I'm pretty sure that episode was designed to depress/touch, yes. XD They did the same thing to varying effectiveness a lot on the simpsons. there are more ways to entertain than simply making the audience laugh, and all that.

though when it comes to futurama I always feel like the odd man out. Sure, Jurassic bark was sad, but to me the most touching/sad episode was "luck of the fryish" the dog episode had me feeling pretty blue for a little while afterward, the brother episode had me on the verge of tears. Maybe it's all about context.

Go watch any other episode of Futurama :)

Also, is Futurama available on Swedish Netflix? I wasn't aware... o_O

That episode makes me cry every time. That and the one where he's investigating his brothers life after he disappeared.

I go read Schlock Mercenary [http://www.schlockmercenary.com] or TV Tropes [http://www.tvtropes.org] really. Both manage to make me chuckle.
NOT TVTROPES! We'll never see the poor bugger again...

Was that season 4 of Futurama? That whole season was just one depressing episode after another. Simpsons is fun, futurama since then felt like Debbie Downer all the time.

Now, I just watched it and I feel extremely depressed. Not sure if this was the intention they were going for.
It's supposed to fill you with a "D'aaaawwwww"/sad hybrid of an emotion. You spend the episode watching how faithful and loyal Fry's dog was, how fantastic of a companion he was and how the two were truly meant to be best friends. Then Fry explains that he doesn't want to bring his dog back because his dog must have lived a rich, full life, assuming that his dog eventually moved on and lived happily without Fry.

Then you're shown the reality of the situation: Seymour always remained faithful and loyal till the day he laid down and died. It's heartwarming to see such unrelenting love and faithfulness from a pet, but at the same time incredibly sad because the friend/master he was waiting for never came back.

Hehe, just thinking about that episode made me tear up a bit. :3

As for things to do to cheer yourself up, I dunno, what do you usually do to cheer yourself up? If you're looking for more good Futurama episodes, I'd stick to the first few seasons (before they got cancelled and eventually brought back). The "newer" ones are pretty hit-and-miss in terms of quality.

I'd suggest the Slurm factory one for a good laugh. Also the one where Fry gets committed to a robot insane asylum is pretty funny too.

ah yes, fry's dog. so many feels. i don't see how that could've been anything other than intentional. every comedy show tries to throw in a serious episode every now and then, sometimes with a depressing message. i remember fresh prince had a few episodes like that.

The dog episode didn't actually get to me. It was sad but there was one episode of Futurama that had be bawling like a little girl with her hand stuck in a car door.

The episode with the 5 leaf clover (Luck of the Fryish). The ending just... yeah, I'm gonna go eat some ice cream and cry in a corner now.

Just listen to some peppy music:

Or watch a guy ride a camel for the first time. Honestly, how can you not love this?
