I would totally do it.... especially if it managed to help compensate for my physical problems... by which I mean my back and legs, you only recover so much from a broken back and a severed nerve.....

Assuming it gets released to the public one would hope the moral question of "are you really still human after doing this?" would and should have already been tackled. I can tell you right off the bat there would be several religions that would probably be against it and see it as some kind of affront against god. Like it or not, here in the US and other countries around the globe laws are created based in religious ideas. Immediately you would have the world split into three maybe four groups. Those against, those for, those who don't give a crap, and those who want to try and troll the other three.

Would I do it? Can't say that I would, knowing the level of persecution we've put other humans through that were simply of a different skin color or culture I would hate to see the level of ugly that would transpire between humans and a new species of human. Actually I don't have to, I can just open an X-men comic and see the end result.(now that I think about it) Were the procedure to become the norm of society to the point that not having it puts you at a severe disadvantage then I would certainly get it.
You do raise an interesting point with the whole "Would you still be human?" issue. Sort of a Deus Ex thing.

Honestly, I'm not sure if I would do it. I'd want more information to go on before deciding.

Nah I'm good. I think it'd put a lot of strain on the human mind to go through these rapid changes and I'm not a Furry. If people want to take let them its their choice.

I must said I was disappointed, I was hoping this was going to be a actual talk about the RL issue that furries is still being harassed by ignorant peasants with pitchforks (aka the general public and it´s tendency to judge rather then learn)

I'll admit that I occasionally see irrational hatred for furries pop up here and there, but I wouldn't say that that the general public harasses them. I'm disappointed that wasn't the discussion being had here either.

As for the original 'serum' concept I can only see this being theoretically possible taking the form of interspecies chimeras [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chimera_(genetics)]. That would certainly be interesting since these chimera would have no say in the matter, with the deed being done before birth. It would be like a new form of racism. (I know it's hypothetical and fiction, but still...)

I have no idea what I'd do. Honestly, I don't think I'd even want to live in this world anymore. Not because of the furry part (don't think I'm letting you off the hook that's seriously messed up), but because it's a great big middle finger to humanity at large. What's better than a human being? Why, an animal, of course. If you're human, the best you can do is splice in some animal, genetically. Ouch, man. Not only would I have to suck up my disgust of furryism lest I become a sad, bigoted remnant denying the next step in evolution, but I'd have to live with the knowledge that these semi-humans are inherently superior to me in every way. I could get the splicing done myself, of course, but I rather like myself the way I am. Having to decide between being smarter, faster and overall more like I'm trying to become vs. staying human but with no benefits... it would probably kill me.

I think the whole scenario kind of puts the furryism thing into perspective for me... it stems from a distrust of humankind, almost to the point of misanthropy. It's not just an appearance or sexuality thing, it's choosing nature over other people. Don't quote me on this, I'm no researcher or anything, but I'm getting this impression more and more.

By the way OP, great question!

I would not do it, because I've never felt inadequate with myself - intellegence or strength. Sure I'm not a great big guy but who needs that, really? What use would it be for me to be super strong in my daily life? I'm not going to join some sideshow.

This is really just splicing from BioShock, and we've seen how that works out for you. I'll be the one in the big suit drilling you in the face...

No brainer for me. Full on yes, so long as I picked what traits I gained be it physical (enhanced strength or speed, etc), mental (faster thinking, greater intelligence, etc) or superficial (what would be visable to everyone else).

Combining some of the best traits of one or more species with the human form (bipedal, upright walking, etc) would be very useful.

Personally, I'd go with greater agility, strength and metabolism, better perceptive senses (smell, sight and hearing) and feline superficial traits... preferably of a black panther and other sleek large felines.

However, the serum does this by combining animal traits with human traits producing animal-human hybrids, the aforemention furry part. Using the serum turns you into a furry (assuming there are multiple types of serums for people who want a specific hybrid, one for a fox-human, wolf-human, etc...)

Obviously the person who uses it is going to face a lot of social problems, discrimination prominently. Honestly, I'd do it. Discrimination be damned I'd probably be smarter than all my co-workers, score one promotion for me.
Nitpick; furries are the fans, the characters themselves are anthropomorphic animals, or I guess 'anthros' for short. Strictly speaking it should be starting with an animal base and adding human features/charactaristics rather than the other way around, but that's a detail that is often forgotten and is probably excessively pedantic anyway.

That said, I wouldn't have a problem. Not sure if I'd use it or not, but I would think no less of people who did use it. Well, unless they did it for some really asinine reason, but that's a problem with their reasoning and/or morality, not what they would have turned themselves into.

The question isn't directed towards furries... for furries the answer would be simple, as the unfortunate side effects would actually be a plus for you guys. Don't worry, there are plenty of threads on the Escapist covering what you're talking about. The Escapist has a fascination with them, half-and-half accepting and abhorred.

Something else I just thought of... I was saying to my sister while we played TimeSplitters: Future Perfect that I would totally do what the main antagonist does... that is, become incredibly misshapen and inhuman in order to enhance myself and live forever. What's weird is that this question asks something similar and suddenly I'm all apprehensive as soon as somebody says the word, "yiff".

Oh boy, now there's a dilemma, parents will refuse to give their children the cure...

It is an interesting concept, if it happened, I wouldn't mind the furries, I just wouldn't take it. They cant force me to take it! right? RIGHT?!
